I’m a hawks man but I can’t believe the eagles looked at both lists and decided to take Hawthorns picks not the blues. You can all respond now or wait 6 months but the blues are so one paced. I laughed at the time when I heard the eagles chose the hawks picks not the blues. Blues lost depth last year in Kennedy, Martin and Owies and literally brought in Jagga. He’s a gun and will be a great point of difference for them as he’s fast by foot and brain. Just can’t see how they are better this year than last and despite their easy draw think they might go 2-6 of double ups against to Hawks, Pies, Bombers, Power.

Carlton are having some injury issues but their best 22 has more bonafide guns than Hawthorn do.

Carlton have Cripps, Curnow, Walsh, McKay (to a lesser extent)

Hawthorn don’t have players of that calibre. Sicily is probably the only out and out ‘superstar’ on your list.

Don’t get me wrong, you have players who could well be that good one day, maybe they even get to that level this season. But Cripps is a dual Brownlow medalist (rightly or wrongly - that’s a debate for another thread) and Curnow is a dual Coleman medalist. Hawthorn haven’t got anyone with those credentials.

Yes. This injury list is from the week after the game you’re referring to. A game in which Carlton lost 5 players to injury and had one player on the bench in the late stages of the game. No wonder you ‘destroyed them’. You had 4 extra players.

McKay played the game out on one leg, Curnow couldn’t continue.

Not all the names on that list are best 22 but many are. It’s clear that the respective injury lists were a factor in the result last time you played Carlton. Not the only factor, but one of them

I can understand the club justifying taking the Hawks picks:

• Came out of nowhere in 2024, won't be able to surprise teams like that again.
• great run with injuries, will be hard to replicate
• young list, higher chances of inconsistency

Harder to make a case for the Carlton picks. If anything, it's easier to make a case for Carlton rising up the ladder than having a down year.
