I actually hate marquee time slots that feature the same games every year. Sure have the time slot, but rotate the teams. Just do it by ladder position the previous year.

1st v 3rd opens the season on Thursday
2nd v 4th is Easter Monday etc

We’d be way more inclined to get good games on TV and teams will be more commercially successful the better they are as opposed to minnows getting peanuts.

One of them always seems to be a cellar dweller though. Not many years when both have made the 8.

I hate the fixture because it's not traditional (they only started it in late 2000s) and is usually a mismatched game.

Yeah they barely ran the old clash. Probably be just against the teams with red Sydney, St Kilda, Essendon, Melbourne and then maybe a Brisbane and Crows

It would be a practice run for the Premiership season. Moving a home game across country to a regional city is no minor undertaking. Eagles will also need to be preparing, as its not an AFL standard oval (so no guarantees to have all the facilities you'd expect).
