It's all about the Moe factor.

Maybe he and we improve this year and I change my mind, but I don't like the idea of trading multiple firsts for Humphrey right now as a rebuilding team.

Not loving the noise around Melbourne chasing Humphrey. The whole narrative that we’ve supposedly brought in his junior coach and drafted his best mate to make ourselves more “appealing” is a bit unsettling. If that’s what it takes just to get him interested, I’m not sure he’s the type of player we should be bending over backwards for.

It already feels like he comes with a high-maintenance warning label, and he hasn’t even walked through the door. After everything we’ve dealt with through the Trac and Oliver saga, I’m not convinced this club needs another personality that requires constant management or special treatment.

Good player, sure. But might be better off at looking at other options.

I wouldn't go that far.

I just think we'd be better off trying to fill out the list as much as possible as a rebuilder. Throwing multiple early picks at a promising player who isn't an All Australian or anything while sitting outside the 8 doesn't seems the best strategy.

Could understand it for this draft with it being weak but even then I still think we've done very well with Taylor and hopefully Pickett and have another first next year to go with it. That's what it would have cost us.

There's zero chance we have made any move just to try and lure Humphrey. It adds an element of intrigue for next offseason but I have no doubt we'll go hard at him again. imo he's a jet. Would absolutely love him on our list. Clearly a limit to what we'd offer, but no reason our 1st attached to GC and maybe a future 1st would get it done if he was to nominate us.

Or its just the footy media trying to manufacture stuff again.
Bit of both I’d say. But there seems no doubt about our interest. sKing and nJones didn’t drag him around the dandenongs to look at butterflies

Lot will depend next year on where we finish - if we are bottom 4 I'd be wary of trading for Humphrey. I'm also pretty sure we can't trade the Suns F1 back to them so we'd have to get creative there.

They'd want our future first

(Have been meaning to chop it down, just let me have the gag for a minute)

Better got keeping our draft picks and getting free agents. Or encouraging our own free agents to leave cough cough “Tom Sparrow

Yawn. Never seen so much criticism for a guy that was taken at pick 27. You need defensive minded players in the team. One of the first chosen every week and will continue to be. The same people that didn't rate ANB for years only to eat humble pie. A top 10 player in our best 23, playing the hardest position on the ground. A small, high half forward.

Mich0 levels of making up a narrative and then getting enraged by said narrative.

A forward who doesn’t kick goals and a mid that doesn’t impact the game.
He sure does make playing that position look hard.

Missed a golden chance to highlight Sparrow's "defensive minded" game against Merrett last year when he kept him to 37 touches.

Holmes didn't really rate his tagging either

Whilst I agree, and have argued here many times, that the criticism and attention he gets is way over the top for his spot in the pecking order from a draft and financial investment standpoint, I don't think you're helping your case by seemingly using the first half of your post to say 'hey he was a later pick, lower the expectations' and then the second half saying 'he's a top 10 player and deserves more credit'. Bit contradictory I think Dan.

He's clearly rated internally as a leader, but he's not half the player ANB was/is and we are improving as a team if he starts to get pushed out of the lineup.
