Wait a second. You now have a fixation on Matteaus been a disappointment? Everyone who understands football can see the extreme talent he has. Injuries have hampered him to the maximum. He will be an out and out superstar.
But the funniest thing is you mention we embrace mediocrity but had a weird obsession with players like Weller, Dunstan and Jones didn't you? If my memory serves me correctly? 3 of the worst and players to ever wear our Jumper. You like to make divisive opinions to try to look intellectually superior. It's very weird!

And by the way your memory is shit. I was never a cheerleader for any of those players, just hated the vitriol they copped by posters pretending their opinion was fact.
All three were disappointments but unlike some I dont just shitcan our players like my opinion is the be all and end all.

Rookie Derksen & can play him back, pick Hetherton in the draft.
Wouldnt hurt to have another developing key forward.
I think if we want game time for Tauru/Barrat/O'Connell behind Wilkie/Silvagni, I don't think we have a need for an interceptor like Derksen. If we want versatility then we already have that in Caminiti/Sharman/Keeler

I think there are bigger list needs atm. We lost Webster, McLennan, and Arie so I think we'll target a medium defender like Avery Thomas who can attack and defend a small forward if there isn't a slider like Hetherton

Havent we shown interest in Finn Davis, he would fit that need.

Does seem a good player Avery Thomas.
Thing is, I've been informed that he is more of an attacker than defender.
Is why he was moved into the midfield later in the season & it seemed to suit his attributes better.

Looking squarely at you, Sydney Swans.
Bidney could be a proper threat - they have 31 and 32 (or wherever the hell they land after earlier bids) which is about the right range. They also have 42 if Fincher slides. Bidmond could prove a nuisance with their 38(ish) pick. Bidlong and their dithering list manager could also have a crack at 40.

As the maths stands:
Sydney bid at 31 (429 points), discount is 10% so cost is 386.1
Sydney bid at 32 (405), cost is 364.5
Richmond bid at 38 (277), cost is 249.3
Geelong bid at 40 (238), cost is 214.2
Sydney bid at 42 (202), cost is 181.8

We have pick 50 which as it stands has a value of 71. Fair to assume that after the carnage of Carlton, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney and Essendon matches it'll move up 5-10 places.

50 becomes 45, we now have 150 points
50 becomes 40, we now have 238 points

So basically we need him to fall into the 35+ range where we can match and take on a minor deficit or trade a future 3rd for the remaining points.

Edit: Realised Sydney's 31 and 32 will likely be consumed by bid matches, idea still stands.

Zero Hanger with pick 50 for us, choose Louis Emmett- 200cm Ruckman, Oakleigh Chargers
Others are Hugo Mikunda & Avery Thomas around that range.

Jacob Farrow seems to be on most clubs wish list.

If the bid comes after pick 36 you can just match with your next pick (no points required). Possible that we trade out our first pick if this happens

But I can see the Cats' pick 40 sliding up to ~35ish and a bid coming out of pettiness after we didn't accept it in a deal for Marshall

Thanks, I knew there was a rule along those lines but in all the media about the new system and points values, there's precious little information published on matching later bids

yeah I had to look around for a long time to try and find where I read it. I assume everything in this article is correct...

also worth noting for picks 19-36 the discount is a fixed 84 points, which would effectively be a 26% discount on pick 36 (317 points). still a big difference between Fincher being bid on there, and pick 37

Interesting that Cal doesn't mention any other interested clubs with Minipou except us even tho he does for pretty much every other prospect in the list

What would it cost to trade into the 20-25 part of this draft? 2026 2nd would have done it but we don’t have one. 2027 2nd not worth enough considering Tasmania’s entry?

2027 1st I think with something coming back
I would be open to moving our 2027 1st considering after the Tasmania concessions it will probs be a late 20s or even 30s pick.
We have loaded up on 2027 late picks, wonder if the thinking is that with port to match bids for Zemes Pilot, Salopek etc. we can bundle them up for ports 1st or 2nd

But none strong enough to actually be named as an interested party

I would take it more that Jevan is not strongly on a lot of Clubs shopping lists, but that he is on their lists.

Perhaps the Saints are more interested on the basis that we might believe he may slide more than somewhat.

Even Twomey who has him at 18, then in his writing indicates he will go somewhere past 20. Other clubs would take him though once he gets to a pick they are happy to use on him. So it will remain to be seen how much he actually slides. Will he slide enough for us to trade in?

My ITK only relates to one Top5 Draft Pick and I know the Saints only made a token effort in interviewing him (ie was not interviewed by any of our key staff) as they would know he is out of our reach, but went through the motions just in case.
