What are you trading to the Dogs to get their pick 33?

I doubt this scenario works out for us anyway, I made a table earlier which showed what making this trade means for us in terms of bid matching. Basically, your pick 16 will be 18 by the time there's a bid on Dean (most likely).

That's 836 points. So if Dean is bid on at pick 10 for example, we need 1148 points. So while 33 obviously helps, that's maybe going to come in to ~30 so lets say its another 454 points.

836 + 454 = 1290 points. Minus the bid for Dean at 10 in our example and we're left with only 142 points. Plus 84 to that for bids after pick 18 and we basically have 226 points to play with for Ison. Which is essentially useless to us given after pick 36 we just have to match with whatever next pick we have.

So for us to want to do it, we'd basically need your 48 + 55 as well as 16 + 33 (if you can get that from the Dogs) + your F1. That would put us in a position to match both Dean and Ison comfortably. But I don't know if you guys would be willing to give that much up...
I’d imagine 48 would need to be used for the Dogs pick.

Alternatively we just give you our F2 and 48 and 55 to see if you can use them in a swap of your own.

It’s a lot to give up from our end, I’m not totally against it though given the strong SA contingent this year. If we got intel Sharp or Cumming would be there I’d imagine we get pretty desperate.

Like I said it’s a long shot but our clubs aren’t foreign to pick swaps over the years.

Not sure what GC are doing for points. They'd need 5000 points if their academy kids go pick 2 and 3. Right now they have 3700. I guess they're projecting their kids to slide out a bit.

Bids at 2 & 3 would require 4193 points.
They will probably trade their 1st down for more points, but also after their first match, their later picks move in for more points.
Unlikely that West Coast bid on both their players straight up too.

So they're potentially 500 points short which is a pick an extra pick 28. Not nothing.
Bris could be a bit short on their kid also.

What about Archie do you not like compared to those guys?
Drops his head a bit when things aren't going his way imo, reminds me a lot of Lemmey in that regard. Schubert and Emmett are real competitors whether the games on their terms or not and are really really strong in the air in terms of bringing the ball to ground and marking at the highest point. Also haven't liked his ball use at stages this year when he hasn't been able to impact deep inside 50, makes me doubt his ability to develop into a quality CHF.

Marsh has the appeal of positional flexibility with his smarts and mobility in comparison. Heatherton imo is a better contested mark but obviously hasn't played anywhere near as much to get a good sample size so would merely be a punt at a later pick.

At a guess I reckon you guys may be the back up option if Dean gets an early bid. Do the deal and bail out of the draft with Dean and Ison.

It just seems odd though that its been reported our strong interest in Dovaston if we were just looking to trade out....unless it's just a load of dog's bollocks.

Perhaps the other thing to consider is that Carlton may be looking to stockpile future 1st rounders if they have an in principle agreement from a player like Humphrey or Butters for trade next year. The reality is that we have zero idea what goes on behind the scenes, just what gets reported.

Depending on the rules and points required for Cody next draft, we could well be armed with 5 first round picks to trade if we get your future 1st.

Pick swap with you lads is gaining traction in the media. Personally I still have doubts but doesn’t hurt to theorise.

Hypothetically, if we were to trade with the Bulldogs for 33.

We give: 16, 33 and our F1.
You give: 9, 11 and your F4.

33 would help with an Ison bid i would imagine?

If you want a mix of this year and next year:

We give: 16, 55 (could be 48 if you twist our arm), F1 and F2
You give: 9, 11 and F4

Any thoughts? I come in peace as always.

Love dealing with young Reid 😉
The guy knows he’ll have to assume the “Bryce Gibbs memorial position” again if he wants to dance with the Blues …

The ball use... Still hoping he slides to our range post Dean bid.

I know he’s got knocks on him Walshy. Particularly in terms of his ability to win his own footy. In terms of that rap, I always feel as though it is a bad one. If a player can’t win their own footy at underage level, I feel as though they rarely accumulate at senior level.

But do you feel more comfortable with him than that? I agree the kicking is to die for.

This might sound crazy, but I'm not worried about his contested game whatsoever. When I watch him, I don't see a complete liability ala Lochie O'Brien (sorry soap), he just looks like a stock standard underager that is an outside specialist.

He's a flanker that provides elite kicking and decision making. Why are we expecting him to be a contested beast? This is the same thinking that led us to having the slowest and beefiest small forward group of all time lol.

IMO, if he is available when our pick comes around, we should be sprinting to the podium. I can't remember us ever drafting someone who was considered an elite kick. Let's do it for once.

The knocks on his ball winning ability are overblown by some, he can win his own ball both in the air and in the contest, he just doesn't have the speed or strength to get himself out to space once he's got it which means he can't use his main weapon properly. Thus he's probably destined for an outside distribution role without the scope to go on ball or be a threat inside 50 like so many look for in today's prospects.

A fairer comparison would be a Mitch Duncan or Kane Farrell type imo. Still very good players but neither are ever going to be genuine A grade superstars due to their physical limitations.

Haven't seen much of Pickett, but based on a quick viewing of his SANFL highlights I'd say

Quick
Excellent composure
Keen goal sense
Deep bag of tricks
Loopy handballs
Great evasion
Upfield ability

Kind of reminds me of Jeffy Gartlett

Apparently hasn't shown much defensive application, but I think with the right coaching and direction (perhaps a former no. 19?) that could be improved quickly.

Certainly has the speed to startle defenders
