How many 5 day breaks are mandated now per club per year? I thought it was only 2 but this will give us 3. How many do other clubs have during the season?

Moving our rd17 game with Port to Thursday, and swapping it with North-Bulldogs so they play on Saturday, would avoid 5 day breaks for both us and North.

Somehow we've gained more ground from our home 17 point win than our away 45 point win. We made up 0.38 expected wins from beating the Suns, and then all the models have chipped in with another 0.37 expected wins across our remaining 15 games.

We've also got back our away win against Carlton, so on an all-or-nothing basis we are currently expected to go 18-5.

We're still 2nd on Squiggle's aggregate ladder. No don't ask me how come Collingwood are 1st with less expected wins.

On aggregate we have an 83% chance of victory on Sunday. This roughly translates to a 34 point win. Suffice to say we should not expect any generous treatment from the models this round. Just need to keep banking these wins!

C'mon Grasshopper17 where's the post-North game model? :)

I don't think so. They play Carlton on Thursday night in round 16, so it'd be seven days until round 17 for them.
You are quite right. I got my rounds muddled up.

Port and Brisbane however are not Victorian clubs of course. So there's that 🤷🤦

https://www.afl.com.au/news/1320928...d-16-to-23-games-of-2025-home-and-away-season

The AFL has added three Friday night double-headers into the latest release of the fixture, in rounds 17, 20 and 23, adding more room for teams to feature in marquee timeslots.

They're marquee timeslots because they're standalone, national FTA games. Playing games over the top of each other defeats the purpose. And also makes them not double-headers.

I also notice that each 'double-header' features one all Victorian match-up and one all Non-Victorian match-up. Not hard to figure out which game will be broadcast nationally on FTA.

It's like if we asked for more games at the MCG, and the AFL scheduled us to play kick-to-kick in the carpark while Collingwood-Carlton was going on.

My final point on this:

What on earth is the point of a floating fixture if you're not even going to put Collingwood v Brisbane - 2nd v 1st - on Friday night?

I love the idea of friday double headers, and i hope they keep it. It works well if it's being played in perth (given the time difference) and it gives us options if the national game is a dud, like the last few fridays have been.

I don't think Perth Friday night games work for anyone. It's a 6.20pm start there, and an 8.20pm start here. Too early for them, too late for us.

You could push it back an hour in perth, so it airs 7:30pm there and 9:30pm here.

Yeah, I think that'd be better. And ultimately WCE and Freo home games should be about Western Australia, not us.

The AFL keeps knocking back requests for Showdowns on Friday nights, for some reason. Presumably they feel the same way about Derbies at 9.30pm. But I think it'd be great, and particularly at the back end of a real double-header, like you say.

Friday night double headers should only be a thing during daylight saving (when you can have a game start 7:10pm AEDT then 7.05pm Perth time without overlap) or on public holidays.

I think though you can bank on Lions v Hawks being the Thursday game.

That’s the main reason why we are in Perth Friday night round 23

AFL don't like back 2 backsies. A new premier each year would be good for business.
Just messing with us a bit more before finals run incase we're looking strong by then.

I missed this yesterday so these graphics take into account last night's match. We lost 0.33 expected wins by drawing with North on Sunday, and then the models reacted strongly as well, docking us another 0.35 expected wins across our final 14 games.

After last night's result we are now forecast on balance to lose to the Suns in Round 20, which in absolute terms would leave us at 16.5-6.5. This would certainly still be good enough for a top 4 spot. Whether it is good enough for a top 2 spot is probably line ball.

We're still 2nd on the aggregate ladder, although the gap to 3rd has narrowed. All the models are giving us an 81.7% chance of victory on Sunday, which equates to a winning margin of around 5 goals.
