Opinion 2025 Hypothetical Tassie Team

Well if they kill off teams in vic, we are much better placed than saints, dees and to a lesser extent dogs

Plus this tassie team is a pipe dream for even 2025
Dogs are in a much better position than North actually.

We had 44k members to your 42k.
$51.5m revenue vs your $39.5m
$2.2m profit vs your $560k
You guys received $16.9m from the AFL while we got $16.2m
Our membership and ticket sales were $9.2m vs your $8m

Most importantly, we are the 3rd most asset-rich club with $45.8m in assets, behind West Coast and Hawthorn. North have $11.5m in assets.

In saying that, overall I think Saints are in more trouble than any other Victorian club by far. They'd be followed by Melbourne, then North, then Dogs.

But there’s no talk of killing off teams. The AFL needs 18 teams for the media/streaming deals.

Relocating one team makes much more sense. Especially as the Tassie (or any) government won’t have any cash to purchase a new licence for more than a decade, while paying off their stimulus package debts.

And North is the obvious choice with the deal and tassie academy they already have in place.

There’s going to be precious little government handouts for any sports or clubs for the foreseeable future with where our economy and government spending is headed.

With the AFL looking at a $500 million loan package, I hardly see how they could afford to invest in a Tasmanian team (which, despite a strong following in the state, wouldn't generate enough revenue to exceed the likes of the NSW and QLD teams purely because of population size and lack of concentration in one particular city).

Surely it will be delayed past 2025, which rules out Riewoldt and Brown from ever playing for them.

Tarryn Thomas seems the logical target for a marquee player when they do enter

The hardline measures that are going to be proposed to AFL clubs to make up for lost revenue are going to make the power clubs of West Coast, Collingwood, Hawks really question the viability of having clubs like North, Gold Coast, GWS constantly sucking on the tit of the AFL.

Things like massive reduction in the soft cap, reduced list sizes and potentially scrapping AFLW..

It is a myth that the AFL and clubs need 18 teams to fulfil the broadcast rights agreement... Donyou really think losing a weekly game involving Gold Coast or North is going to impact the deal so significantly? It might be slightly reduced, but it is also then spread to fewer clubs who are more likely to be better off.
