I suspect with so much uncertainty from the AFL, we will look to move back this year to secure Dean and Ison, as well as gain another 1st in the 2026 draft.

It’s widely known the 2025 draft isn’t as good as other years so adding the 2 known commodities plus strengthening our 2026 trade/draft hand is the smart move.

I’d trade with * - something like:
Out: picks 9, pick 11
In: picks 21, 27, 30 and their 2026 1st
Cal Twomey mentioned the Cows as one club looking to move up the board. May be as simple as pick 9 in exchange for pick 16 and their future 1st.

The one thing to probably consider is our reported interest in Dovaston - which suggests that our preference is to get an additional pick in this year's draft. Although I assume that'd be dependant on Dean not being bid on early, in which case we get a late 1st back.

If he cops a bid from WCE or the Tiggs, we may just opt to trade out for points with someone like the Cows.

If we go into deficit next year for the Walker bid, the deficit would run into our 2027 1st round pick. Given it is the Tasmania draft and we have another 1st round pick in 2027 I don't see any value in trading in for another 2026 1st round pick. (this is obviously contingent on no changes to the draft).

If we go into deficit for Ison we better hope he doesn't get selected in the 1st round. Unfortunately, he is likely to be in the back end of the 1st round with all the academy and father son. If he was 2nd round I assume our deficit would be 2nd round 2026, of which we don't have a pick atm? not sure the scenario?

Trading out draft assets this year for next year does not appear to be a smart move. Our best option is to hold and assess on the night. Worst case scenario is we walk out with Dean, Ison and 1/ later pick 2/ extra list spot - and all our points next year. intact Best case, the boys are bid on a bit later and we get another high end talent.

Can’t see Essendon going for that deal.
It’s going to be hard to find anyone willing to part with a 2026 F1 for a 1st this year.
Especially with the extra points we’ll need to cover Dean and Ison.

Going to do the math stuff

Ok so if we get 6, 21, 30 (2834) for 9 & 11(2560) on raw points that is a gain of 170 points

But let's play out a likely scenario.

Pick 1 Willem Duursma - WCE

Pick 2 Zeke Uwland (GC bid match w/ pick 15, 18, 24 get 43 back)

Pick 3 Cooper Duff-Tytler - WCE

Pick 4 Daniel Annable (Bris bid match w/ pick 17, 22, pick 42 get pick 55 back)

Pick 5 Xavier Taylor - Rich

Pick 6 Dylan Patterson (GC bid match w/ pick 25, 26, 33 get pick 53 back)

Pick 7- Sullivan Robey - Rich

Pick 8 - Carlton Pick whoever

Pick 9 - Dean bid ( match w/ 21, 26 get pick 51 back) leaving us with pick 39, 50, 51 to match Ison which would work if the bid comes 25 or 26 (assuming that the 197 points discount for round 2 still applies)

If Dean is not bid on before Ess and if we do this pick swap with Ess, I think it's safe to assume Ess do not bid on Dean.

And so, under this scenario, Dean's earliest bid would be 10. Maybe even 11 if Melb wait until their 2nd pick.

(again, this is assuming 1) Dean does not get picked up WCE or Rich, 2) we do a pick swap with Ess, 3) All three top Academy picks are bid prior to Dean)

Any avid u18s watcher able to give an opinion on phillipou the player, and whether he would be a good fit for us.

Phillipou would be a good fit for us and every other team ;)

Just ask him... :p

Asked at last month’s draft combine which player he’d take if he had Pick 1, Jevan Phillipou told foxfooty.com.au: “I’d pick myself. That’s not arrogance, that’s just confidence in my abilities.

“I would take myself, just because of my all-round athleticism and my dual-sided kicking. I’ve got really good skills and I’ve got smarts as well … I feel like I can be utilised straight away. I’m very versatile.”

It is a complete nonsense!

The club values Ison. The first bloke to like your post values Ison, very highly. This strategy completely wipes out the ability to match a bid.

Aside from permutations around picks dropping due to bid matching through the draft, a quick look at the ramifications of a bid at 10 for Dean, which is low by many projections. The points from 21 and 30 are eaten up and nothing remains to match/draft Ison.

We can't find someone to trade future late picks into this draft for Ison? He'd only cost 400-ish points.

They won't give up all 3 of those picks, they have their own NGA kids to match bids on. Might get two of them, but would have to give one of our later picks back.

I think this is a realistic outcome. Essendon may want our 2027 first too as they are looking to get Bewick.

From everything I’ve read about this draft, I am confident that I can probably nominate for the draft and get taken in the top 5.

I'm pretty sure WCE is selecting me straight after Duursma....

Cooper Duff-Tytler would have otherwise gone Pick 2, but I hear he’s lacking in height, rucking ability, marking ability, kicking skills, physical attributes and handballing.

Don’t even get me started on what Harry Dean doesn’t have going for him.

We're really happy with Ferris we think he adds a lot to our smalls brigade.

He brings experience and a real ability to engage the fans

I have lots of AFL player attributes:
  • Levi Casboult's goalkicking
  • Caleb Marchbank's injury record
  • Toby Green's discipline
  • Sam Frost's decision making
  • Blaine Boekhurst's contested ball winning
  • TDK's loyalty
  • Brendan Fevola's maturity
  • Lance Whitnall's nutritional habits
  • Caleb Daniel's height (in very thick socks)

I come in peace.

Gettable mentioned us looking at a possible pick swap with you lads.

What do you think would be a realistic asking price for pick 9?

I’m guessing 16 and a F1 would be Carlton’s expectation. Seems a tad steep from our end though understandable from yours. Are there any other variations that would get it done?

We have a full suite of picks next year thanks to the Lions.
