Reason why we get Marshall & Steele off the books
Yep - I think the list strategy is quite clear - amass the best array of talent under 26 that will then stay together for at 4 to 5 years with the ultimate aim being the 2nd Saints premiership.

And the closer we get to that goal, the more likely it is that a group that has united together wont ask for overs when the time comes and end up jeopardising all that effort.

Whatever happens with nwm its just more proof that the afl have destroyed the comp with free agency , f/s, academies, compromised drafts etc etc....
All they give a shit about is $$$$$.
Expanding the game in the northern states where 99% of people there couldn't give a stuff about afl .at the expense of foundation victorian clubs.

This joint is absolutely cooked , the amount of rubbish getting posted at the moment is at all time high levels, there must be about 50 people with contacts at the club judging by the amount of " Iv heard , I'm told posts.
Everyone so desperate to known as the king :rooster: of Big footy.
Someone even went out on a limb and said he is waiting until the end of the season , that's outrageous
When is he Gunnar announce it

Different people in the club have different roles/access to different info, I’m the first one to say take my info with a grain of salt and I think I’ve even recently said no intel is guaranteed or can be guaranteed it won’t change.

I would also never claim to be an ITK as I’m not.

My other source never said “he has signed for 4 years”, as I said he was confident it was going that way so I didn’t post anything on here until I heard more and nothing eventuated.

I’ll keep any new info from here on out to myself though.

Keep bringing your positive vibes to the forum 👍
I will keep posting my thoughts and views , you keep posting your :poo: if that's what makes you happy

IMO he’s been as good as Howard at any point for us, I still think most teams have a place for a monster lock down fullback.

Good discussion though, I agree.

Caminiti is still 2 years younger than wilkie was when he started big league footy.

He's never even had a single pre-season as a backman yet has he?

He's tracking great

What started as a concern for me over losing Nas is slowly shifting into concerns around us overpaying to keep a player who doesn’t truly want to be here. Then two years down the track before we’ve even hit our premiership window, he's out the door and we’re back in the same drama we are experiencing now. Not to mention the potential overpayment having salary cap ramifications on who we can attract and can keep.

Not saying that’s the path we’re on although it’s definitely in the back of my mind.

The majority of successful teams over a sustained period are able to stay competitive because players accept 'unders' to stay where as it feels we are going in the opposite direction...

Yet Geelong paid heaps to chase Jeremy Cameron at massive money at the time. Getting your hands on a top 10 AFL player is near impossible. Developing your own is the only way. If he is worth less than TDK who is a B to B+ ruck then we have lost the plot.

If we are paying overs for average players and letting elite talent go over loose change we are crazy.

I find it amazing that even when you have had some absolute donkey on ignore for nearly two years that he still cant help himself by trying to wind me up with his Disagree thumbs down every second post i put up , How about you just grow up you clown .
Yeah , you know who you are

They also got Bailey Smith easily across the line.

Saints have the potential to be as big as Geelong, just have to keep our players, have a bit of luck and get the AFL to change their drafting rules.

I think a $2 mill contract makes it very difficult to put together a top 4 quality list let alone a premiership list.

It means that we have to be super disciplined elsewhere. No OTT contracts for guys like TDK and Aleer. It just means we need to be more creative with our additions. Most of the players we are chasing is more about optics than list quality. Plenty cheaper rucks that would rush for opportunity as a first ruck.

I’m still strangely optimistic that he will sign with us. Might be clutching at straws but I feel like the radio silence works in our favour here. If Port were more in the loop I feel like there would be more media links. Nobody seems to know anything which leads me to believe it’s currently just St Kilda and Ben Williams. The current state of play there is unknown. Hopefully we hear of a breakthrough soon because it’s just utterly painful being in limbo like this

Multiple rumours from different people suggest we sign him for 2 years. I'm holding onto hope for that reason alone. To me the hold up will be SOS trying to maintain his fighting fund and lowball him compared to Port or Crows.

Crows extending ROB and still being I the race for Draper - with the pitch for him to spend some time forward - would indicate that perhaps they’re gonna wrap Tex up which removes the potential barrier for Nas to go there

I cannot see them losing Butters? I mean what’s the point? 1 star player out, one star player in. Where’s the net gain?
They’re going to be doing everything they can to retain him AND get Nas.
Which does not bode well for us compensation-wise at all.

No disrespect to Butters, he's top level, A grade, a top mid in the comp type but there are a lot of those in AFL. What there aren't many of is the absolute champions. Bont, Danger, Buddy, Ablett types are a level above those types.

Nas isn't there yet but even a person with very basic knowledge of the game can see that he has the raw potential in him to be in that frame and probably as soon as next year. He's 22 and already in rare air. Probably only Naicos has the same level of potential as him at a similar age.

You back yourself to send Nas, Burgoyne, JHF and Willem Drew with a few rotation from guys like Wines and Bergman to round it out.

Butters and Nas would be nice but they are pretty well stacked and would have a good mix inside and outside. It actually looks dynamic and dominant.

Are we sad if we miss out on Worpel because of Nas?

Really don't need him if we keep Nas. Phillipou, Nas, Garcia, Boxshall, Travaglia, Windhager, Wilson, Macrae, Steele, Dow, Carroll etc. That's pretty big pool of mids. Probably grab another too.and assume that Clark is moved to HB and Jones delisted. The game is moving away from multiple inside mids to a more dynamic model.

Boxshall, Dow and Carroll are all capable of doing Worpels role.

Worpol is a better more consistent player than all of them but he's real meat and potatoes. He's a clearance beast and no much else. You can't carry many of those in one side. Better to play Macrae until a kid pushes him out.

I'm convinced Nas has agreed to stay multiple times, hence the "itks", all spouting that it'll be announced soon.

And then it's Ben Williams who keeps saying nah uh $100k more please. Which is his job. An annoying grub. But he's doing his job. Ben Williams took a risk in not signing midseason, And it's paid off.

It explains why Ross was so tired of the questioning post game, and why Nas was awkward in that Sarah Jones interview.
