It should be, but probably won't be.

Our first round pick next year is valuable and Carlton need an extra selection.

It’s not really that valuable I doubt Carlton accept what’s pick let’s say 12 this year (at best) and a non live pick for a two time AA. Look if Carlton sign it off we’d be laughing but Carlton fans would burn the joint down unless it’s significant overs that’s not significant it’s debatable whether it’s even market value

I'd say that's significant overs. There isn't even a third of his career left to play out. And the last qtr of a players career is no where near the peak.

Do I have maths right on list spots.

We currently have 2 on main list left. If we rookie Lloyd and Rampe that’s 4 spots.

We take rosas and Curnow we only have 2 spots?

I guess if we take Curnow we have to trade someone out, both for TPP and for list spot reasons…

The answer to your implied question is, i have no f$^&$/_ idea what we're doing.

There are 3 or 4 draftable academy players. Taking all of them wouldn't solve structural imbalances in the squad. We need to open up spots or hope the academy kids slide to the rookie list

Every trade period we hear the same thing from you.

Remember this after the 2017 trade period?

View attachment 2442966

Port went from 5th at end of the 2017 H&A season to 10th in 2018
Adelaide first to 12th
Ess 7th to11th
Freo stayed 14th

2019 of the 4 'trade winners' only Ess 8th made the finals

2020 Port finished top of the ladder (lost PF)
Adelaide wooden spooners
Ess 13th
Feo 12th

Nice to add better players but the obsession to 'win' the trade period is a pointless exercise.
When the "best" players are just being shuffled about there is no net gain across the comp. That comes from the draft (input) minus retirements (output).
Do Saints honestly believe that TDK will bring significant improvement over Marshall? Madness! Losing NWM on the other hand would bring about a huge loss. Money well spent IMO.
For us bringing in Trac would significantly improve our midfield. Possibly Merrett and a few others too. IMO only Wilkie would make a major difference to our backline as a KPD. There are a few smaller players but none on the move likely to come our way.
A Curnow or JUH fully fit and committed would add a lot but the cost and risk are high.
If we don't get any of these guns what have we lost if they were never actually an opportunity? Nothing.
Getting the best out of our drafting is super important each and every year.

With Barrass and Battle coming into a team that already had Scrimshaw, Sicily and Hardwick, surely he knew he was well back to be a regular in Hawks defence. Can only assume he really did not want to either live in Sydney and / or play for us. Is Sydney really that awful to live in and are we that despised that players prefer to play VFL?
Family, cost of moving, cost of living, fear of the unfamiliar etc etc. You don't have to hate the club or the city to be reluctant to move.

Every time future picks get mentioned, people always assume they are going to be bad.

X team will probably win the flag next year ... that will blow out to 28 etc...

There is actually a chance we don't improve next year. We could actually decline, and our pick could be a top 5 or 6 selection in a stronger draft.

All first round picks are going up in value from 2026 because they will be in such high demand from teams that want to match bids.

Carlton fans think Curnow is worth Gulden and pick 9 ... they are stupid. Just because they live in a fantasy land, doesn't mean we have to.

The rumour doing the rounds is that we've already offered those two picks plus Hayward.
Well we are fools if that’s the case. Hayward to Cries or Port would get us a late first rounder.
So that’s 3 first rounders for a 30 year old with fkd knees at round 1.
Sorry!
I must be missing something.

Yeah that’s why I’m so confused. Makes last years decision to reach to take a HFF with second pick and not a KPP even worse!!!

I get he is under contract but very very few players get traded with 3 first round picks without anything coming back.

If Curnow was 25 i could understand

They are relatively useless for them next year it’s soaking a Jed Walter bid. They would want two live picks (at least) and 9 this year is diluted. We are going to have to improve that hand a lot. Carlton fans would burn the place down if that’s the accepting offer. You always have to ASSUME the worst for future picks and Carlton would assume we’d improve.

They would require us to get in that top 5-6 this year (ie improving pick 9) then they might consider it. How we do that stuffed if I know

I'd say that's significant overs. There isn't even a third of his career left to play out. And the last qtr of a players career is no where near the peak.

Not when neither of those picks are in the top 10, it’s not an offer Carlton will consider.

Add Hayward and it’s closer and I can see that being the meat and potatoes of an offer

If that is the case then fair play. Pies offer was much the same time wise but probably more lucrative remuneration then one would think ? Why he would knock it back to go there if that wasn't the case is puzzling though. Probably assured games with Miochek on the move. They are dead set shot if Elliott leaves.
Their key forward stocks are worse than ours. Any of our key forwards would just about be their best key forward next year – that's how dire it is. Maybe they're offering him more money, but it's probably more that they've assured him a best 23 spot which we wouldn't be able to do, particularly while we're on the hunt for a KPF.

Buller will be a loss for us because he's handy depth, whereas be would be a big gain for Collingwood because he'll be in their best 23.

It's unfortunate, but I don't see how it could be avoided without offering him too much money or too long a contract which potentially just leaves us in the same situation down the track with contracted key forwards that we want to upgrade.

Yer pretty much Pies would value him a lot higher than what we would i mean a 33yr in Cox and 34yr old Mihocek as your focal points both well past their best.

so if we keep pick 9 or whatever it ends up as, what are we thinking..I rekon Dyson Sharp if he's there. Big midfielder, already playing seniors in the SANFL, SA captain etc. COuld be ready to go. Not quick, but neither is Tom Green :)

I can tell you that at least one of our sponsors wants Charlie. For some it’s about the eyeballs / bums on seats. Blockbuster forward gives you that.

if this is actually an issue then we have much bigger issues in the club than i thought.

sponsors job is to sponsor. if it is list management then pack the whole thing up
