Our guns to get injured in this wokey indigenous game to top things off
ken will get worried and pull them all out, maybe game time should be on the true racial percentage, that will leave a really open game in the last quarter, (its sounds racist but then again the whole event is based on race and thats meant to be a good thing, so its all become a bit too confusing, i though white v black was bad)

There isn't a team in the league that could cover injuries to 2/3 of their first choice key defenders without exposing inexperienced kids.
Agree list is balanced now, unfortunately when you are hit with multple injuries in the same area, it cant be readilly covered. Lose another kpf and we are exposed up forward as well. Its the nature of the game unfortunately.

We've got 2 key defenders out at the same time, which would stretch the resources of most teams.

It's unlucky for Esava as BZT going down was his chance to cement his spot in defence and now they're both down but let's not forget that Esava was probably struggling to fit in most peoples best 23 prior to BZT going down.

Last year we also found out that going smaller in defence works better for us. We'd been screaming out for tall KPD's for years, but when all of Allir BZT and Esava played together last year our defence was poor.

Hybrids like Bergman, Jones, Burton, Evans whilst they all struggle one on one against the big key forwards are more effective in other areas.

Finlayson is an option, he has played in defence before and is surplus in the forward line, especially if Lord or Whitlock come on. Lukosious is obviously another option too, but i think we are all in on him playing as a forward.

Walsh might be closer than we think too, and a better option for me than a Clurey that hadn't played for 2 years.

This was poor management. Any squad build ought to have at least 4 ready to go tall defender options. We had 5 last year (McKenzie and Clurey). We lost 3 tall backs (McKenzie, Clurey and K.Marshall) and brought in none.

This is a mess of our own making- much like the ruck mess a few years back.

We now have to put Marshall on the LTI list and see if we can get decent back up in our tall backs. I do not want to see:

Lukosius being forced back

Ratugolea or BZT being forced back before they’re ready

Bergman or Burton standing Thilthorpe or Curnow.

The real losers here are Watkins and Lai as the position we dangled in front of them as a carrot now has to be spent plugging the hole that was obvious the moment we finalised our delistings.

Mckenzie was cooked. Barely capable of getting on the park, so he clearly wasn't ready to go at any stage last year and i've already stated i'd rather take a punt on a kid like Walsh than someone like Clurey who besides 1 games hasn't played AFL footy since 2022. and K Marshall wasn't very good but we've kept him on as an SANFL player so he could be in line for a mid season pick if he shows something at SANFL level in the front half of the year.

You don't need to hold onto the trash.

You can always get something newer for backup

What are those options?

I still don't think being a more medium sized defence is necessarily that bad of a thing. We definitely improved when we stopped playing all of Allir, BZT and Esava in defence last year.

That’s not the point- point is if you get rid of tall backs, you bring in tall backs. We didn’t and now we pay for it.

Wonder how Kyle Marshall has progressed in the last 6 months?

Think you give first crack to Lai, move Marshall to LTI and bring in a key back, pending Rats recovery possibly move him to LTI and reward Watkins mid season.

Yeah, it wasn't the best from list management.

I mean, we have 9 small to medium forwards on the list.

We also had 4 picks inside the Top 50 so we could've grabbed one.

It is just another symptom of Hinkley unable to develop key position players biting us back on the bum.

At what price? Last time we picked up 2 key defenders this board lost its shit because we overpaid and are still going on about those trades.

And it’s highly unlikely we are going to be able to draft a ready made key defender. Say for instance we got whitlocks twin Matt instead of Jack because he plays key defence, it’s a stretch to say he can come in and have an impact straight away.

So to bring in someone ready made you either pay the price or you have a crack at free agency. Which we did, albeit neither cumming or Perryman were key defenders.

Having 2 key defenders go down in a week is unlucky, but I don’t think our depth chart is horrible and I’m not sure what our other options were.

For me our forward line was our main area of concern last year, which we addressed in the draft and trade period.

Our tall defenders list are:

Aliir Aliir
Brandon Zerk-Thatcher
Miles Bergman
Xavier Walsh

That's quite a drop off.

It really shows that an injury or even moving Bergman into the midfield makes things very difficult.

Esava seems to have been the guy who was going to cover for a tall being out but he played badly in defence and was moved to being a forward with similar results last year.

Finny could be next in line but if they have confidence in Walsh, I would throw him in and see how the young fella goes.

In the coming years, replacing Aliir will be of the utmost importance.

Chris Davies says [emoji640]-[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]] weeks out for Ratugolea.

That’s not too bad. If that is true he will not miss many games but he is missing a vital training block and pre season games to actually test where he best fits in the team, which will hurt more.

Have they given a timeline on BZT?
