only 2 rookie spots left - one for Said and one for Tex (SSP)

Hall, LOC, Armstrong, McDonald have the others

pains me to see guys like Greeves, Wright, Rodriguez, Hetherton, NHH, Oudshorn-Bennier, Onley etc sitting there undrafted. and to have no room for them because we have given charity years to Dow & Byrnes, and brought in Tex as a stable pony. what odds they don't play a senior game between them next year?

the Irish experiment is in full swing too - although I have to wonder who has a better chance at a decent career - the Vic Metro MVP who has been AA at every underage level, or someone who has never kicked a Sherrin? let's just hope it's the latter...
Greeves is not a shock that he slipped to the rookie draft, proves he has big issues with being an Afl player

I for one am glad they kept Ronnie. I am old fashioned. A bit of loyalty. We know what we’ll get. Mostly in the Ressies, but can plug him in and he’ll do a job. Ross clearly rates his running ability.
Agree - suspect in a stronger team like we should be in 2026 it will be easier for him to get a kick

I'm a bit surprised that we are only taking Said in the rookie draft unless that info was incorrect, do we have 2 more spots?

NHH would be my choice if we had a spot, but I really wanted to see Voss on our rookie list as well. And Tex? Are we leaving spots open for Tex later on?
Yeah I'm confused too. I have 8 players out, 7 players in without counting either Byrnes or Said (as they're both outs and ins)

So shouldn't we have 1 spot left after we re-list Said?

We will look at a few train on players, one being Tex Wanganeen then put one of them on the list later.
Although l do think we will list Tex to keep Nas happy.

Is this Ryan Byrnes fella any good?

Not expecting an A-grader out of Banfield but he fits the mould of the modern prototype winger

We finally have a Mason Wood replacement - no need to throw up guys like Sharman anymore 😅

Passing on Greeves is fine; he’s terrible defensively, slow, and would come close to matching Jevan in ‘arrogance’. One-dimensional contested bulls are not desirable these days

NHH recorded close to a 7 minute 2km time trial too so not too concerned about him

I would’ve loved Hetherton or Oudshoorn-Bennie though - still a chance for SSP I guess

Think we will pick Tex Wanganeen in the SSP, gotta do everything to keep Nas at the club.

No chance he plays in the ones except for a heap of injuries and that's not being nasty just plain facts

I don’t normally lurk on other club boards but I wandered over to the West Coast board.

Boy. Are they unhappy about the Banfield thing. In fact some are experiencing genuine grief.

Some are salty at St Kilda, but the majority are smart enough to realise that West Coast erred by not opening an additional Primary list spot instead of having additional rookie spots.

Some also made the point that West Coast made other teams pay up by bidding in the early part of the draft. It’s the nature of the draft.

If Saints didn’t bid of Banfield then another club would have.

He was too talented a prospect to remain undrafted.

Picking Tex to keep Nas happy is going to come back and bite them if they do it , what if Nas up and goes home after his two years ?
You cant let the tail wag the Dog,

It's an interesting read. I've also just learned WCE traded away our F2 we gave for Liam Ryan to Hawthorn to move 1 spot up the order...

Jamie Cripps seems to be in the gun for taking up a list spot, square up for screwing us over with that trade years ago

Isn’t Tex coming off a long-term injury? That plus the fact that he was never even that good makes me think we can’t lock him in yet. Needs to earn it
Yeah I actually dont want him.
Essendon fc. kept him on their list for a good while.
Reckon he's just not up to Afl standard.
Blamires or Hetherton or Voss would be my preferences now.

Interesting outcome. Feeling mixed feelings towards the picks.

Positive: Happy to get Fincher, and get him cheap. Performed very well at VFL level and has very useful traits. Quick, versatile, wins the footy and has a bit of mongrel. Seems to go for distance rather than precision when kicking on the run but disposal seems fine when he has more time. Good hands in tight as well.

Neutral: Banfield seems to be the style of big, slow inside mid that Lyon has said that the game is moving on from...but he can win the footy, take a grab and kick a goal. Clearly has a tank as well. Here's hoping he's a late developer due to being such a big unit at a young age. Don't mind backing Dalrymple here since this zone of the draft is his specialty. Just a bit surprising that we didn't go for Ludowyke here.

Negative: I just don't understand why we've chosen to use a list spot on Byrnes again. He has already had 6 years on the list and has shown that he isn't good enough. People harp on about him providing depth, but we don't need a small wingman who can't kick as depth. We have so many better options to play that role in front of him. I would have much preferred to take a crack at a slider and I think we screwed up by committing to Byrnes pre-draft.
