Does any fanbase shitcan or downplay their own players more than Carlton? It’s really an incredible phenomenon
I think the combine will impact his draft position.Dean doesn't play for a month or so and all of the sudden he's got all these knocks on his game out of the blue.
For anyone who watched the champs series and his CTL games they'd know he was near on impassable down back similar to that of a Weitering or Sam Taylor type figure.
Absolutely a top 10 talent this year, well ahead of some of the other names that have been floated as 'ahead of him'.
Is he still only 193cm? How quick is he? He looked taller but looked like he lumbered around like a ruckman despite covering the ground well.
I think part of him being impassable was that the top tall averages less than a goal a game.
See some similarities to Aaron Francis as an undersized defender that intercepts and kicks well as a junior and looked a great prospect. AF was a bit more rounded with thoughts he could play mid and forward. Hoping for more from Dean.
Everyone seems to gets compared to a Bont rather than a Jared Grant

His not on our list but more importantly not being good enough or worth a top 30 pick currently is shit canning one of our own? Get grip!

Instead of saying "hell yeah, a kid who's rated around the top 20. How exciting!", its "nah, he's not that good. Shows how crappy this draft is".

All I’m saying, if he goes top 20, then this draft isn’t very strong as this guy has a bit of work to do and is nowhere near a previous top 20 pick. Nothing to do with a guy who hasn’t played a game of AFL yet as well.
If you have followed my previous posts, you would find I’m one of a very few, who ‘shit can’ players.

30 years of mediocrity would do that.
Accountability is not a dirty word, although, it seems harder and harder these days to make companies and individuals accountable. I guess all new 'positive re-enforcement' language would do that....

At the end of last year people who know far more than me said that Ison had the ability to push into the first round.
Then Jack had an interrupted pre season which lead to a slow start to the year. He's come home like a Train. The draft may be weak but Ison pushing up the boards has little to do with it's strength. He's earned his way there.

Yes. Downplaying losing Kennedy is a great example of that last season. Also what about the massive over rating on certain players by our fanbase, and the acceptance of lower standards, seen some players get 100 games over the last 15 years who should't have. But they're 'role players'. I hate that word so much. Role players is the most dangerous term in the sport, it's the justification for playing inadequate players.

Pre-draft: oh yeah, lot to like about him, hopefully we can get him at our pick
Draft night and first day of pre-season: THIS KID WILL SAVE US IN <area>
Late pre-season: he's looking a million bucks, he's going to create competition and I reckon he'll see some games pretty early on
Start of the season: unlucky not to be picked
Mid-season: I reckon he's close
Debut when we're 10 injuries deep: he's not ready
3 games in: wow he's got a lot to improve with his kicking/marking/awareness/endurance/pace
10 games in: he's gotta get a motor on if he wants another contract
As the 37th player on the list, barely featuring in VFL bests: why hasn't he got a new contract? We can't afford to lose young talent while <200 game player> still gets games!
Delisted: this club is rubbish!
Picked up by another club DFA: look how rubbish we are!!!
Proceeds to do nothing for a year: we really mucked up with that one!
Two years in, has played 10 mediocre games: we sure could have used him right now!
Immediately delisted after the 2nd year: he's rubbish, what a waste of that pick!
Carlton supporters on average come across like a hyperactive cycle of generic nonsense. Targeted gambling ads discussing problem behaviours should be in all our list management and draft threads, the impact would probably put $5000 back in your pockets.

Its pretty understandable why 30 years or "mediatory" would translate to "mediocre" fans - certainly not all by the way.
Not that i agree or think its justifiable, but its understandable for sure.
Yes and no.
Look at * pretty much same boat and supporters are expressing in all different ways like all the different ways carlton supporters are. We are all human.
Collingwood fans were calling out Mcrae and saying Diacos was getting an ego, and their cheersquad needed to lift, with just a couple of losses at the back end of the season.
As much as people wont like to here it, our supporters particulary across the big 4 melb clubs, are all pretty much the same. The only reason why we have been looked down on is because we have been crap for so many years and our supporters are frustrated and Collingwood has been good for 30 years and they have the "best supporters" that travel the country so well.
I'm tired of the narrative our supporters are toxic or negative or whatever. All supporters are the same if you put them in a similar situation.

The day that Daicos went pick 4, Tom Green at pick 10... Often they allow locked in players to slide a little in the draft, so hopefully Dean is such a player that clubs will slide him out.

Bit of a throw at the stumps and probably more a question to the double blues fans at this stage, but is Alex Holt worth a look as a 20yo rookie? Senior debut in Rd 6 and now with 20 and a goal in a winning grand final. Looks to be a balanced player, solid overhead for his size, makes good decisions and uses the ball well.
