The whole league has a average of 3.44 father sons per year for all clubs combined. (124 since 1988)
How many times do gc need to get that on their own before it becomes an unfair advantage?
Rtb does have a point.
I get that gws and gc don't get these yet. But even 1 per year is far more than any other clubs get.
It looks like clubs get one father son every 5 years ish.

Personally I'd make it one academy or FS match a year.

The AFL want a local superstar in those "markets". So they will always let the Suns have a way to get the next Jed Walter.

The comp needs these academies, there are so many bad players in the league, it needs more quality, just not having one team hover them all up.

But again, the Suns have never made finals, ever. And after this year they won't be able to take multiple high picks anyway with the change in the bidding system. There will be players spilling out probably this year.

I don't mind gc and gws getting them.
Brisbane and Sydney I have more issue with as they get father sons as well.
My bias is I think it takes longer to rebuild nowadays when your second pick is in the 30s.
Imo only those two clubs should have academies no one else and some sort of limit to it on a per year or per 2 year basis as you said.
The draft is already hard enough to rebuild from with 18 teams. All these bonus picks need to stop.
Also father sons should not be accessible as academy picks. They won't be lost to the game if dad played 300 games at another club.
