I think a slower burn project Ruck would be a worthwhile get late in the Draft or Rookie. If TDK goes down we have Dodson and Keeler. Dodson looks like a jet but will need some time to develop his tank and his game.

We're losing Marshall, Heath, Boyd and gaining TDK only- looks a little shallow.

Maddden and Knobel are both solid ruck options stuck down the order at other clubs. I’d rather pick one of them.

How many draft picks do we have to use? Is there a rule? Can we opt out or just match for Fincher then call it a night?

We only have 2 picks as we speak. How many do we actually have to use on the day?
I'm probably wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's not about draft picks, but that you need to turn over your list with a minimum of 3 players?

So we could feasibly just take Fincher.

Minimum 3 draft picks in the national draft

technically we could use 2 of them to upgrade Hall and Caminiti to the senior list, right? Caminiti has to be upgraded as he's done his time on the rookie list, but I imagine we will leave Hall there for as long as we are allowed

whether the Fincher bid comes before or after pick 36 is critical as well. if he makes it through we might as well have picks 200 and 201 to match the bid on him and upgrade Caminiti, and only need one half decent pick for drafting

seems like the ideal scenario would be to have:
  • one decent pick which we will use to draft a player with (could be anywhere, depending on who we have in mind - eg could be late if it's Voss)
  • an insurance pick for a Fincher bid (40-45 which will come into the ~36 range)
  • the junkiest junk pick in the world to upgrade Caminiti

and then if Fincher isn't bid on before 36, we can live trade the insurance pick for a F2/F3 + a very late pick

the above is why I think 19+40 for Marshall+50 would provide a decent enough shape for our draft hand. or F1+40 and then our other pick whatever we can muster for Steele/Heath/Butler etc (or pray Fincher makes it through and draft someone else with pick 40)

Yep you are correct - we can promote Hammer pre-draft and it will count.

So Caminiti + Fincher + late pick

I'm not sure about Hall - I've assumed we'd just keep him as a rookie since he hasn't hit the maximum years?

If Hall got a contract extension on more cash than a rookie contract does that automatically mean he has to come off the Rookie list or is the wage irrelevant?

I believe its irrelevant. You can pay a rookie less, but i'm pretty sure that nothing stops you paying them more.

it would be criminal to not give whatshisface a late pick to land us the next warner

Regarding that, it could explain us getting a couple of random late picks in future drafts. Late in this draft (2025), teams will have random picks that they've accumulated for academies and the like that they will not use. They will trade them off for late future picks, so they don't go to waste. I'd say that we will almost certainly trade back in late. We've done it a bunch lately, got us Garcia, Dodson (I think), and Said

Poor old Dalrymple’s gonna have a boring draft period, considering it looks like we’ll be getting Fincher.
Hope he’s already studying up on next year’s kids.
🤣

at least we'll have a few picks in the rookie draft. given how much time he has on his hands, I'm expecting nothing less than the equivalent of Wilkie, Sinclair and Marshall

(or Tex Wanganeen, Todd Goldstein and Campigli)

Kye has a lot of back half Max Hall about him. Got that same head up, twerky style of looking around with ball in hand as well
along similar lines, one thing that stands out to me is that he seems to be one of the few players in the draft who actually has a look around with ball in hand and assesses his options. not Murphy Reid levels but there is a small hint of class & composure there

not naming names but there are quite a few highly touted prospects who for mine always seem to be boosting their DE% by taking the first easy option, regardless of whether it is a constructive one

Hugo, Box and Said. Dodzilla was an OG pick

Now that our draft hand has been decimated I'm wondering if we might end up using the Roma pick to pounce on someone. The Mini The Pou dream lives until it doesn't..

Would be best to take the Cats 2027 1st. At that point we should be close to the top , while the cats should be lower half ( even though i've been predicting their decline for a decade ).

Dont they have a rule that if you don't want to do that, if you are Geelong they will let you off.?
