I'm going in to bat for Spargo. He is one of our best ball users. Unlucky for him he has been perennially injured lately. If fit I wouldn't mind seeing him rotate through the midfield delivering it into the 50. Kozzie is great in the midfield but I feel like Goody used him too much there this year. Run Spargo through there more as an outside type delivering it to forwards that lead (yes we will have to teach them that skill).

I love Jake Lever. Been such a good player and leader. But fair chance his body is just about done. And appears to have no ability to play off an injury in pre season or in season. From a leadership perspective you’d keep him. But from a playing/list perspective it makes sense. We need to regenerate somewhat.
Duursma? Am I the only one who thinks he could be a bust? Hasn’t had great opportunity but hasn’t impacted too much when given the opportunity at AFL or VFL. But was recently a high pick so I’d back us in if we did the trade. Otherwise it’s pick 20 or 21 which will be closer to 30.

Wasn’t Spargs part of the Joel smith , Oliver crew?

That said he got injured again today in the VFL so will probably miss half a pre season again. Bloke needs to spend some time in the gym.

I havent watched a tonne of him with Norf but I do know we were keen on him his draft year and he played some very good games for Casey as an underage. Just might be a case of his body needing to fill out a bit more to make an impact at AFL level.

yeah I don't mind spargo as much as others. He was one of our best when we last played finals. Well at least in the Carlton game in 2023. And sure, he can't kick far, but for a team that kicks behinds for fun, who cares if a guy can't kick far. it's a either a behind from 50m or a behind from 30m. But Spargo is not too bad around goals. Needs to just get fit. There's no excuse at this point of his career to not be more ripped and fit. Injuries don't stop you from getting strong and ripped. Or even fit for that matter.

No good being a good user of the footy when he only get 2-4 kicks a game..

Why would we play slow Spargo in the midfield when we have options like Langford, Rivers & Windsor miles ahead of him?

Bloke was taken a year before Sparrow at almost the exact same pick but people are wanting Sparrow delisted while Spargo gets a "he'll come good" get out of jail card. Similar games played too before anyone wants to roll out the injury excuse.

Spargo is a playmaker, Still. We don't have many.
When fit, he uses the ball well.

Spargo over his career averages 0.5 score involvements per game more than Sparrow. Has 6.7 kicks per game. Doesn't have enough impact on games. We can't slam Sparrow for not impacting but then make excuses for Spargo.

Pass for me - hallmarks of a bust.

Get him as steak-knives but we need a top-30 pick

I think both have been given roles that don't suit them by Goody.

I don't really care that much if either leave, but I feel with the right coach and role Spargo could be good.

I think there is still a better chance he turns into something good than a pick in the 18-30 range, particularly this year.

Reckon our strike rate is decent in that range!

Just don't think Duurs alone is a good deal, he might come good - just as likely to go bad.

Clayton Oliver has revealed he wants to remain at Melbourne next season, insisting he would like to repay the club and his teammates including skipper Max Gawn for helping him “sort my shit out”
But while Oliver is uncertain about what that might mean for him heading into next month’s trade period, he indicated his preference was to stick with Melbourne, where he still has five years remaining on a deal worth more than $1.2m per season.

And he paid tribute to sacked coach Simon Goodwin, stressing that he owes his AFL career to his former mentor, as he vowed to do everything he can to return to his peak performance after a personally challenging past three seasons.

“I would love to stay at Melbourne, but whatever happens happens,” Oliver told this masthead at the Moonee Valley Racing Club’s Spring Launch. “I’m in a good place now.

“I’m loyal … I love the club, they’ve done everything for me.

“I love my teammates and I love the fans who’ve always been good to me. I want to stay, so fingers crossed.”
Asked about the potential of Nathan Buckley taking over as the club’s new coach, Oliver said: “I don’t really care who gets the job …”

“The culture of the Dees has copped a bit of a hiding (in the media), but we’re not that bad.
