Scythe be real sweet if we could just ban this campaigner
If I could just ban everybody whose opinions I disagree with, this board would get pretty quiet quickly.

Now that you mention it, though

From 36:10

Salem 257th rated player in the comp and outside top 300 in the last six weeks. He takes the 11th easiest kicks in the competition.

Rivers has been a top 100 player almost every year of his career. So tick there. But this year he is the 5th worst ball user in the competition.

Also brief commentary on Windsor being similar to Max Holmes, but no real stats on Windsor except that he’s never attended a centre bounce in his career. He did attend centre bounces in the VFL last week.

Salem was good for us when we were taking meterage without turning over the footy. Get the ball forward, and another stoppage.
Salem is really strong thru the core. Good in contest situations. But his thing is playing safe footy.
Same with Lever.

Both are just safe playing types, who probably crap themselves if they have to take a chance on something.

We have to move on from that play, and add our offensive running into the mix. This is where they both, imv, struggle with putting speed on the ball.

Saying what we all know about Salem. He isn't damaging and hasn't ever been. Takes a bunch of safe, dinky kicks. He also isn't much chop as an actual defender so...what does he offer? SFA really, aside from an occasional OK/decent game. One of the most overrated players we've had on the list in recent memory.
I think the only spot, for us looking forward, is replacing someone in the midfield rotations. In under.

Should be played as a backman the rest of the year. First in the VFL, then seniors if he deserves it. Will either turn him into a backman and turnaround his trajectory from this year or it will help his forward craft by seeing things differently.

Also gives us the possibility of playing Disco forward again given he's currently our best at either end. Could potentially then look at JVR, Lever and Petty back, Disco and Jefferson forward next year.

Just gotta try stuff now. If we're conservative the rest of the year it's a total waste.
interestingly I see JvR as the closest we have to Maysie, in terms of his physical self. Strong and robust, can stand his ground in the ruck, (and does well) so should be OK with tall forwards.

We have torched him as a forward with our past game-style.

Poor kid doesn't look like he knows how to lead up, and imv, he is too small in height to mark in static pack situations. He sure isn't Riley Thilthorpe.
Better out wide around the flanks and wings, searching for the footy. Similar to how TMc used to win in those areas.

Love Disco back, but the problem is he's our best KPP at both ends. Need two of him. I think he'll settle back and stay there, but if the option was there that our tall backs were good enough without him then I'd be swinging him forward to balance out the output.
IF we had Silvagni on our list, the 3rd tall position either back or forward, would be much easier. The two of them are interchangeable.

Not sold on Jeffo as well, but I would play him rest of the year now and just tell him to keep on leading. We need to do something drastic up forward, and to me, leading is a massive part of the whole issue.
:thumbsu:

Melksham leads and all of a sudden gets 11 shots on goal, 6 marks inside 50. Not a coincidence. So tell our forwards - You lead all day and you play AFL - Then pick whoever does it. Nothing will change up forward if they don't change that mentality.
Melk is the most aggressive of all our forwards. He will contest with the smallest or the biggest. No matter, he gives a full-on contest.

IF Fritta had 1/10th the go in him, he would be a star.

Everyone seems to keep talking Viney, and I know I'm probably one out, but he's one I would absolutely keep IF we're looking at Trac and Clarry out. He's played some pretty good footy this year, especially when the one/main pure inside type, I like the idea of a mix of him, Langford and Kozzy at centre bounces.
you and me both LN.
Plus, there's a reason North went after him, you need the uncompromising types to teach, lead and somewhat protect the young mids. This is a bloke who eyeballed senior players after his first game and starting naming names. I love Gawny, but you need that balance there to set the standard IMO.

The rest of that list you definitely have as 'on the table', but we saw what happened when we just went with kids last time so I'd be keeping Viney. Jack Viney without Trac and Clarry in the way is a different player.:thumbsu:

How many players have we been linked to and soon after they re-sign with their current side? lol. I'm not sure if it's just the players taking the pi$$ and using us as leverage, or if they genuinely don't want to come near us, but there's been so many it's actually laughable.
We wait until a player is fully proven, before we get interested.

Look at Darcy Fogarty. When he wasn't in fashion a few years back, he would have been available to us... I wanted us to go after him.

Now its all too late.
We could have got him for for a couple of packets of chips.

It definitely can't help. I can't help but think back to the time Chris Judd came over and checked out our "facilities". He ws never coming to us anyway, but it's been an issue for a long time. Not sure how many good players we would have snagged, but not having a base or world class facilities is definitely against us in recruiting.
He was signed to Carlton waaay before he checked us out. And he had the gall to look thru our books.

Yeah exactly. Was a circus tbh. Could you imagine how embarrassed our recruiting staff were showing him around Junction Oval lol. All the while Judd knew he'd signed a massive deal with Carlton and Visy. Whole thing was laughable. Still can't help but feel that our lack of base and any sort of identity other than being the oldest club hurts us recruiting. I know i give Tim Lamb a hard time, and most of it is deserved IMO, but yeah, our club has never been an easy sell.

lol that’s not me, but he sounds like an absolute champ.

Why would I make a burner account to say the exact same shit I have been saying with this one and will happily bring up again for the next 10 years whenever Windsor has a stinker? (Or Curtin/Caddy or O’Sullivan have a big one). It’s a very valid/fair conversation to have, especially when we are 14th on the ladder and bereft of tall talent.

Fairly certain mods could tell if it was though through account / login / telemetric data.

What’s with you wanting censorship on any opinion that isn’t yours? Australia isn’t the country for censorship.

We are idiots if we don’t take Waverley as a temporary base and absolutely arrogant. Dead set we don’t even have functioning toilets at training. It’s no brainer why no one wants to join us.

Sacking Goodwin and locking in a base are the two priorities right now. Those two things happen, we might win another flag within the next 50 years!

Are you suggesting players aren’t lining up for the chance to slog out to Cranbourne a few times a week, sit through Goody’s monotone lectures on 'brand' and 'method', and then run out in front of an empty MCG at 3:20pm on a Sunday?

Our recruiting strategy relies heavily on the draft, the only mechanism where players are basically indentured servants with no freedom of choice. Once they are through our doors we just cross our fingers and hope Stockholm Syndrome kicks in before their first contract ends.

And Mich0 will be here, every step of the way, highlighting what a dud job our football department did every time someone picked a few spots later has a 20-touch game and kicks a goal.

Draft sets you up, but trading in key players is crucial. We don't win a flag without Oliver, Trac or Gawn as much as we don't win a flag without May, Lever or Brown. But yeah, particularly for the minnow clubs like us, Saints, Dogs etc, the draft is even more important because attracting good players is near on impossible.
