During trade period I would have preferred we didn't give Swans both 31 & 42 in the Curnow deal. The Ison pick would not even be the slightest issue.

As has been said, feels like our compensation for players lost is watered down if we walk away with just our father-son & academy pick which we assumed we'd get before the trade period.

Hoping Dean somehow slides through to our first pick or at worst Melbourne's second pick.

I would have preferred they gave us 12 first rounders and Gulden. But that's not how it works. Ison won't be an issue regardless, we have umpteen future picks we can shuffle around to generate an extra second or third rounder.

We have picks 9, 11, 43, 54, 67, 72, 87, 105.

Not so sure you can shuffle those umpteen picks after 43 into a second rounder. Twomey is predicting there will be somewhere between 55-60 picks taken this year.

We only have the first 4 of those (for each list spot).
Those late picks are literally worthless, but the chance to trade extra picks closed yesterday. Can still trade on draft night, but picks beyond list spots will be deleted before then.

Are you able to trade in extra picks to match bids over and above your remaing list spots on draft night?

WalshistheGOAT what are your thoughts on Harley Barker? Sounds exactly like the type of player we need, obviously coming off an ACL, but seems to have some traits that would fit well. Sounds like he could be around the mark of our second pick…
I think Barker is a quality player and has scope to be a very very good winger at AFL level with his athleticism, but I think theres players around his range that would better fit our list needs.

Sure just make the carlton first decision, I am about prioritising the best player over the romance of father son. If Dean is the best player, take him
We have put all our draft capital for the next 2 drafts into Dean and Walker. Unless we sell more again in next 2 years.
I'll say it again; we gave up too much in the Curnow trade and the last Hawthorn pick swap this year has hurt our bargaining power.

What happens with the rules regarding matching next season will play a role but it mostly depends on what we do with 11 from Sydney.
If we don’t turn it into something good it does seem like we don’t really benefit too much.

Maybe I’m wrong but I just don’t see clubs offering their future firsts for picks in this years draft especially when next years draft class is regarded to be better.

Hopefully the Dean bid is reasonable for our sake, as I think we need to add another first round pick to our haul this year with Dean and Ison and then next year with Cody. Continue to add and build to our young core before Tassie comes in and that’s when we can attack and be aggressive in free agency and trade.

I broadly agree, but the rumor is that St Kilda and Adelaide are interested in a future first for pick 11. The rationale floating around BF is that they think they’ll finish high (so their future first will be late), and they are keen on Jevon Philippou, who should still be there around that pick.

C4 claimed Melbourne is also keen on Pick 11 (https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/2025-afl-draft-prospects-and-discussion.1391934/post-90182893 ). I’m assuming they’d be swapping Gold Coast’s F1 in, maybe to grab Kozzy Pickett’s cousin?

Adelaide for their 2025 #16 and future 1st for our 2025 #9 & F3rd

StKilda have no draft picks this year that would help us consider anywhere near a deal..

We wont need more back unless Dean bid is super early. They could chuck in 50 which comes down.

Id like Saints > Adelaide > GC pick, in that order of preference.

Sounds like the Crows and possibly even St.Kilda are keen to trade into this year's first round. I'm coming around to the idea of getting another 2026 round 1 selection. Puts us in a very strong position in what is a superior draft

Dean, Ison and another '26 1st would be a very good result IMO.

Absolutely agree. Any future picks will be great trade capital for next season. 2027 picks will naturally we viewed as less valuable so if we are going to trade for players next year it’s easily the best way to gain value from this years picks.
Even future early seconds will be very handy if the AFL don’t change the matching process for next season. It would allow us to trade our two current 2026 firsts and get great value.

We’re doing the best we can with the hand we’re dealt. Holding out to trade back/into next year will alway holds peak value on draft night. Look at North’s trade last year v what we paid for pick 3 at during trade period or what Melbourne paid for the Essendon’s first pick.

Sounds like there are a few clubs vying for picks 9 & 11 so the competition might help bid up the value.

What annoys me however is how all of these northern clubs and WB/Coll have been getting access to top quality players for 10c on the dollar and we’ve had to wait over 10 years for a lick of the ice cream and need to pay 80c on the dollar for Dean. Who knows how many first rounders we’ll need to get Walker alone.

Agree totally with this, the changes are meaning we are paying a premium for Dean & Walker, certainly restricting our capacity to add more quality talent when we are trying to build a list to be a contender in 2-3 years time.
