I think being priced out of getting Cody would constitute being screwed

The only benefit should be the ability to match. Not a complete bargain.

It’s a shame it’s come around as we’re set to benefit but it’s overdue.

Yes. If we have a decent season and so does Sydney we’re going to need to turn those second rounders into a first and then package three first into a top 5 pick. You can see this coming from a mile off. And so can Austin and Wright.
In a strong draft that's not a smart list management decision imo

My only concern is that our team didn't do enough diligence on this part of the draft because we were blinkered to Dean and Ison. We can only hope that isn't the case and we just rate next year's top 40 significantly higher
How would you, or anyone here know that?
Wouldn't you think that by passing, and trading into next year's draft, the club actually HAS done due diligence??

We were only ever taking these two. Everything we've done has suggested that was the plan all along. Might jag a possible late pick. Or we wont. :thumbsu:

I would argue is Dean that far ahead of Thredgold? Time will tell.

Well a whole industry full of recruiters and football people thought he was. Seems like a pointlessly negative argument at this stage.

But if you want to declare Dean a bust or Thredgold better, we will start a predictions thread so nobody can come back later and say they knew xyz would happen.

Graham Wright is there with Nick Austin ... do you really think there was not enough due diligence?
It's hard to know for sure. Graham Wright is technically CEO, and took time away from the game, so not sure on his recent track watching. Austin I would expect to have done some diligence, but if we weren't expecting early bids for Dean - that diligence was more likely centred on 7-15 range.

Based on the rhetoric from the club, we were just focused on Dean and Ison....I just hope we didn't have such a blinkered view that we've missed an opportunity for a good player at 28.

I think it's a good move. People seem to just want to be entertained.

We have 4 train on players at the moment and 2 spots left. We may still take someone late and take that extra F2 home with us.
The concept is a good idea. Hawthorn drop two places in the draft and get a mid range second rounder we lose our pick completely and get a mid 30s pick back. See the difference.

Who declared Dean a bust? I'm stating that key defenders are normally picked outside of the top 10. Like I stated it will be interesting to see their careers unfold
