Yeah, Mitchell helps my point as he was there for 12 months already so he had the benefit of getting a full perspective from the inside.

I think it would be hard for someone to make these massive calls in like a month. They could potentially delegate those decisions to the current list management team if they wanted, or the club could tell any prospective coach that there were going to be some hard calls made on certain players when they join. Thing is we've made it pretty clear we are keen to get the new coaches opinion before we do anything.

Collingwood had a solid enough trade period in 2021. Didn't move anyone on and they already had Naicos coming in so did a lot of pick swaps. Picked up Lipinski and Kreuger for cheap though who have both been great recruits for them.

Can't remember the exact timeline with the Crows exodus but there were certainly still a lot of scars being carried from the camp, so it's no surprise those guys wanted out.

Never say never though. The coach might meet some of the players and really eyeball them about whether they want to be there and it might get those guys to finally fess up, which might get some movement going. Equally they might just pitch their vision to those guys and try and get buy-in.
I have a feeling it will be pretty consultative with the list. I'm sure they'll want the new coach to have input, make it their team as quick as they can, but I think the board have a pretty firm view of where the list is at and what they think it needs, it's one of the main reasons Goodwin is gone, so I don't think they'll hire anyone who isn't aligned with that.

SAINT TO BE A DEMON?

MELBOURNE has expressed interest in out-of-contract St Kilda ruckman Max Heath.

The Demons are searching for more ruck coverage behind seven-time All-Australian Max Gawn and have been tracking Heath across 2025.

Heath made his debut for the Saints against Sydney in round 18 and played four of the final six games alongside Rowan Marshall before Alex Dodson was picked in round 23.

The 22-year-old is yet to receive a new contract at the Saints.

Hope we go hard on 2026 picks with this draft going to be compromised as ****. Push for future picks and try land 3 first rounders and 2-3 second rounders in the last draft before Tas come in. 5-6 young guns to finish our rebuild and then look into top ups from 2027 and beyond with our war chest of cap space.

Hawks F1 for Trac
Bulldogs F3 for May
Collingwood's F1 for Fritsch
Norths F2 and F3 for Lever
Crows F4 for Oliver and his salary

Package up the 3rd rounders for a 2nd

2026 picks
1 (ours), 10 (Collingwood), 14 (Hawks), 20 (North), 21 (ours), 25 (packaged 3rds)

1,10,14,20,21,25, Prasad (Late pick)

Take Cochrane pick 1, Malady pick 10

2027 (With Oliver, Trac, May, Lever, Gawn and Fritsch off our books)

Serong (FA) - $1.5m a year
Jackson (FA) - $1.5m a year
Thilthorpe or Cadman - $2m a year (Trade our next 3 firsts)
**** it Weightman is a free agent to, throw him a $900k a year

Timmy Lamb special. Lets go.

How bad must Verrall be? Jackson dream must be dead too. Heath and Derksen strap in!
Fullarton gone, Campbell and Verrall quite possibly gone. It's not a sexy move by any stretch but makes sense I guess. TBH don't mind us going for a moneyball ruck opposed to investing lots into it - Majority of this board has been saying you don't spend much on rucks anyways.

Didn't Campbell just get an 1 year extension ?

Don't remember seeing it, and is still listed as OOC on Footywire.
Not official, but seems to be expected (from a few weeks back): https://www.afl.com.au/news/1382067

JOURNEYMAN ruck Tom Campbell is set to extend his four-club career into a remarkable 15th season in 2026.

The 33-year-old joined Melbourne as an unrestricted free agent last October after being delisted by St Kilda.

The Demons haven't required anyone to step in to cover seven-time All-Australian Max Gawn since then, but know they have a readymade replacement in Campbell. Melbourne is working on a one-year extension for next season. Campbell has starred again in the VFL this year, averaging 27.4 hitouts and 17.5 disposals in 13 appearances for Casey.

Jesus Heath and Derksen. Classic Lamb, more interest in recruiting for Casey than he is the MFC.

Meanwhile St Kilda: TDK, McKenzie, Leek Aleer, Liam Ryan and Flanders

We prob think we will win 2026 flag with contested ball beasts Trac, Oliver and Viney

Getting pissed off in August, new record. 🥰

I've always said that St Kilda is the envy of the competition
