The idea that being favourites in a football game could actually influence our chances in that contest has become complete anathema to me. If we are that mentally weak, we are destined for very little success when coming up against any credible opposition.

Let the media and the betting markets say what they like. I back our coach, our system, and our players to be well above the need for any particular 'noise' going into a game to fuel our motivation.
Learned many years ago that how I feel about us and the hype about us has zero bearing on how we go.
Nevertheless, I still like us to be the non-favourites in any game.

I'm worried about committing to this premiership add on membership thing because it will be the reason we fail in finals...

Didn't work that way for me. The one year I backed it in (2011), it paid off handsomely.

And I can also assure you that if you put the dollars down, that won't improve or diminish our chances one iota. Despite our mystical thoughts about all this at times, it simply doesn't work that way.

So I don't need to sit in the same spot on the sofa? Lol

If we beat Brisbane in the QF, then I think the Flag is ours for the taking. If we lose that game, then I think a prelim is as far as we will go.

Generally that's the way it goes. Since the introduction of the new finals format, 18 of the 25 premiers have won their QF and had the week off. While it's not impossible to go the hard way, Brisbane did it last year, I'm not convinced we are capable of doing it.

Could our older players play four hard finals in a row to a flag? Guys like Rhys and PFD would benefit from another week off, even Stewy, who's played through injury this year would appreciate another break.

Funnily enough I actually have us beating Brisbane and that not happening.

If you are like me and don't rate the Crows or the Pies as a premiership threat, it is quite likely we would have to beat Brisbane twice and GWS to win the flag.

Yeah good chance we have to beat Lions twice and Giants in a prelim to get the flag.

I think GWS win this week, but will struggle on the road next week
GWS are missing good players, Hawks are looking strong.
Could see Hawks beating or pushing the Pies agian, if Ade wins.

Are they really?

Hawthorn have a 3-7 record against fellow finalists, with two of those wins coming down in Launceston - an early season 12pt win over GWS and then a 3pt win over Adelaide in June in horrendous conditions. There only other win over a top 8 team was the 64pt smashing of Collingwood a month ago, but with Collingwood's own late season form under question

Going back to round 10, they've lost 6 of 8 matches against finalists - and with the absence of Day, I'm not sure they are as strong

Meanwhile, GWS haven't lost to a finalist since round 10 when Fremantle won at Engie - since that lost they've won 4 straight against finalists. Kelly, Hogan, Stringer & Coniglio are all expected to be given the all clear to play on Saturday

If this game was at the MCG, then I could see Hawthorn going in as favourites, but up in Sydney I've got to go with GWS as the team to beat

A prelim against either adelaide (who have a poor record at mcg) gws or hawthorn and then a GF against Collingwood or a banged up brisbane if we get that far.
It helps us if gws lose tomorrow but either way we are in the box seat to win the flag from here. Would be a failure in many ways if we dont win it from here.

I hope GWS get to us in the prelim so we can extinguish that demon for this season.

FLAG OR FAILURE 2025

While I think we can beat them they are our worst opponent. Our chances of winning the flag go up to about 90 % if either hawthorn or adelaide knock gws off.

Gws out is big.
Hawthorn or adelaide with a week off i back us against either.

Then a banged up brisbane or Collingwood who are flawed.

Have to go all the way here.

If Fremantle get up tonight, I expect them to take care of business against Brisbane next week

I would have gathered hawthorn out.

Hawthorn are very good, the MCG is their home ground and GWS are banged up.

I know its their home ground but gws power through the midfield and particularly run off half back worries me more vs us. Hawthorn it will be a tight prelim but experience wise and game plan wise we have it over them.
