It’s accurate because of the inside information he gets from the clubs not because he is some sort of talent ID guru.

Speaking of Twomey and his sidekick - did anyone else find it in poor taste to put Dean on a mock game show and play the footage of his old man stacking it at the GF? Dean handled it well but it was pretty cringe and needless. Twomey seemed to be absolutely revelling in it as well throughout other coverage - even calling for the footage to be played again during the live draft, making jokes about Peter wearing good footwear so he doesn’t fall when presenting the jumper, etc.

Maybe I’m being too precious but I felt it was a bit disrespectful given the gravity of the day for the family.

If North/Dogs are going to bid and let us know prior we can always just trade out 28 for a F2 anyway. Then let the left over picks match the bid. Would be a tiny deficit - assuming it won't impact our F1 picks? How does it work when the deficit is so small it's not enough to drop a first round pick down one?

Deficit would come from the 2nd round.
Either 33 points (which might change a pick) or 5 (which wouldn’t).

Wait until Garry Hocking's kids are drafted. 🤣

If they were bidding for tactics they would have bid on Patterson at 3
Yep, it really looks like they didn't do their sums after GC traded with WB. Should have bid on Patterson, if not at 3, then at 4. Leeched them of points. Left with egg on their faces after GC matched their 2 later bids without going into deficit.

My purely gut feel preference if we get the pick before Ison is for us to draft Hetherton. I don't have a good feeling for Ludowick for some reason. Emmett would be alright but we've got HOK and Reidy already.

I think Thredgold is clearly the best pick left but we've got our backline sorted now. Thredgold looks a real solid backman, but only a backman.

I'd go the KPF with big upside, and to me, that's Hetherton over Archie.
how tall is he?

If you’ve never meet Cal I can inform you that he is an attention seeking flog of the highest order.

So what did WC achieve by bidding on Dean?

No, I don’t believe they thought he was the third best player in the draft. This was supposed to be a tactic of some kind.
SFA.

Some on here were saying WCE were in need of a backman and that is one of the reasons why they bid on Dean. Yeah sure, three picks in R1 and guess what, no backman.

His bio suggests he could play more than one position:

While he looks a natural defender with his ability to shut down dangerous forwards, Thredgold originally hit the state scene as a ruck-forward at Under 16 level.

He was thrown into every key position post for Sturt at times this season and proved a reliable team player along the way.
His dynamism was further proven at the National Draft Combine, where he achieved three top-10 results across the event.

For those Clubs / others commentators complaining about F/S selections, focus instead on Academies affecting the draft. This draft, only 1 F/S taken in first round (Pick 3), essentially costing the club picks 9 and 11. But Acadamy picks matched are 6 in 1st Round, with 4 going to 1 club (GC). It's the Academies that have a greater effect on changing draft order, not F/S... then throw in some dodgy FA compensation...

Highly doubt it. All the talk is changes and GC just got another 4 1st rounders.
They had to trade in 2 first round picks and used their own this year to do so

The clubs have no idea what the changes would be and we’ve just been through a trade and draft process where picks have flown all over the joint from next years draft.

The changes had to be made prior to this years trade period for it to affect next years draft.

I’m willing to lay a hefty bet nothing changes next year and nothing would have changed even before 2 clubs didn’t match bids. Clubs clearly convinced the AFL to let the changes they only made last year to be tested and see the outcome first.

Let's not forget they gave up a F2 to skip ahead of hawthorn - the only possible reason for that is they thought haw were keen on Addinsall too. Then they miss on Addinsall because they can't add up points on a calculator.

Genius.

Can you imagine the meltdown on here if it was Austin doing that?
Austin isn’t very good at math either and did worse than that by taking two picks in the teens into draft night giving us no bargaining power and forcing us to take the shit deals offered from Essendon and North Melbourne. The north deal in particular terrible.

Ah yes we should have waited longer before making trades and yet somehow still have it done prior to Pick 3 when the bid came?

And no pick swaps were allowed from a couple of weeks before so when exactly were you expecting these trades to be done? It's only become clear that Harry was going to be bid on this early recently. During the trade period a lot on here were still hoping he may fall closer to 9.
