I'm all in on Grlj for us. Great speed and agility, strong in the contest, keen to apply defensive pressure. Obviously willing to attempt the courageous kicks that open up the game with mixed success but that's the best way to learn.

I think he's got a viable pathway into the senior side with the ability to play half back along with his midfield work.

Certainly ticks lots of boxes for us, clean to see how his footskills evolve with more pressure at the nationals

Is there a tall forward around the mark of a possible TDK compo pick?

Really hard to judge. We could legitimately end up anywhere from bottom 4 to top 4, and anything in between, depending on whether our last few results are a) evidence of being flat track bullies only, or b) evidence of newly found form and confidence.

Theres Ludowkye but at the moment there's not a heap of talent in the pool for KPFs. They tend to emerge through the season though as kids grow into their bodies or new found height after a growth spurt. There are definitely some gun mids who would fit the bill for us in the 5-10 range though.

I am not across how the new rules work, will it still be beneficial for us to trade our 2026 first round pick for a 1st round in this draft knowing we are going to be unlikely to use it next year with Cody Walker?

No.
Given how highly rated Cody is (and where we would be assuming we'd finish), we're going to need that pick to help cover the points next year.

Are we no longer allowed to get a heap of junk picks to make up the points needed for Cody? If we assume he is a top 5 pick what will we need to make it work?

That's right. The new rules make it a lot harder. No piling up the junk picks any more. Depending where exactly he goes, it will probably take two mid-late first round picks to match top 5. Pick 1 might be as many as 3 first round picks, but it may be more advantageous to go into deficit, will have to see how that plays.

Next year's draft will be interesting in that regard, with Port Adelaide pushing hard to get Dougie Cochrane qualified as an NGA. Could see the top two picks in the draft spoken for.

Named in the Young Guns team, so that seems to mean he does

Interesting because they either need to have nominated for draft last year or played 3+ games in state leagues. He's done neither. Maybe an exemption or he's on show for ND along with the CTL boys.

Edit: he is mentioned in a Zero Hanger article under the subheading "midseason draft watch', so who knows.

If we are able to get an early pick from losing TDK, I’m still keen on taking Sam Grlj to add that speed and agility to our midfield.

For our second pick, I’d love us to take Luke Hallett. 185cm with an absolutely booming kick. I’m a big fan of players who can happily slot them from 55m. He seems a versatile player but I like his traits as a potential long term replacement for Acres.

Hopefully we can do something about our small forward issues with trades for a ready made player or two.
