It has been mentioned already but I honestly believe that we should be resting our players throughout the year.
We have quality depth in midfield and half forward/back lines. These areas should be racking high rotation numbers either in game to provide rest or over the season to ensure a full squad availability.
Plus we have plenty of players in these positions who can easily be picked each week but due to limited positions must play reserves.
There is definitely a case for a settled team structure but players should be monitored (based on effective team play) not on stats or rep alone.

The other aspect of our game plan is for the midfield to kick more goals. In our hey days, that is where a significant amount of our score came from. I believe this would sow doubt into our opponents and allow C & H better opportunities.
Our mids need to honor leads by other forwards as well. It appears this is being considered as Match sims show shorter passes forward rather than loooong bombs to a contest.

I agree with you but you need two things working for you to be able to rest players
1. You need to be winning. If you are constantly playing for your finals spot then every game becomes a must win.
2. Funnily enough you need to be fit. It becomes difficult to rest players if you already have a handful of injuries because then you no longer have depth because they are already playing.

Fingers crossed for abit of luck this season

Very interesting conversation the other day with someone very much inside the club about TDK.

They love him. Great person, immense talent and they all believe he is a genuine matchwinner and could be as good as any ruck going around. Perfect world he would play as sole ruck

The question mark is very much around resilience. He doesn't take the knocks well and really pulls up sore after rucking by himself. The way he plays leaves him "open" to a lot of hits and injuries. More than most

They are really working on how they manage him this year along with some technical stuff to better protect himself. Sometimes he will ruck by himself, sometimes Pittonet will play and TDK will play forward. It will be more about getting through season the best he can than best line up each week. Even little thing like Silvagni or Young taking some ruck to give him a breather

O'Keefe they really like but don't want to rush him if not needed
That is interesting. He does spend a lot of time injured.

Thing about him is he throws his body around pretty hard. He hits bodies a lot harder than the other rucks do. So his bruising is probably going to be deeper.

I'd like to see McKay ruck a little more and DeKoning go forward a bit more. Manage minutes a bit better. I think the lions got it right with Daniher. McKay is quite a talented ruckman.

I'm not keen to see both rucks. DeKoning as third tall forward is too tall and it hurts us defensively. Not sure after a reco if Silvagni rucking is overly appealing but will leave that one to the experts.

Definitely need to manage TDKs minutes though, that's spot on.

Left-field one but what about Kaine Baldwin from the dons? KPD with a lot of talent, just had a tough run with injury last year.

I feel like he’ll miss out on getting the nod in front of Tom Edwards who snagged 4 today.

I haven't been here for a while and the "Bluemor" section appears to be closed down. I hear from a fairly reliable source that TDK is sought by the Swans at $1.8M beyond an apparent Saints offer of $1.7M.

My belief is that we need to strengthen our midfield and TDK, clearly GOOD may become a 'Grundy' that we discard like a Collingwood once the toil of the battery incurred ruck after 25 years old.

Can he be traded for Warner?

He might well be the Jerry McGuire and complete us.

Pretty sure TDK is going to stay and tell both the Swoons and the Stains to stick their 1.8m where the sun don’t shine. Tempt me not, he will say. There’s more than money at stake when you are playing in the famous CFC jumper on GF day for a medal 🥇 round your neck and a shiny cup to drink beer out of.

Right call. I've seen enough. Our best ruck, and hopefully at the end of this year - the best in the AFL.
Agreed. In todays footy you need to be versatile and TDK is about as versatile as you can get for a big man.

With the 6-6-6 rule, it is such a large advantage having virtually another midfielder at each center bounce. That alone makes him invaluable, then you compound that with his ability to go forward and kick goals. He's a great proposition who is only just beginning to hit his peak.

Don’t mind the TDK deal.

But we’ve got a few too many million dollar long term deals on the books.

Can’t recall any premiership sides that had a list as top heavy as ours.

I hope it works… but we are 100% committed to this list until 2030.

Walsh next I bet.

Cue all the opposition nuffies whinging about our salary cap....obviously they know better than Austin, Cook and Wright :drunk:

Good call by the club, and good list management to be able to table an offer like that.

We've hit the draft pretty heavily over the past few years, so have kids on fairly basic salaries. Combine that with the players we've brought in over the past few years like Elijah, Acres, Orazio and Haynes who would also be on fairly modest contracts - as well as players we've locked in recently like Durds, Lord, Cottrell etc (you could even throw Young, Gov and Pitto into that lot) - all would have re-signed on fairly basic contracts. Plus, we moved on a contracted Kennedy this year, and Fisher last year, which freed up even more cash by replacing them with draftees.

And if we believe anything we read in the media, Owies was asking for more than we were prepared to offer - which may have been a factor in letting him walk.

And the offer to TDK of a million per year over 7 years isn't over the top when you factor in the increase in TPP's in oncoming years. If he chooses to chase the big bucks others are rumored on offer from other clubs, then good luck to him - but personally, I think he'll sign on after a bit of fine tuning between his agent and the club.

I also agree with other posters that SOS probably suspects he'll re-sign, but we'll likely have to let one or two other uncontracted players go at the end of 2025...and he has his beady little eyes set squarely on Brodie Kemp as it currently stands.

Pretty obvious that this deal will be structured in such a way as to fit our other big long term deals in.

Worth keeping in mind that a bunch of our prior big deals are almost done/ are done.

McGovern, Martin, Williams, Cerra, Hewett, Saad, will probably all be on less now

If we're looking to the future our pay brackets should look something along the lines of this. Obviously open to change.

(Genuine star players)
Tier 1 - Charlie, Harry, Weiters, Walsh, TDK, Cody, Jagga

(Very good but not quite stars)

Tier 2 - Cerra, O'Farrell, Elijah, Moir

(High quality Role players)

Tier 3 - Cowan, Motlop, Ollie, Carroll, Lord, Kemp, LCampo, BCampo, JSOS

(Role players)

Tier 4 - Ison, Fogarty, Durdin, Wilson, Boyd, Binns, Cottrell

(Who the hell knows)

Tier 5 - Charleson, Lemmey, O'Keefe, Duffy, Monahan

Seems like a pretty good spread. I'd imagine in the next 2-3 years we'll start looking at replacing some players like Hewett and Saad etc with other quality players from other clubs via trade or FA. Ideally 1-2 more in that Tier 2 bracket.

Cerra Saad and particularly Hewett are all on relatively modest contracts from reports…
