My understanding is we can have 2 players training per spot?

If true surely we would be looking at Phillips and Paea. We need some KPPs
Pretty sure 2 players per spot is correct. I think that Phillips and Paea can train with us without taking up those spots because they're already in our VFL program.

This. They get an exemption and we can bring in two externals.

We are still going on about Elijah Hollands?

Putting aside any requirements around his personal recovery, I just can’t see it in terms of the shape of the list. As others have said, the remaining spot has to be a tall.

We have now brought in Ainsworth, Ison, and Byrne. All of them are half forward pushing into midfield. We can sit around and chat about the respective merits of each of them as players, but the reality is that three of them are on the list and one of them isn’t.

Perhaps if there were two spots available Elijah might be a chance. But I just don’t see it with one up for grabs.

Dylan Patterson had contracts from 4 NRL clubs thrown at him at 15 years old. Kid looks an absolute gun from the little I've seen.

I was at Centennial Park last night where the Swans had a hit out for their youngsters. Let me say, the players on show were unbelievable! It was on the 3 ground so there was not many there to watch!

Plenty coming through from what I saw, they had 40+ players running around in match sim, ridiculous talent, clearly they had the hit out when the draft was on.

We do have the 2 talls from our VFL squad training with us, so we can still have Elijah as a train on with the option to pick a tall. The thing is if Elijah pulls his finger out, it'd be pretty hard to pick a tall over him regardless of the shape of our list.

I still just don’t see it. In the end, Elijah is a talented player. But he’s displayed the depth of that talent on the park for maybe half a season in his whole career.

If the club were to tell him he has a year in the VFL to prove himself, then I have no problem with that. Perhaps there is even a way back through the midseason draft? But I’d be very reluctant to put him on the list instead of a tall in 2026. Especially when we now have young players where we can prioritise their development through the same position… and you could add Moir to that mix too.

Lij is a clear best 22 player if he gets himself right, with potential to be top 10. Any tall we get is depth and that's it. I agree we need another KPP so in most situations would agree with you, but I'd never take a depth player, over someone who's in our 22.

Lij's situation is quite unique in that respect, but I don't know exactly what's going on so will trust the club to make the best decision.

Is there a list out yet of where your team ranked in the Draft ..?
I'm curious as to how Carlton went viewed by Independents with our losses compared to gains overall .. ?

I would have thought he'd be happy with that as fallback option. He's "one of us"
You could argue his AFL opportunity came earlier than it should have or than he might have expected. While he showed promise as a VFL player, compared to other guys that have fought their way onto a list from the state leagues, he hadn't done a lot. Barely a goal a game as a pure small forward. Never kicked more than 3. Whilst not undeserving, he was lucky to get a list spot.

He's still young. No shame in going back to the VFL for a couple of years and having another crack.

Not sure if you are aware but Jack Ison is 191cm. About an inch smaller than Charlie with the capacity to grow even more. Different player to Charlie but there are so many options that he might end up as. Permanent third tall up forward may well be one of them.

Let’s be realistic though, it will probably end up being 2 picks, as by February next year someone is likely to be put on the LTI, it’s inevitable in this sport. So you’d definitely have him and the talls training on as you frankly don’t know what reality will bring by February

FOX gave us an A.

He’s been on our list for two years. In that time he’s been best 22 for one season, and of that one season he was possibly best 10 for a handful of games. In his time at the Gold Coast he was rarely best 10 and on occasion found himself outside of the best 22.

I realise there are reasons behind this situation. But we are now talking about a player over an extended period of time who has rarely hit the top 10 on his club’s list. 17 other clubs had the chance to bite in the trade period and none of them did.

To me, he is more of a mirage than anything at this stage. Right now I would say the shape of the list means we don’t need him and the development of our younger players means we don’t need him either.

As I say, I am happy for him to have a year in the VFL to prove himself.
