And sweide wasPoor Callum Twomey must be shattered tonight that Ison wasn’t bid on in the first round![]()
I'd take Murray if it means getting another F2 as wellHope we don’t take Murray, rather the best available kid.

I just remembered we traded with North (feels like it happened 3 months ago). Maybe they won't bid... Would still leave Dogs regardless but it could be something
I’d rather a Ludowyke than a Greeves. But what would I know.
Me too. Purely from a list point of view. We would have gotten a KPD, a KPF and big bodied mid with our three picks.
Greeves would be a good pick up as well
Completely respect the logic behind this, and like the way he plays, but you need to go back and watch what Greeves does as a footballer, the answer being: everything but tear down the wing like an Olympic sprinter, and he's still got acceleration in his game, especially if he's got someone to push off from. Sort of resembles TDK's stoppage capability with more agility but 10 cms and 10 kgs conceded, which is part of why he is sliding.I think Archie Ludowyke is worth a punt. We lost two key forwards, so adding one should be a priority if he is there. One genuine key forward on a list is crazy stuff.
Even without 28 we can cover pick 27 with the other picks. If we got to make a pick at 28..
..38 and 44 cover a bid at 29.
I wonder if those expire at the end of Night 1The deal for Pick 11 would have included a wink/nudge no bidding on our boys clause.
He said he should be the #1 pick this year.
fwiw, I don't mind that!
WC bid on Dean at 3 as that’s where they rated him. After what WC did? Not even SOS would have bid on Dean at #3.
SOS is the least of our worries.
You'd like to think so, but there are some heroes in the pack. The deal for Pick 11 would have included a wink/nudge no bidding on our boys clause.
Yeh Dogs still the main worry imo. Maybe Power can sweet talk Power for usAside from the wink wink, I don't see norf bidding with the first pick of the second night,, they'll be falling for an option right now
If we could trade 28 for a F2 and a pick at say 50, we would have the points to match Ison and get at worst a pick in the mid 50’s. The later Ison goes the better the next pick. This is something I hope they consider.I'd take Murray if it means getting another F2 as well
I will bet Jevan Phillipou does not pass Graham Wright's Figjam FilterWhen asked who should go no. 1 he said himself
Long term it may help us more than hinder us if the AFL see it as the system workingSo what did WC achieve by bidding on Dean?
No, I don’t believe they thought he was the third best player in the draft. This was supposed to be a tactic of some kind.
The only way there is a bid there (or at dogs) is if they trade the pick to someone elseAside from the wink wink, I don't see norf bidding with the first pick of the second night,, they'll be falling for an option right now
Yeah agreeLong term it may help us more than hinder us if the AFL see it as the system working
Depends who they have at that pick and whose f2 they may get.If we could trade 28 for a F2 and a pick at say 50, we would have the points to match Ison and get at worst a pick in the mid 50’s. The later Ison goes the better the next pick. This is something I hope they consider.
Simple answer is they're incompetent idiots.Taking all the emotion out if it, I still don't understand what West Coast did today with their bidding. If their aim was to get Beau Addinsall off the Gold Coast why didn't they bin on Dylan Patterson? Thats around 400-500 points that GC didn't have to find. Why did they bid on Dean? It resulted in our first two picks getting used by North and Essendon instead of being absorbed into a bid, which in turn meant their third pick lost about 100 points in value. With back to back bids that around 200 points in value that Gold Coast didn't have to match
They must be really stupid. It would explain their list management decisions lately.
Completely respect the logic behind this, and like the way he plays, but you need to go back and watch what Greeves does as a footballer, the answer being: everything but tear down the wing like an Olympic sprinter, and he's still got acceleration in his game, especially if he's got someone to push off from. He's in all phases of play, and he always knows exactly what to do. You can drop him at full forward, you can put him in at the centre bounce, you can have him take a kick out, and he manages and controls the game while having great hands, a great read in the air, in the contest, and on the ground, and near elite disposal. I think at worst he plays like Darcy Fogarty, and sooner.
You could drop him into our forward group next year and he could help hold down the key forward rotation if Kemp isn't right, or Moir isn't firing, or we want to go a different direction with the ruck unit. Then he can step in and relieve Cripps for a few minutes, especially with the 5-player bench.
And in an elite program, he could advance into becoming Cripps' replacement, or something even greater due to his ability at either end. I'm stunned Geelong overlooked him, and I think we have the right high performance staff and depth chart to give him the right kind of opportunity.
If the character and psychology of the guy is all good, he's well worth the punt. There's still such a run of talls if we want to dabble after that and securing Ison (perhaps even before).
After Ludowyke - and outside of academy prospects - there's Emmett, Heatherton, Curtin, Murray, Onley (if you want to get creative and turn him into a KPD). Away from that you've got mids and small forwards Rodriguez, Hibbens-Hargreaves, Kickett, Nairn, Walley, Oudshoorn-Bennier, Byrne, and Scott.
Even without 28 we can cover pick 27 with the other picks.
I think they legitimately did it just to get us back for Chesser. Otherwise it makes no sense because it actually hurt their draft hand.So what did WC achieve by bidding on Dean?
No, I don’t believe they thought he was the third best player in the draft. This was supposed to be a tactic of some kind.

Not quite unfortunatelyYou'd think so with the 10% discount?
