Just had a quick look at the 2024 and 2025 combine results, and if anything the 2025 guys have better numbers. Obviously pure athleticism isn't everything, but if they're just as good athletically how exactly is it being determined that the 2025 class is poor? i.e. have they not performed as well against VFL players?
I reckon you could grab a bunch of elite juniors from athletics and gymnastics from the Australian Institute of Sport who can absolutely blitz the scores you see at the draft combine. They’d be rubbish footy players though.

6, 7 and 17 for Trac and 24?
I don't see us getting much more
Gold Coast need to split pick 6 or 7 and use their other picks for draft points as they have 2 guys in the top 5 this year

The point is talent tends to be pretty obvious when you apply the eye test. Skills, composure under pressure, footy smarts etc. It's not that hard to see it.

How do you judge composure under pressure when the bloke pressuring them may be trash vs be good?

Skills I get but there are some elements that you wouldn’t capture or get the full picture on

I’m no expert, but applying pressure requires no real skill. It’s an attitude and fitness thing and most of the elite u/18s would have that in any given year. So my guess would be there is a pretty consistent level of pressure being applied every year at junior levels.

So that would mean you still get a good read for who performs well under pressure and who doesn’t irrespective of the skill levels of those applying pressure.

Pickering and Luke talking about how a high quality player will need to be shaken loose for Merrett and Curnow, but not for Petracca lol

I remember Jason Taylor said they loved Xavier Lindsay because he was arguably BOG in one of the best u18s games they'd seen, or something to that effect, so they definitely judge the overall skill/quality of the game (which is obvious).

I think it was Vic Country v Vic Metro last year.

Ok Pickering just said that Petracca is 3-4 years older than Curnow, so I just won't worry about his opinion lol.

There's 13 months between them

We can give them points -27,41,55, F2 Trade in / Mcvee compo

They also gets picks from Budarick, Rogers, Ainsworth, Davies, Rosas ect leaving
We are giving them Petracca.

Why are we giving them points to dilute the compensation they are giving us for Petracca?

Being very picky now, Liam Pickering probably just meant there is 3 years difference between them in dog years.

It actually does though, I'd be happy to do like Trac + 23 + 2026 F2 for Humphrey + Suns 2026 F2.
Na **** that, I wouldnt give up extra picks for Humphrey, they owe us picks.

Pressure is more about workrate than talent but sure, you'll never get the full picture, which is why some guys who look great pre-draft don't make it in the big league. That being said we're talking about the broader picture of the draft quality which by all reports is weaker than other years.

Generally recruiters have.a pretty good eye for the strength of a draft.

Probably no surprise we are doing McVee first, so we have picks to throw back.
So instead of getting something back in return for McVee, we pass it on to the Gold Coast so they can draft higher rated prospects than the ones we will be getting in return for Petracca?

Not sure what your point is. They're not going to sacrifice their academy picks to get Petracca.

I know that. The system is F’d. It’s going to prevent us getting a proper return for Petracca.

If a team normally wants to bring in an experienced star they give up draft picks and don’t draft players in the 1st round.

Suns though, want Petracca, want 2 top 5 picks, don’t want give away quality players.
