Look I’ve avoided that as I’d personally delist and re rookie (no one will take him anyway). Gives us a spare list spot where we can take a chance on a tall

We drafted him as a defender and he finished up playing forward. He was OK there but nothing to suggest he was going to make it at either end. Worryingly though, he had a better season than Bowman who I think has been extended from his initial contract.
We seem to have got into the habit of prematurely extending draftee's contracts.

Bowman got an extra year after 6 games in the reserves, Dattoli got one whilst rehabbing his back injury and without playing a game.
Under the draft rules they were both tied to us to the end of 2026, now until the end of 2027.

Patrick Snell we took at pick 53 in the (Nov) 2023.
May 2024 we extend his contract until the end of 2027.

Riak Andrew drafted at pick 55 (Nov) 2024, extended to end of 2027 prior to playing even a reserves game.

These guys take up list spots, let's see what they can do before unnecessarily locking them into longer contracts.

With Fox, Paton gone, hopefully Mills moving into the mids a bit after a full pre-season, and Bowman a question mark (though still early), medium defender and forward could do with some consideration. Remains to be seen if Roberts can regain his 2024 form and composure down back, though more an intercept/distribution type.

It was remarked that Hawthorn's small forwards did a lot of damage on the weekend, people talk about Brisbane's smalls etc. But it was a couple of medium forwards about 185cm and Gunston (basically a tall medium) who did it for the Hawks. Rayner and Lohmann (last year) reasonably prolific for the Lions.

I think McNamara (academy) has shown a bit both ends, hopefully can be gotten via the rookie draft, but his last champs game and VFL matches might get some attention.

Dylan Williams is one that has shown a bit in past seasons down back for Port, now delisted, after starting as a forward. Was shifted forward again for his last 5 games in the SANFL, kicked 17 goals including 7 and 6 versus Sturt and Crows, two of the better sides.

I'm sure that everyone who soiled themselves when we didn't delist Francis last week will walk back their words.
I’ve soiled myself today already. Cooked perfect poached eggs with my dinner and dropped one of them. FML

I'm a tiny bit surprised that Leidler's not been offered another year. I thought he'd shown enough. Though shifting him from the role he was recruited to play (small defender) to the wasteland of the small forward role in our VFL side partway through the year did maybe suggest the Swans weren't prioritising his development.

I think we've had a raft of players - especially rookies - pass through our list over the last few seasons who have suffered due to the lack of structure (and dare I say, standards) in our VFL team. Kirk, Leidler, HHK, Magor. Maybe none of them had enough tricks to graduate to a senior team, but I never got the feeling that their roles were clearly defined in the VFL side / and or that they were pushed to eliminate bad habits and develop good ones.

Having the likes of Kinner Beatson at the club for so long as hurt us when he just recruits the same type of player all the time. Our first round drafting has been nothing but poor

Actually it’s not just our first rounds that have been poor, our drafting has been poor for a long time full stop

Kinnear should’ve been moved on a while ago and our new guy hasn’t started well either

If I was a young player entering the draft, the Swans would be one of the last spots I'd want to be going right now.

The VFL program and development team are setting them up to fail with some of the points you mentioned - shifting positions and no clear role, for example.

Players like Snell and Bowman are asked to play well above their heights in defence, then we have a 186cm Matty Lloyd as our key forward. There's just no structure and not enough players to support any form of decent structure. It's just a dysfunctional program and list management setup at the moment, even with a change of coach, etc.

I feel genuinely bad for Leidler, because he looked half-decent, but he was thrown all over the ground. On a one-year deal, there's only so many opportunities you have to impress, and I thought he did enough to earn another year.

Just once, I'd like to strike some gold in the draft

Here you go. KPD.

I have it on reasonably good intelligence that Beatson bases 75% of his work on information obtained from this thread.

Could the top 5 contributors please put pens down till after the draft.

Thank you.

Well he doesn't listen in not reaching lol

Based on regular (non) adherence to what I want him to do, I'd check your sources.

Top contributor is generally happy with our drafting, until years down the track.

Beatson is still in the picture till December right? So he’ll have a say in this draft?

I hope Keane and Cox can work some sort of magic with the first rounder if we decide to keep it

Any wonder we’re doomed, take a look at this motley crew

If so what skinny flanker are we taking. The pick 9 is very interesting actually we have some options, go for the midfield bull OR we hope Schubert slips.

For the record in a mock draft that we are doing at the moment on here with some posters

I have taken Harley Barker (ended up being pick 14), Schubert went a couple before so was off the table, matched King at #23, and I'll be matching Carmichael when it happens. Barker is a risk off the injury but prepared to roll the dice, you don't lose talent.
