I don't think they're in a position to act in bad faith - their picks this year sit right on Dean's widely accepted value, with suggestions that he could be bid on even earlier. Walker is genuinely in the frame for top 2-3 next year, with plenty of water still to go under the bridge, so if they're bottom three then a bid would be fair play.

Yeah a bid at 1 would even be fair play for Walker next year.

But this year, Dean is not a type they need to add to their list. Even if they do bid, they'd do it with their second pick.

would you still pick him with acl of the 1st half next year

Depends who else is available. He's not my first choice, but just saying, he's a pretty skillful player... great running capacity and speed. He takes the game on, pretty solid kicking skills and he's pretty good overhead which is something our mids lack since we lost Kennedy imo.

If we go by that phantom draft, Oskar Taylor was still available, so he'd be another one I'd really consider. NHH is another one who is very talented as well.

Would it mutually beneficial to do a deal with Essendon to get ahead of the Dean bid, likely from Melbourne.

Give 9, 11 & 43
Get 6, 21 & 27
Depends on how many of the academy kids GC17 wants. Don't they have like 5? 3 of them top 15 prospects?

Thing to remember with Dean, which the other clubs would know, is that he has benefitted from being in an AFL system

The other boys who are not tied do not get the same benefit

So Dean will be further progressed than others and therefore likley closer to his ceiling whereas those non-tied are further from their's

Its also another part of the explanation as to why bids come later for NGA and F/S

Obviously not trying rag on Dean, but as the phantom drafts start coming out we will see what clubs are thinking about prospective players as opposed to rankings rated purely on present talent
I reckon he's about halfway to his ceiling. He needs another 8-10kg on his frame, and needs to finish growing up (another 2-3cm). Once he has his full adult frame, then we'll see what he can really do. And it'll be so much better than what he is now.

I'm not placing much stock in this, but anyway

Frum what I saw of Uwland, he's pick 2 every day of the week. Possibly going pick 1 of it was an open draft. Also, Essendon don't need any more young defenders. So they'd just take the two guys they want without any ****ing around. Melbourne needs defenders and their picks is roughly where I see the bid coming from.

It's okay, injuries have hopefully allowed Ison to drop enough for us to get him in the 20s-30s. Though I do worry we may see an early bid with him too on draft night.
Now Ison I can see Essendon putting in a late first round bid for. He'd practucally be one of their best players ever. Which is why I would like to see them trade 6, 21, 27, and 30 for 9, 11, and one of our 2027 F1 picks.

Essendon have NGAs, so they won’t want to give up all 3 picks, and we shouldn’t have to throw in an F1

I like it Pommy, Happy with Dean and Dovaston. But I'm not sure that Essington will bid on Harry given they have a FS coming up in a couple years. I think they play it a bit more safe.. and not poke the Carlton Bear... maybe, possibly a Melb bid. But still happy with Harry and Dovaston, and Ison of course.

The thing with this idea that we just match Dean bid with 9 and let 11 slide back to a later first round pick to use, is it assumes we then only need 43 to match Ison.

I think we'll need more to match Ison. And by only having 43 left he is essentially live for others to pick. I dont want to risk missing him. Actually like him more then most likely to be available late 1st round.

Will 43 & 54 with the discount be enough points to match an Ison bid at say around 25?

No unfortunately. Not even close. 25 is 590 points. 43 is only worth 184. 54 is worth essentially nothing.
Players need to learn to cool their jets in their draft year - we’re taking you alright, just skills training inside our gym with the occasional stroll on the park for your CTL team (resting in the forward pocket).
Pick# 55 will suffice
