The worst move of the Sos list management era was trading away a future first for Stocker. That’s the sort of move you do to get an elite mid instead we got a bloke who can barely run out a game playing as a back pocket. It also cost us Young or Serong in the next year’s draft.
Absolutely…

And what about the fist pumping 🤦‍♂️

Let's say TDK leaves...

I think we will not go hard at FA this year so as to bank the compo pick.

But we free up a large chunk of salary cap space to go hard at a player or two in next year's FA period... Some names below, all of which I think fill a need and fit the right age profile of our list for 2027:
Noah Answerth RFA
Zac Bailey RFA
Corey Wagner UFA
Patrick Voss UFA
Gryan Miers RFA
Mark O'Connor UFA
Jack Buckley RFA
Kieran Briggs RFA
Dylan Moore UFA
Tom Sparrow RFA
Zak Butters RFA
Jack Ross RFA
Justin McInerney RFA
Baku Khamis RFA
Rhylee West RFA

Who would you target?

Would LOVE to add a Miers and/ or Moore. I rate Khamis as well but hus form can also be hit and miss.

If TDK leaves we need to get busy plugging gaps for 2026.
2 off-seasons with only Haynes to show for it won’t cut it for improvement against other teams recruiting.
Waiting for previous draftees to shine may be more on the L/T view.

I just cant see how we do it.
We have minimal 2025 draft capital, even after a potential TDK compo pick is received.
Need to retain 2026 picks for FS and academy picks.

We'd need to expell more than just TDK but don't see who;
A) We'd be willing to trade out, and;
B) Holds sufficient trade capital

Is this year the first year of trading picks from 2 years in advance?

There’s always ways and you need to get creative.

Off-field changes can help, or hinder (I.e. see fitness this year?). If we could improve our skills across the board as a targeted approach, then that’s another X amount of change to assist.
JSOS you could class as another recruit with the positive change of scenery down back + return from a full year out.

Yes, believe so re: advance years picks but we’re prepping for CW1 + this years crop of F/S, Academy.

Totally agree with you - we need to start adding more ready made talent to the list. It's just going to be a challenge whilst juggling FS + academy IMO. Hopefully Austin can get creative enough to get it all done.

Ask your mates who know a bit about footy and most will say the same, Carlton are a nice club who don’t make hard decisions. It’s why we don’t have success.
Maybe, maybe not, but that's a whole other topic.

The first challenge of course is to agree on what counts as a hard decision. Which is harder, sacking a coach or keeping them? etc. I don't know we need to make harder decisions per se, I'd settle for just making better ones.

Sacking the coach is not the answer.
Players execution & IQ improvement is the relevant point.

How good was that game today in terms of keeping TDK at home where he belongs?
We beat his brother's team and the 'Aints got smashed as well.
I may not be a professional footballer but he looked fully invested in Carlton today.
All of the TDK contract stuff is media driven. The AFL is a media company so their actors (the journos and talking heads) are just creating a narrative. It’s a great story line about ex club great SOS trying to pinch a player from his old club as it is TDK joint his brother in Geelong coz he loves surfing. I highly doubt he’s weighing up what to do based on how Geelong and St Kilda play that round.

It was great to see how we played today and i really feel we have tried to be more free flowing and run the ball more aggressively out of defence and it was great to see Harry and Charlie play well as a a duo.

The poor start has rattled me and i think TDK will go which will give us a solid pick at least but, what if he doesnt?

I and many others think we have little tradable assets to strengthen the best 22, especially considering Cody Walkers expected top 5 status, but im wondering if this is a too negative view.

With the possibility of trading future picks 2 years ahead now, what’s stopping us trading our F1 or F2 for a player of need or a pick this year and then using futures to make up any shortfall due to the Walker bid?

It’s easy to say trade player A or B but when you have quality players in big positions, it seems a bit dumb to trade them, so find a way to build around them.

If we happen to salvage this season and keep the players together, we need to be aggressive at the trade table, we need to compliment the players we have, if that means going in to deficit at the 2026 draft, that’s ok.

How the rest of the season goes will dictate what happens in the off season for sure. For instance losing TDK if we finished bottom 2 wouldn't look so bad in terms of what we'd be getting back via compo. Losing TDK if we finished in the 8 would look like an absolute disaster however.

Pick 3 vs Pick 10+

Lots to play out though and still plenty of cheap options around that could improve our list without costing the world.

We have Jagga Smith coming back as well. Effectively a no3 pick coming on board next season

Chris Scott’s comment about TDK makes me think the Cats are right up to their eyeballs in the chase. Which is good news for us, because I don’t think they will be able to offer St Kilda type money. If the Cats’ offer is not far ahead of ours, we should be able to match and force a trade.

Pls make it make sense and spitball a trade acceptable to the reasonable majority on this forum (cough).

No aged “star”, no vfl “star” and no one-paced plodders pls.

Need to keep winning & TDK to keep dominating and I think he will stay.

There's a hell of a lot of endorsement money to made for a 6'8, handsome, blonde bombshell elite athlete.

Surely a Nike, Adidas, Bonds or Visy will pick up the $700k p/a difference.

We can match and force a trade even with St. Kilda’s offer.

It’s not that we can’t meet their offer, it’s just a matter of weighing up whether it would be responsible list management to do so.

I really don't see how they could be. Unless they're expecting quite a number of retirements.

Even more than that, that's not really the Geelong ethos. They're far more likely to trade for Pittonet (like a Rhys Stanley) than they are to blow big coin on a ruckman.
