If the offer comes and TDK blinks, then we bank the money and use it for our own free agent. I have a feeling Hudson O'Keeffe is coming fast.

Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
Weitering certainly doesn'tA good lockdown key back needs pace off the mark. Does JSOS have that first 5m burst?
There will also be a more than capable player on the ruck merry-go-round that would love to be our #1 for a fraction of what TDK is being offered. Our own personal Lloyd Meek, if you will. A very strong case could be made that this strategy is better for our long-term list health than re-signing TDK to a big contract. If the offer comes and TDK blinks, then we bank the money and use it for our own free agent. Strongly disagree.Let’s be clear Kruz and H were/are good afl players but nowhere near the cc fev
Judd kouta and Cripps level
I treat TDK as an extra midfielder so happy to pay midfielder moneyThere will also be a more than capable player on the ruck merry-go-round that would love to be our #1 for a fraction of what TDK is being offered. Other clubs don’t know our cap and have their own cap to worry about.
It is common knowledge our big sign ons in recent years have taken less to stick together.
What’s in the media is pure and utter fantasy.
If TDK gets a grandfather offer and takes it so be it, but it’s not because saints know how much room we have, it’s because they are desperate to be relevant.

Also need to consider although clubs may have a good idea of the value of the contract they would have no idea of how that is being structured over the term of the contract.Disagree. With respect, I wouldn't be that naïve. Perhaps not down to the exact dollar but all smart clubs (within List Management) would have a fairly acute understanding of other club's approx cap space. They are in daily dialogue with all the various player managers, other list managers etc.
I would be almost certain we, along with every other club, would have a known/close estimate of every current AFL players' salary on a spreadsheet. I know for a fact one big Melbourne based club does.
Pretty simple then to form an assessment of each club's TPP.
I am reading a list management strategy under our current team. Your final sentence is a pre cursor to what I think we are going to see.Important distinction to make. St Kilda have not offered TDK anything yet. They have leaked to a media mouthpiece that they are considering a ridiculously high offer. This is gamesmanship from SOS, if St Kilda were a genuine chance of getting him, they'd be having quiet conversations with his management and doing as much as possible to keep it under wraps to avoid driving up offers from other clubs. They're not. They're trying to shift the conversation from "Is TDK worth $1mil a season" to "Is TDK worth $1.5mil a season" by way of throwing out media reports of $1.7mil.
SOS's plan will be to try and drive up what we have to pay to keep him, by whatever margin he can, in the hopes that it will help shake loose a Brodie Kemp type.
We have been pretty good at times but not good enough to win a premiership. Too many holes and not enough list depth. I've been saying it for years, the midfield is too one paced and terrible with it's defence and pressure and the forward line lacks a hell of a lot. We are just like a lot of other teams who are good but not that good. Our style comes from the personnelle we have, that's not a planned thing. We have been good enough for chunks of two seasons but have been ground down by injuries and then our style also grinds us by season end as it is significantly stoppage and pack mark based.
I think everything plays second fiddle to improvement in goal efficiency which is effectively improved transition resulting in easier overlap goals. We need these easier goals to lessen the physical impact on bodies by finals.
For mine, this is on Voss and the MC. That's where we get our best injection of improvement.
Yes, everyone is trying to improve. If our youth don't come through the only way we can go is backwards. The team is not premier quality but it can be, it's not far off. Recruitment has been good and has focused on the missing pieces.Generally every club rejuvenate, its standard list management. Playing youth isn't the priority strategy to go to another level
Nope, playing new recruits and position changes were mentioned. The only changes you mention is playing youth, there is way more many aspects to improve as a whole
Not fully irrelevant. Our previous teams demonstrate where the improvement is needed.Last few seasons is irrelevent, clubs make around 9 changes a year, essentially a full list in 5 years
They will be fine, just my judgement. Some will be reserve players but decent quality ones which is much needed. Many of the "youth" you mention haven't even found consistency at VFL, unless thier output has improved dramatically in 1 off season, they aren't playing ahead of established players
It was a good decision to bit the bullet and let those guys go. We had a too many project players and injury prone players on the list. Made it very hard.I like the list changes too, especially moving on injury prone types
The only midfielder on our list who matches Lord's pressure is Walsh. We have seen so many sides win flags by prioritising closing speed and pressure quality and ours is really poor. We make up for it by being good offensively but when we are beaten or matched offensively we look terrible. We know this, this is why we recruited Lord. What I like about him is he is also strong offensively. He's impressive. That's a stretch, he isn't miles ahead, but the signs have been extremely encouraging
From the small sample I have seen, his spread from the contest is very good and much better than Hewett, though I can't remember what Hewett was like as a younger player.I wouldn't call him a spread player, I see him as a young Hewett
We made some much much worse selections and he had just come of a really good offensive and defensive game. It was dumb, there is nowhere to hide for us in that final, selections were a trainwreck. Either way we were never going to win but could have done a little better and got some experience into some.On the back of no real preseason, and only finding consistency late in tge VFL season, he wasn't a lock, nor would 1 player be the difference in that final
Lord and Smith will be. They will bring a lot of things to the team that the team is really weak with. Closing speed, chasing pressure and ball carrying. Two players who can bring these qualities makes a very big difference. We are weak here but a little lift goes a long way for us.It's why other factors are more important, such as continuity, gameplan, tactics, etc
Doubt it, I was at the game and 1 player wasn't changing that result
Don't think he is a difference maker, it will take a whole team approach
Wilson won't be best 22 but will likely play games and may ask questions of whether he should be in or not. Has talent. This is important.I've seen this all preseason, it's a fallacy, just like Wilson jumping ahead of other established players, on the back of inconsistent VFL form, and a preseason of non combative match sims
It's hard to know without seeing the match sim. Speed and pressure need to come from somewhere. Walsh, Lord and Smith I think bring it and will be important. I think Hewett will play but I'm not 100% yet but I would have him in the side. But we need what Lord brings badly, we aren't a shot at it without upping our pressure.I think they both Hewett and Lord play in the same side and or based on early season form, but I'd be shocked if Hewett didn't start the season
Disagree. With respect, I wouldn't be that naïve. Perhaps not down to the exact dollar but all smart clubs (within List Management) would have a fairly acute understanding of other club's approx cap space. They are in daily dialogue with all the various player managers, other list managers etc.

40% more than Cripps / Walsh? Hmm not sure about ruck v mid classification. Would rather the draft or balance sheet capital.I treat TDK as an extra midfielder so happy to pay midfielder money
What is this?View attachment 2220289
Sydney made a GF with the 3rd lowest average pressure ratings Collingwood didnt make finals with the highest pressure ratings. Brisbane won a flag with lower pressure ratings as with all averages take them with an inch of salt.

Jagga was in the top handful of players in the match sim last Friday and he’s a first year player.
No doubt in my mind he’s gonna make it, good to hear the club see it the same way. Thanks X for the info
Goes to show how much SOS ****ed us picking Dow.I don’t think a club trades out future picks to upgrade to a top 3 pick if that player wasn’t going to be something special.I think we may just have that.

Wouldn't pay Gawn that money, and TDK along way off that sort of sustained performance.
Not that I believe the veracity of numbers being thrown around. He stays on a sensible deal is my call.
Once upon a time I would have frowned on that comment. The Geelong land rorts lead me to welcome any initiatives “topping up” our player packages. If it is good for the goose, it is good for the gander… ( Makes a mockery of our brown paper bag penalties)Job at Visy 0.5 hours a day after training, 4 days a week...
