Every time future picks get mentioned, people always assume they are going to be bad.

X team will probably win the flag next year ... that will blow out to 28 etc...

There is actually a chance we don't improve next year. We could actually decline, and our pick could be a top 5 or 6 selection in a stronger draft.

All first round picks are going up in value from 2026 because they will be in such high demand from teams that want to match bids.

Carlton fans think Curnow is worth Gulden and pick 9 ... they are stupid. Just because they live in a fantasy land, doesn't mean we have to.
This is how GCS have taken the piss out of the system.

They gambled on PA and Collingwood falling down the ladder

PA did, Collingwood almost did

Did with the Dogs and the Sanders trade a couple of years ago.

Saying this watch what they do with the Flanders trade as reckon they will try and BS an F1 and F2 for him or something and gamble on the Saints/Melbourne failing

Not when neither of those picks are in the top 10, it’s not an offer Carlton will consider.

Add Hayward and it’s closer and I can see that being the meat and potatoes of an offer
What you are failing to understand is Carlton will cave to the best deal they can get. He won’t and can’t go back there. It’s Urban and Kidman
Irreconcilable differences.

I can tell you that at least one of our sponsors wants Charlie. For some it’s about the eyeballs / bums on seats. Blockbuster forward gives you that.
He will definitely put bums on seats in his last couple of years if we can keep him healthy thst is.

Hopefully puts in in a position to be challenging for the 8 also

How much is 9 going to slide tho?

12-14 at best it’s still not in the top 10, we are going to need to trade up. How we do it leave that to the people that know. The people id put up well many on here don’t like it

We all thought the same thing when Papley asked for a trade, if no trade he’s back at Carlton. They aren’t accepting two rubbish picks.

Why do you have to assume the worst with future picks? Who made that rule?

Cody Walker, that's his name not Jed Walter, could easily be pick 1 in the draft. They are going to need picks for next year.

And even if they didn't for some reason, it doesn't alter the value of that selection as they could easily trade it themselves next year. There's another trade period next year as well.

Every club does they will assume we will improve. Next years draft is pretty meh for them it will be match Walker that is it. They want high picks this season. Rightly so too. Will be up to us to find it.

It’s why I can’t see it happening

For this exact reason value can be easily created.

Better clubs know when they are improving or when they are falling back down the ladder.

Poor list managers do a LukeParkerno and think they are always improving and wonder why they gave up Pick 3 last year for the same value as a mid to late first.

Extending the likes of Heeney, Gulden, Mills, Blakey and Chad together, mostly with a minimum of fuss, is no mean feat.

Apart from Dawson when was the last time we lost someone we wanted to keep?

Shame we haven’t been very clever with who we wanted to keep

Allir, Cameron, Nankervis, Hewitt etc

See this is where you are so ignorant to fact and live in your own head. Papley was completely different when seeking a trade. He wanted to go back to Victoria because of family reasons. He was welcomed back with open arms when convinced the club would support his needs to support his family. Curnow has basically said I’ve had a gutful of this joint and want out of the dump and mud sticks. Voss and the club together are his victims in this. They ain’t taking him back and him letting it be known he is not going back is killing any chance that it did have of happening since the day of his exit meeting.Once again ignorant. They are rubbish picks by your way of thinking.

It should be, but probably won't be.

Our first round pick next year is valuable and Carlton need an extra selection.

Agreed. Carlton will definitely need 2 x first round picks next year to have any chance of matching Walker. Sure, they could try to manufacture an extra pick this time next year but by then that extra pick will be a seller's market so I bet that they would want to come out of this trade period with at least 2 x 2026 first rounders.

We have to keep this in mind ourselves.

Maybe not next year, but the year after, we might be the team desperate for first round selections to match bids.

Obviously you can't be panicked into always worrying about the future, because otherwise you would never do anything, but our first round pick next year isn't just a throw away/steak knives.

It's a very valuable selection and adding it to pick 9 is a significant offer for any player, let alone Charlie Curnow.

As far as I can assess, now that we have retained Rampe and added Rosas we have a senior list of 36, if you count Lloyd and Ladhams. That leaves no room for draftees.

However we also need to upgrade Edwards to the senior list. Which means that we have minus one spots available for draftees. If we enlarge the senior list to 38 as we have the right to do, we have one spot available.

So if we want to bring in 2 draftees on the senior list and get, say, Petracca ,we either have to say goodbye to Lloyd and Ladhams or, alternatively, trade out 1 or two mystery players from the senior list.

Unfortunately this means that the Academy kids aren't going to get much of a look in.It also means, if Ladhams goes, that we will need to bring in another ruck. So one of those few draft picks or trades is going to be committed for a backup ruck.

This does not seem to be a very good set of circumstances.

We'll take a couple of players off your hands when you trade for Charlie ;) :D

Possibly? It's still depending on Geelong and what they offer up.

He hasn't publically declared a club yet. So hopefully he realises that Geelong cannot do the trade for him then we come in.

(Remember to note that his management did directly call some of our players to determine if they would be willing to go to Carlton, so there has to be a strong chance).

I know about Papley and his response, but any idea who the others were out of curiosity?

FWIW, one of our ITK's posted today that Geelong and Carlton havent even spoke about Curnow, but Carlton have spoken with both Sydney and the GC.

Does he have that marketability...I dont see it. Whenever ive watched him from a seat at the Scg when Carlton played i never thought wow this guy is special. I have for other players in other teams. Does he have a marketable personality? Does he even want to play for us. Id imagine the only thing left is kicking 5 goals a game?

Some do. Some of us know that A graders like Gulden Heeney etc arent happening. :thumbsu:
