Wonder what it is. Appears to be across clubs too. It’s not just injury because plenty of the purported top 10 have been knocked around. He doesn’t give me great hard contested vibes, but looks to be plenty to like.
Because he was terrible in the couple of Champs games he played - perhaps a product of a bad Metro team in general

Pretty much no exposed top-level form and serious injury

Clubs would be drafting on pure talent with Ludowyke IMO

According to Simon Dalrymple it's highly unlikely we'll use next year's draft capital to get back into this year...rates the draft as very weak

What bad news for: Carlton and Essendon.

Obviously most clubs agree with him, but other clubs are putting a lot of weight on their early picks.

There is no doubt the Vic kids quality are well down on previous years, but the SA and Allies have talent that stands out. It will be interesting to see who gets it right and how this years group looks in a few years.

Personally I still hope the club use a future 2026 or 2027 pick to get back into the 2nd round, but am expecting us to just take Fincher and upgrade some rookies. Its looking like the rookie draft is where we will be doing most of our draft action this year.

I'm curious whether we will upgrade Hall, even though we technically don't need to. Spots might be tight again next year and perhaps it's better having him on the senior list rather than giving a 2-year commitment to a late pick who might have fallen through to the rookie draft anyway

30. KYE FINCHER

Position:
Midfielder/Medium Defender

Size: 184cm

Clubs: Sandringham Dragons/East Brighton Vampires

AFL player comparison: [PLAYERCARD]Sam Docherty[/PLAYERCARD]

Not only is Fincher a great size, he also has the appealing combination of strength and speed, as well as good kicking and marking ability, to break games open. Fincher had a strong season for the Sandringham Dragons, amassing at least 18 disposals in all nine of his Coates Talent League matches. He was also one Vic Metro’s strongest performers at the national champs, averaging 20.5 disposals and 5.5 rebound 50s playing off half-back. But it was Fincher’s VFL debut for the Sandringham Zebras where he had 26 disposals, six tackles, five marks and four clearances against Essendon that genuinely he proved he has AFL traits. As he was born in Hong Kong, Fincher is tied to St Kilda via its NGA program, with a late first-round bid an outside chance. As it stands, the Saints only have Pick 50 after a busy trade period … so if they want him, they might have to get creative.

Excuse my ignorance, but if a team was to bid on Fincher as above at pick 30, and we want him, what would we have to give to get him?

It will be interesting to see how clubs and players adapt to the new rules - particularly ruckman. Given that umpires will no longer wait for ruckman to get to contests, teams are going to have to be flexible with their rucking situations. They might need to have a nominated ruckman in each zone, either way it will shake things up and add heaps to the tactical aspects of the game.

Given his athletic strengths, targetting TDK has become an even smarter option. Hopefully Marshall finds his feet as the 2nd ruck tall forward and choses to remain if Geelong come knocking again.

I think ruckman who can cover the ground like Marshall & TDK will become gold with the rule changes. It will definitely change the ruckman clubs look at during the draft/s - with athletic jumping players becoming a priority.

I’m meaning Ludo more specifically, but good to hear that Mike re: Dalrymple. Ordinarily I’d be super jealous hearing about who is taking who in the first round, but tbh most of the top 10 doesn’t hold much appeal.

Such a ridiculous concept. That if a kid happens to be born in Hong Kong he should be tied to a particular AFL club.
Utter nonsense.

Wow going by those rankings there'll be plenty of talent left for us around our first open pick which should be around 55 after bids

Rory Wright
Liam Hetherton
Max Kondogiannis
Hunter Holmes
Cody Curtin
Jack Dalton
Jackson Voss
Finn Davis
Noah Roberts-Thomson

I think we hold off upgrading Hall this year...

I think if we take two lives picks at the draft Hall, will need to remain on the rookie list? If not we can upgrade both Caminiti and Hall then fill the rookie draft with the required numbers. I would love to grab Hetherton, Davis or Wright in the rookie draft, but otherwise we will look at some more mature players eg Campigli, Voss and Byrnes could get relisted.

I’m not sure we take 2 at the national draft tbh. There isn’t a single guy on our list that I would ditch in favour of one from that list, and getting drafted in the national draft means a guaranteed 2 year contract, meaning 1 less list spot at the end of next year. I would be surprised if the draft actually goes for 55 selections this year, clubs actively want out of it.
I would be taking Fincher in the national draft and then 2 in the rookie, leaving 1 open for train ons or Mid season draft.

I think it'd be a similar group of options in the rookie draft given our national pick would be one of the last of the draft

But I do believe Byrnes will get delisted

Keep an eye on that Carlton pick (9)

They want to move it for a future first according to Twomey.

Say we finish 5th next year that would make our 2026 around pick #16.

I wonder if we like anyone that high Dyson Sharp, Sam Cummings or Aidan Schubert will make it interesting?

If we were to look at a later pick in the draft a versatile tall kid - Taj Murray. He is now 201cm's can play ruck, key defence and key forward.
