Tom Morris this morning throwing the following players under the bus as the centre of the “player unrest story”, a “close group of mates”:

- Windhager (OOC, agent thinks his has been low balled, club thinks their expectations are the stuff of dreams)

- Marshall (massive trade speculation)

- Butler (contracted until 2026, but wasn’t certain he would be around when he spoke at the member function last week)

- Howard (out of contract)

- Steele (massive trade speculation)
Havent you used Morris as credible before when its been good news?

FWIW i think all of this is speculation based on a really basic (argubrably too basic) narrative of our own doing. As you point out.

Windy hasnt resigned, historically not great at this time of year and no doubt his manager would be waiting for the Nas situation to play out to get max bucks but the "aesthetics" arent great.

Marshall is about to watch TDK waltz in on double his money, anyone NOT looking at their options at this point would be stupid.

Butler as you point out

Howard as you point out (and its argurable both have been overtaken, two guys the club probably should low ball as depth and let go if they find other offers ala Membs)

Steele a guy whos general demanour often looks like hes in pain at being a professional footballer and has actively distanced himself from any positive or negative media comments.

Obviously this all plays out around the Nas shitshow (media, possibly our doing as well but who knows).

My point here is the media is running with absolutely credible stories based on the perception of our list management and the WARCHEST shit weve been blasting for two years, this sort of story was inevitable and rather than claiming every grub media pundit is throwing us under the bus maybe take a breath and look at how weve actively contributed to it.

If you back the club like you always do then just ignore the noise, if youre sure SoS and co know what theyre doing then who gives a **** what Morris and co says.

GWS were big into him. He did want to move. My mate who played for Swans VFL confirmed Marshall wanted out.
Respectfully... Sydneys VFL team... how would said person know what a Saints player possibly wanting to go to GWS is saying.

Thats barely even a tenous link.

When why haven’t Essendon and Carlton been given unfair advantages in order to kick start their rebuilds? They’ve been worse than St Kilda has been.

None of those 3 mean anything. The AFL isn’t trying to hold St Kilda down, we are doing it to ourselves. The AFL wants every team to have their moment in the sun.
Getting guaranteed blockbuster matches every year is an advantage to attracting free agents and trade targets which would help rebuilding if applied well I'd reckon.

If the Harley Reid stuff is true, I reckon just do it, we need to break a few eggs to make an omelette, if we’re completely honest with ourselves nas is leaving and probably windy too, so might as well make use of the market before Tasmania comes in and raids all the talent.

He was in the Swans VFL and also Crows at one point. He had alot of connections with players including Tim Membrey (from Swans days), Alir Alir etc. He told me the whole story about when Papley had to front up to the team after Carlton couldn't get the trade done for him.

You don't have to believe me, but he told me at the time Marshall trade rumours popped up last year that Giants wanted him and Ro was fed up with the attention in Melbourne. Wasn't discontent with Saints, it was living in Melb apparently.

Its not so much that i dont believe you, FWIW i was in the VFL system for a few years way back in the day.

You see and hear some credible stuff and you also see and hear a whole lot of bullshit, at trade time everyone wants to be the mate that knows stuff.

Generally if it was part of your affiliate it would be somewhat credible, if it was outside that it was about as reliable as the BF ITKs.

Ive said this before but clubs are really bubbles, stuff rarely ever leaks without the club wanting it to, granted the media pack is bigger and more ravenous now than when i was floating around in it but my childhood best mate was in the footy department in an S&C role for over a decade and even he wouldnt tell me shit. Clubs make it nigh on impossible for this stuff to leak.

We will know soon.

If we find Wilkie Marshall steele windy and nas ask for trades then its confirmed everything that's been rubbished on here

Sure, and we could have secured some of those, but were utterly uncompetitive in every aspect of those matches.

Not the AFLs fault.

Its more the nature of some posters on this board.

When a story suits us and makes us look good the reporter is a beacon of the industry, always impeccable sources.

When a story is negative its a drive by on an easy target with no sources.

Battle is staying, its good mail, will happen any day. Nas is leaving, bullshit rumors from the AFL machine.

We all just pick and choose what we like.

If the Battle story last year being whichever ****ing reporter stating as fact he was putting pen to paper in days, then him leaving on bad terms by years end didnt make everyone here just chuckle at the media cycle and chill out about it then nothing will.

Most of what they report is made up or governed by how it appears to everyone, these disgruntled players is no different, maybe theres some truth, maybe there isnt, but the story is so ****ing easy to see that trying to claim its a hit job on us is idiotic.

We painted this canvass and now we dont like the critiques.

This is peak SOS and gubby.

Offer crazy money to a bloke who's told people he will never come to our club.

Then proceed to low ball the match winning mid we do have in NAS.

Never change st kilda. Never change.
This is peak Grand Poo-Bah of Chicken Little village St. Katrina.

A media flog said it, therefore it is.

Amen.
