Reckon the club see blakey as a backup fwd option hence not being bothered by buller leaving?

Well he certainly can't be left In The Role he Has To Play As A Pure Defender Instead Of his Intercepting running back role. Of Course that has been by necessity but Blakey seems to play his best football and utilizes his optimum ability when he is happy. His dislike of that man on man lockdown is written in his body language when he is beaten one on one or instructed by Defensive Leaders Like Rampe or McCartin which usually leads to him arguing and gesturing more than being locked into the task at hand. If we ever want to see the best Of Blakey Cox has to work that out pretty quickly. Get him where he can give us his best output on a consistent basis.

Sure, but the suggestion was that we aren't that bothered in keeping him because we have Blakey as a forward option.

Leaving aside the differences between the two, we are bothered enough to offer a contract.

Yet McClean Isn't or shouldn't be and McDonald's output through gradual development & significant time off with injury still leaves question marks. Add Amartey's Propensity for Injury to occur and there you have a situation where Buller was at worst a capable insurance policy. Risky Move to let a bloke go who had shown more than enough to fit that bill.

When Amartey was fit this year, we didn't struggle with our forward line.

When Amartey and McDonald were fit last year, we were the number one scoring side in the league (Yes they only kicked 40 odd each, but they create opportunities for others and give us more confidence/ structure when moving the ball).

The beauty of adding Curnow is even if the forward line is too tall on the day then we can just shift McDonald to the wing or Amartey to an intercept role down back. Adds another tactical string to our bow which is always welcome.

Possibly? It's still depending on Geelong and what they offer up.

He hasn't publically declared a club yet. So hopefully he realises that Geelong cannot do the trade for him then we come in.

(Remember to note that his management did directly call some of our players to determine if they would be willing to go to Carlton, so there has to be a strong chance).

Interestingly Andrew Mackie did say there is no point stringing it out if they can't do it.

Do I have maths right on list spots.

We currently have 2 on main list left. If we rookie Lloyd and Rampe that’s 4 spots.

We take rosas and Curnow we only have 2 spots?

I guess if we take Curnow we have to trade someone out, both for TPP and for list spot reasons…

As slow as a turtle in a game now that's all about pressure and keeping the ball in, he's terrible at it. Amartey at east tackles and tries to chase when he's not marking it.

I'd rather replace McLean with a small or medium though that's where Rosas comes into play

Yeah between he and Paps we just can’t suck the ball in. Unfortunately, when Amartey is a bit banged up though he usually lets up on this as well. Not sure how committed Curnow and Rosas are to tackling either. You can see why Cleary and Rowbottom were given posts in the forward line throughout the year.

Thankfully, it’s more of an attitude problem than anything to fix but I suppose it’s more of a question of will they do it next year…

Rosas is a crumbing forward, he's not known for his tackling.

Lloyd might get picked up by a North or maybe West Coast but I am surprised he's not accepted a two year deal from us so far. He was better going up the ground but early in the season his decision making was diabolical.
McLean if he didn't ruck wouldn't get a game in the top side. Pretty sure a poster on here said Buller did play as a chop out ruck in the WAFL so it's annoying that we didn't give him a run there to see how he went. McLean putting on bulk would just make him even slower and he would get run off by any decent defender.
Rampe going again should be as a VFL player who can fill in if required.
Hopefully there is some movement with trades apart from Rosa's.Its a bit underwhelming at the moment.

Ladhams would be a backup for Grundy so where are our talls in the forward line if the first 2 get injured or can’t play? We can’t rely on just small forwards like Papley and Rosas.

Depends what happens behind closed doors. If thats the best we've got to offer and curnow makes it clear hes not coming back to the blues they might reluctantly accept it

Maybe we were worried about Buller back and/or just wanting him to concentrate on his fwd role. Anyway we view him as depth.

I think we're way too high. Other than Grundy, we haven't attracted a star since Franklin.

We don't tend to get the middle tier players much either. It's usually scraps no one wants

We're looking at options in the draft by reports, plus getting King. But if we lose Buller, and there's no AFL listed replacement/upgrade, we should be looking at a mature age KPF or at least a strong medium type at least physically ready for senior footy.
