That’s strange from Cavanagh.
Twomey yesterday said likely 3 picks total including Dean and Ison, which is much more logical.

To take 4 in the ND would mean changing our list structure for the first time since current list rules came into place, or, cutting another contracted senior player that nobody in the media has even speculated about.

It's possible, but after matching an early pick on Dean, and then Ison, we'd be left with picks at the end of the draft.

Wonder if Eagles want to do something like 9 for 13 + 34. Would give us some additional points overall and gets them 3 top-10 picks. Also, comes with the provision that they don't bid on Dean.

Otherwise, we can just call their bluff but who knows.

I can't see that happening though. Any "pressure" clubs want to put on Carlton doesn't really work if we keep saying we're happy to match with 9 and for 11 to slide back in the draft a bit.

The article to me reads like a journo with an agenda - mostly because I just don't think Dean is that good. Love him but he's not leaping over tall buildings or anything. Just a good solid player.

I'll wait for a more credible source.

What if Melbourne trade Pick 37 + Suns 2026 R1 pick (12-18 range) to Carlton for Pick 9.

Twobitmey said (Dean will be bid on before Carltons pick for sure) Carlton are open to moving 9 or 11 or just matching the bid for Dean and having the other pick moved back to a mid to late pick in the teens. An extra 1st next year for Carlton would give them 3 1sts (needing 2 R1 picks to match for Walker)

Be funny if Melbourne had Pick 7, 8, 9 in this years draft.

They'll know that we're committed to taking Dean in the draft. We match and it chews up 9 and 11, as well as pushing our next pick until after their pick 13.

It's not pick 2 they're worried about cos we'll match it, it'd be their following pick they're trying to push up the order.
