Really annoys me that people here were stating Cottrel was out for the season weeks ago, yet we still only took one player in the MSD.

Why wouldn’t we try and have a look at someone? What harm could it have done?

In the two weeks since the MSD we have Cottrel ruled out for the season and Hollands reported as out for the season.

Crap by Austin
How in any way is that Austin’s fault? If it is true that is. Sounds like you just have it in for Austin

I would swap Tdk for NWM In a heartbeat his class and his manager would want more than what they are offering Tom

The rumours from their negotiations is that they've offered NWM about half of what they've offered TDK.

Says more about where that offer has come from than it does each individual player if you ask me

I do have Austin in the gun no doubt, people were posting here weeks ago that Cotts was likely out for the season, Austin would have and should have been aware of the status of his or anyone else’s injury status.

The draft was two weeks ago and he took just the one pick, at the time Newman was still listed as out for the season, fast forward 2 weeks and we potentially have 4-5 players not coming back.

Now I wouldn’t have anticipated 4-5 players to miss the remainder of the year but to assume we’d go the rest of the year with no vacancies on the LTI list was dumb.

Austin’s management of the list deserves just as much scrutiny as Voss coaching

All I needed to know

Not sure what you mean here. If Gresham, ISON or Clarke get through the ND, then they can be listed on the Cat B rookie list.

If they are added to the VFL list like I think you’re suggesting, then adding to the list would require taking them in an upcoming draft.
I understand the process of it, i was more thinking from the Irish boys side if the club thinks they are worth persevering with, which I’d say they would…

I would presume then the club is looking after them from a contract of stability and financial standpoint, looking after 2 young men you have from over the other side of the world would be the right thing to do…

If any of our NGA’s aren’t drafted we/they have the option to take up a reserves list contract, and develop…

Haynes would be top 5 in our B&F right now. Has to get another contract.
It’s been a dramatic shift to our defensive stocks with Haynes and Jack doing so well and HOF showing such promise. A far cry to what we expected before this season.

I suppose it shows how quick things can turn around.

EDIT: And Dean possibly coming onboard and promising.

Our window is really only open for 1-2 years if that. Got to be bold, look at mutually beneficial trades and getting 3-5 semi mature players in who are ready for seniors like 95.

GW should be appointing a few extra scouts now and begin strategic plans as of now for list, trades and drafting.
Tbh this whole window thing changes every year

Pies window closed in 24 and opened again this year. Same with Adelaide. Unless you are in a rebuild stage I think it’s different year to year now

Hun
BLUES’ WAR GAMING DE KONING CALL
Carlton is running a dual list strategy as it awaits Tom De Koning’s decision on whether he stays at the club or takes up a mind-blowingly lucrative offer from St Kilda. The Blues have set no deadline on a TDK decision, but Moneyball understands they have strong contingency plans in place just in case. It means they are already in the marketplace for trade and free agency acquisitions for later this year, as De Koning mulls over the Saints’ stunning $1.7m per season offer over seven years. One of those players who could be in the mix is contracted Magpie big man Darcy Cameron, who is seeking a new deal with Collingwood.

Just for thoughts
The young next gen carlton kinda might look like this

Cowan Hof Carroll
O Hollands Dean Wilson
Walsh Cerra Binns
E Hollands Lemmey Moir
Motlop ? Kemp

Hok Jagger B Camporeale

Lord L Camporeale Durdin Charleston

What people think of the next wave ?
Any positions need attention in there that gets replaced or drafted for, FF for example

Snuck Dean and Jagga in there, also Cerra and Walsh its meant to be under 25 24 or so
Just playing around
I think there's a pretty good good group there, add in draft and trades to it with maturity

Which is precisely why I'd prefer to essentially head back to the draft.

In 1993 we were a club that every man and his dog wanted to play for, in a competition still working out the draft system. We had a core of about 16 champion to very solid players, at least handful of them all-time greats.

In 2025 we have a trade system less stacked in our favour, a list with one all-time great who is past his best, one or two others who could be 'goats' but aren't and a small handful of others who are very solid players.

It's not a flattering comparison and the odds are against us getting the required players in just two years, and certainly not at a price that won't jeopardise our future chances.

How many small forwards have been offered $12 million dollar contracts?
Let alone non free agents, who are already contracted, and you’re not poaching them, they’re already at your club?

Is Tim Lamb making that offer out of spite?
Is he deliberately sabotaging the Dees?
Kossie has actually shown something. A game changer. TDK is not. Regularly beaten by the oppo ruck on a fraction of his wanted salary.
We’d be better off with an electrifying forward / mid than TDK (see ruckman overpaying rule).

Scenario 3: TDK accepts Carlton's offer (ie. TDK's decision is loyalty-motivated)

This is what I answered to

Yes, but why? I Never suggested he had to show loyalty, only that staying at Carlton would likely be driven by a sense of loyalty or mateship. St Kilda are hitting the "make money" button, while Geelong have a stronger case on potential for success and the draw of playing with his brother...not to mention that as an avid surfer, the lifestyle out that way would also be appealing.

The appeal for staying is loyalty to the club, loyalty to his teammates, or maaaybe at a stretch a reticence to take the risk on a move elsewhere.

the whole lot of them should be in the gun...

We should be challenging, not struggling to avoid bottom 4!

3 Player types in my view we need to get after this off season. In this order.

Elite kicking outside mid/wing. Compliment our contested ball dominant team, and deliver into f50 to our advantage.

Marking hff. Jack Martin replacement. Kemp is not that guy. Understand the BF link.

Half back flank with either and elite long kick or power athlete who can run and carry.

I'm pleased that Tom sat down with Wright to discuss the club's future. It's a good move.

Naturally, all stakeholders at the club alike (players, coaches, staff, sponsors, supporters, etc.) have serious questions about what lies ahead, especially someone like Tom, who's facing a pivotal decision about his career, no matter where he lands.

He'd surely have questions for St Kilda too. If he signs their reported big-money deal, how will they build a competitive list around him? With so much salary cap tied up, and given their lackluster season, they're clearly more than one player away from contending.

Honestly, if St Kilda lock him into that massive contract, I'd be more worried for them than for us.

As for sign-and-trade ideas if he leaves, that's wishful thinking. Most likely, we'll contemplate trading the compensation pick we get, but if he signs with St. Kilda it'll be on a contract that damages the likelihood of long-term success. He'll do it with a heftier wallet than if he stays (or goes elsewhere).

+ players who are a threat to kick goals (either hybrid fwd/mid or small forwards)

Agree but before the end of the season I would like to see a significant change in how we play...in particular our f50 entries...

As of now, change the game plan to a modern style and instruct/practice/strongly police our f50 entries to the point where if during the game a player mindlessly blazes away/dump/hack/long bombs it into f50 said player gets dragged to the bench and cops and earful from the coach - if they recommit the same offence they get subbed from the game and automatically omitted from next game. They only return once they've demonstrated consistently that they think about their kicks into f50 at VFL level over 3 consecutive games. This rule applies to ALL players!

Once this happens we can then decide if "Kemp is not that guy" or any other player for that matter does not fit our new game style.

Then we go and find the missing pieces - trade/draft etc
