re: Windhager. Can’t see any world in which he leaves. Saints academy player, loyal fella, great mates at the club, loved by the coach and a big part of club marketing.

Clearly we’ve got plenty of cash. Seems just standard negotiation to eke out another $50k-$100k per year or an extra year.

Logically being held up by the NAS deal. Not worth losing any sleep over.

If we need a bottom 6 finish, to get an easy draw, in order to play finals - we don't deserve to play finals
We obviously don’t need it, but I think it’s fair to say it’s frustrating being in no man’s land (middle 6 team, not playing finals) especially when perhaps half your wins come at the very end of the season… barely scraping wins over the likes of Melbourne, north, Richmond… an injury ravaged bombers?

And there are pretty sizeable inequities in the fixturing. It’s not the be all end all but it can add up… or you can be like Carlton and choke every season despite really favourable draws.

If we win 10 games this season, we are only one of a small handful of clubs who have won at least 10 games every season in the 2020s. It’s just peculiar being a saints fan, I think we are truly the most no man’s land team of this decade so far given our ability to beat the best and lose to the worse and be decent year in year out without really making any marks or being a threat. I’m very optimistic about the direction we’re going in, but yes, it’s frustrating being the middle man team.

Uh, no kidding. Manufactured inequities.

Prime example, GCS who finished next to us on the ladder last season.
Take a little peak at their fixture - especially the first 6-8 weeks, in comparison to ours this season.

Hey Sainters, apologies for the intrusion. Just wanted to ask about Marcus Windhager, and what the story is with him?

An ITK linked him to us on our board (tenuous really, but this is BigFooty after all) and didn't really think anything of it. Seems a loyal kid, NGA graduate, etc etc.

Seen that he's still un-signed though, and just wondering what's happening? Is he just holding out for some more $$$ after a great patch of form, or is he actually a danger of leaving?

Would appreciate any insight.
Cheers.

A poster on Saintsaitional tonight suggested that Nas signed a 4-year deal today. They heard this information 3rd or 4th hand, and it remains unverified.

Local boy, best mates at the club, loyal, part of our next generation (not meaning academy) and immensely talented. So SOS and co lowballed him. Hopefully just testing market to use in negotiations but we have absolutely fumbled the ball with him. Apparently we did a presentation to Nas about our future 18 and didn’t include Windy - all speculation.

If he and Nas leave, RSEA Park may be in trouble. Together with Pou and Hugo, they are the heart and soul of our rebuild.

Occams Razor, the ceo said 2 days ago that deal would take time.

Would be surprised if he signed the next day (on a Sunday)
About the only reason I would give that rumor any credibility is that "4 years" sounds logical. Pitch would be a genuine shot at a flag and that is not happening in 2 years and in 4 years Nas would have close to half his career left to spend back in SA if he wanted.

Otherwise, the failure to announce yet has me leaning toward he's going.

To me, he is gone. I hope I’m wrong and look like a silly pessimist. Just can’t think of a good reason he’d be dragging at this point with offers on the table. Been my favourite player the bulk of these last four years. Devastating. But I don’t see a path and I’m tired of reading 30 pages a day looking for hope.
I agree. I think he's gone as well

I wouldn’t get to excited off 4 hand information. It’s starting to get a real stink about it so I hope it’s true

Yah, that’s what I’m talking about it’s BS. It feels like every season in the last 5 years you’d look at the fixture and be like huh, how could GC and Carlton not make the finals with a favourable draw like this?

You’d have to do some mental gymnastics to conclude that they weren’t two teams the afl had a vested interest in getting up and about.

After the saints game on Saturday I attended Carlton suns that night. Gonna say two obvious statements here, hardly a suns fan in site but I’ve got respect for their cheer squad. Their actual squad it’s hard to look at without feeling like it is manufactured and knowing they’re supposedly getting another 3 top 10s this year. And well the Carlton fans? The most feral in the league, I’ve not been to a Carlton game where I’ve not seen a Carlton fan abusing the players, they’re the epitome of entitlement, it’s actually disgusting. All clubs have fans like that, but it just really stands out culturally at Carlton.
