Can't we just enjoy Carlton's season falling apart all by itself? We get to cheer both Hawthorn and Carlton to the bottom. Win - win.
As long as they finish above Hawthorn but because they’re shit, not because of injury. A ruptured patella tendon is a devastating season ending injury and I wouldn’t wish that on players even if we gain from it. Hope he makes a full recovery and is back next year.

Are you new to this board?

We will have pessimists constantly bumping this thread until the draft.

I’ll preface this by saying I agreed Clarke and co. choosing the Hawks pick at the time. Hindsight is wonderful and all, and I know we haven’t seen a game in anger yet…but based purely off pre-season happenings, Carlton are having a wretched run so far and look the more vunerable of the two teams currently!

I thought Carlton's picks were the clear choice tbh.

Hopefully by season's end I'm wrong.

Awful news for Jagga.

You'd think so. Hawks have one of the toughest fixtures while Carlton have the third easiest so only time will tell. I still don't think they'll finish too far away from each other. I don't think this would be like choosing Geelong's pick over North's or anything.

As much as I would like to **** the Hawks, I really hope he doesn't have any issues with his back and gets another couple of great years out of his career. Such a quality bloke, I really hope for the best for him (perhaps a B&F in a wooden spoon year in 2025).
Quality blokes don't sign contracts one Year and ask for clearance the next year.

They do if they get the raw end of the stick.
He was a bit silly signing a contract with a verbal agreement that he would take year 1 at a reduced salary and then get compensated the next couple of years. As soon as Nizzy went out the door, so did that promise. TbH I think the club did it specifically to force his hand so we had some genuine trade bait..He had every right to go get himself a better deal..A 29 year old with a crook back, he knows he probably only has a few years to make bank playing footy.
Its a business, shrewd business people arent necessarily arseholes because they are good at buisiness. I still rate him highly.

Based on what ?

I though we made the right call.
I don't see Hawks going backwards like many do.

Battle-Barrass down back means they can upgrade Chol to Sicily.

Another year into the D'Ambrosio, Newcombe, Watson types.

Will Day staying fit will be very important.

I can see Hawks being right up there. Carlton I see as a very inconsistent side with poor list depth.

Had no issues with choosing the Hawthorn picks although I do wonder if we ever considered hedging a little and choosing Carlton’s R2 and R3 picks

Or if that was given as an option

Agree but Hawks had a very easy fixture last year, which helped their cause.

I'm with you CC.

Even a few of the ones the hawks lost last year were really close ones that they should've really won.

Top 4 for mine.

Ok fair call.

We see things very differently.

Hawks get a harder draw.
More analysis and plotting will have gone into their game plan.
Improvement is rarely linear in the AFL.
They had a good end to the season and played some better teams when hit by injuries.
2024 Their last 9 games they got WC, ADL, RIC and NORTH, pretty easy run home.
Barrass - I am in a minority but I was rapt that we were able to trade him for a F1 and F2, he plays slow and is not attacking by foot, yes his aerial work is elite, but with ball on ground and man on man on the ground he is bog average.
Looking forward to watching him be lead a merry dance by Waterman.
2025 They play BRI, PORT, MLB, CAR, COL all twice and these are the teams that they will in finals contention.
Their last six games will be telling in where they finish: Last 6 games in In order- Port, Carl. ADL, COL, MLB, BRI.

I think you are underselling Carlton.
They have more finals and bigger games experience than the Hawks.
You are right that the Blues list isn't deep.
With an average run of injuries at the back end of the season they would still be a real threat.

That said I see both sides finishing 3-4 spots within each other.

Ouch, thats a very tough run of games.

I’m a hawks man but I can’t believe the eagles looked at both lists and decided to take Hawthorns picks not the blues. You can all respond now or wait 6 months but the blues are so one paced. I laughed at the time when I heard the eagles chose the hawks picks not the blues. Blues lost depth last year in Kennedy, Martin and Owies and literally brought in Jagga. He’s a gun and will be a great point of difference for them as he’s fast by foot and brain. Just can’t see how they are better this year than last and despite their easy draw think they might go 2-6 of double ups against to Hawks, Pies, Bombers, Power.

In breaking news, man thinks the team he supports is great.
