Someone talk me out of it
I’ve warmed to Finlayson in my team.. I normally don’t get sucked into pre season game (Newcombe stuffed me that one year lol)
The reasons:

• I’ve been keen on port defenders all pre season (had Farrell in my side 60% of the time) due to Houston leaving and their run to start. Round 1-8 for key defenders on DFS they have 6 green teams and 2 neutral teams
• New role, wasn’t best 22 last year and will be fighting hard to keep his spot. I don’t think Ratugolea comes back if Finlayson continues what he did back there
• He took 2 kick ins
• Looked very comfortable down back

• Can hide behind best 18 for the first few rounds if it doesn’t work
• He’s priced at 56 and I believe he has 15 points upside minimum

Flags for me are the opponent (every Port player would have outdone their average) and role.

Saints give up bulk points to defenders at the best of times, but they also had no key forwards for him to be accountable for. Add that to JS and/or being used up forward if needed and it’s worrying.

I’ve been looking at him for draft haha. Forwards had a bit of a run early and I got left with dregs so trying to find some 80s that went undrafted.

Cooled on Sanders.. can easily see him getting Bevo’d to 4th or 5th in line behind Harmes Kennedy

Needs to go 90+ to be worth it. Would need to be 3rd mid to average close to that you’d imagine

Good post. Been thinking the same. Port have Coll, Rich, St Kilda, Hawthorn and North Melbourne early on. All he needs is 2 pop games in the first few and you can trade up to a premium or just keep him if he's flying. Worst case can just downgrade to a rookie if it doesn't work out and upgrade on the other end.

We have plenty of data telling us that a HB role change to distributor is incredible for fantasy - Ziebell , Jordan Clark, McKercher, Jayden Hunt etc etc

Picked up Billings after seeing him start well on the weekend whilst out and about and got a bit excited. However, now in a sober state, thinking it's not really my best option. Especially considering that I have taken a few other players that are higher on the risk/reward scale, including Curtin up forward, thinking I may potentially be better off going a "safer" option.

Anyway, would appreciate the 2 you would pick from Curtin/Billings vs the following free agent options I'm considering.

Yeah agreed he's hard to fit with many good options. Currently I've got JHF in the midfield as I think he'll outperform MID only players around that price point. I've got Garcia at F6 and given Davidson should play and score okay, the risk is further mitigated by a downgrade to Kako if it doesn't work out + the best 18 as you said.

Many say 'you can just jump on if he scores well' but usually it's not as easy as that - injuries come up, important rookies come up. If he pops early you're one step ahead of the comp.

I'm keeping an eye on him, would be a good get if he plays there for the majority of the year, if he gets switched forward at times that could be the nail in the coffin so a very interesting watch for sure and maybe one of those big risk/reward scenarios that could be worth the punt.
