I might be a bit pessimistic but I don't see him getting a proper crack at it. In the VFL he got some pretty big scores (avg of approx 108) but that was due to incredible tackle numbers that probably aren't realistic at AFL level, particularly when you already have a tackling machine like Steele in your midfield. He only averaged about 20 possessions per game as a full-time mid (I believe) last year, which is hardly knocking the door down for a shot at AFL level. When he did make it into the St Kilda team he didn't really impress either. Feel like they'll go with Windy as a main 3rd mid with Sinclair and some others rolling through rather than Garcia. Happy to be proven wrong though, if he does get a proper crack at CBAs he is a bargain
Very valid points. I'd counter by saying, the kid is 19 and not the finished product. It's not like he's a 25yo SSP player they've grabbed mid season.

He averaged 4.4 tackles pg on 40.5% ToG in his 9 games, that's going at a decent clip over a small sample size.

Rankine and extra 100k
Agree

JHF has that bye with plenty on it so if you can take him on and it works it could pay dividends even more that week when there’s bound to be some really weak teams struggling to field a good 18

Also over 12 weeks if rankine plays 12 and JHF 11 and JHF averages 95, rankine only needs to average 87 to make your team the same number of points when you could then swap them if that’s all the output your getting

(Then there’s the benefit the 100k invested elsewhere has provided)

My god, Rankine looked electrifying at the match sim today (expected). Looks like he’s taken his midfield craft to a different level, almost untagable.

Going to reconsider my forward line, think I need him in
Been my F1 since teams opened, and still can't see any reason to change that, happily.

I can now think of 1 reason for anyone else to change it 🤭
It's why I posted it - 'warning wil robinson, warning!'

I doubt that anyone would trade Rankine to JHF over the byes.

Probably need both in a completed team.

In which case it means rankine has proved his worth as a starting pick

I’m more liking at it from insurance that even if he just rises mildly and not a definite must have top 6 that the late bye trade flexibility is insurance for the pick

And at the same time JHF being on the 1st bye which also happens to be the one seemingly going to be harder to avoid being overloaded is insurance against not picking him hurting you

Is he getting regular games, WaynesWorld19?
I'd say 12 - 14 games ....he'll get managed, however Curtin's rate of improvement on last year is impressive

Becoming more of a threat in the air, much stronger, and using his body ....but as we know, it's PS

Also putting me off a fair few Adelaide blokes.

Have Rankine and Dawson currently but thinking of dropping both as there’s too many guys who can run through the middle and these two will be the first out as they can play well elsewhere.
This!!

The Crows mid setup is far from settled, and I see both Dawson and Rankine moved around if the game plan needs it.

Also, I see more upside and better role security in other forwards, most of them at a cheaper price.

For example, I think MaCrae. Smith, Baker and Daniel will all avg better than Rankine, and Sanders and Graham have more upside with more role security.

Agree with all of that except Sander's role security, yet to see proof that he'll be in with no mention of Harmes yet, if he is in then does he stay in when Treloar returns?

I think Rankine showed some pretty special midfield ability last year and he's apparently killing it this pre-season. I just don't see Nicks who is coaching to save his job putting Rankine in a forward pocket. He'll have 50+% CBAs.

Peatling is the other safe one. He had half the competition chasing him last year. There's no way he chose the crows without a guarantee on his role. He'll have 50%+ CBAs as well. Safe picks imo.
