Tim Watson and Garry Lyon have shed some light on St Kilda’s off-season plans:
Tim Watson began: “If you want to take a really optimistic look at St Kilda, they’ve locked away ‘Nas’, ’TDK’ is going to St Kilda, he’s locked away, he’ll be a St Kilda player next year.”
“They will add Leek Aleer. I’m not quite sure how good this young man is going to be. But we have seen young players like this develop remarkably over time.”
“They’ll add Liam Ryan as well. He’ll move from the West Coast Eagles to St Kilda. I don’t know whether it’s been reported or not.”
“I’m just saying to you this is what they’ll do in the off-season - they’ll add Liam Ryan, Leek Aleer, TDK, they’ve locked away Nas, they’ll hopefully have King back after another summer, they’ll have Mattaes Phillipou back (playing a full season).”
Garry Lyon added: “Hopefully (Marcus) Windhager signs and Jack Steele remains.”
Watson concluded: “They’ll keep all those players.”

Yeah, sounds like we've totally mismanaged the whole situation. Keeping our own players while adding players from other clubs.

Not even 24hrs have passed and the boots are already in, kicking us for having two of the highest paid players in the league

$18.3m Saints fear over plan to have AFL’s TWO highest-paid players

This is exactly why we need to march to the beat of our own drum.
  • Lose NAS and we'd get shat on by the media
  • Can't sign big free agent, get shat on by the media
  • Actually sign a big free agent, get shat on by the media
  • Raise the complete unevenness of the draft/trade landscape, get shat on by the media
Literally cannot make them happy. ****'em all I say

WTF , No idea what she is meant to represent except someone you could do time inside for

Absolutely the reason why we shouldn't get him
Got into a fight in freo in the off season
On field, off field, performance and output are all red flags with ryan
Why have we become a nation of puritanical wowsers.

Liam Ryan did nothing wrong that night, and frankly I’m surprised more footy players don’t end up getting in fights with all the heroes out there who badger them constantly looking for a fight.

Don’t want him at the club, because I don’t think his output is worth it. But having a fight a few years back is a crazy reason to not want him

The way the media is going, I for one cannot wait until we're inevitably linked with Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.

And by linked, some journos gonna come out and declare that we've DEFINITIVELY offered him a 10 year extension on 1.9m per year based on him liking a instagram post. We'll need a new thread here as well, happy days

Better than him inevitably ending up at Geelong where all of his off-field issues miraculously vanish.

Our forward line isn’t good enough. Can’t see all of King, Marshall, Sharman and Owens playing in the same forward line.

Our small forward stocks are bang average outside of Higgo. Max is a high half forward and will be spending half his time in the midfield and on the wing. Butler only good enough when he is performing really well.

I am not big on the Ryan move specifically but we need better small forwards than we have now.
1. I reckon the other end of the ground has been the big problem this season.
2. At least one of those four are on the bench for over half the time
3. Owens has proved how important he is the last two weeks in his absence
4. Hall will swing into the midfield but not most of the time
5. Ryan is not a pressure forward, and I think Higgins is a superior "small leading-marking forward" and Hall is a superior high half-forward

So I struggle to see it.

It was in Jan this year
Read my posts don't want due to his performance and output over the last 5 years plus being 30 years old next year.
It's not worth the draft capital spend
Crazy decision

Just the price you pay for relevancy
Is it though? I swear no other club gets scrutinised for spending money like we do. Or even thinking about spending money.

God knows geelong get upto and youve got their minister of propaganda mitch cleary talking about how they can afford to sign Butters, Walsh, Merrett, Harley Reid, Gary Ablett and the ghost of John Coleman this offseason and how smart they are.

Personally I think he’d be a great fit there. Really strong indigenous group and in a side that actually has a midfield he’ll excel.

Would be sad to see him go but our list management has been so shit that it’s best for the club.

Going to be interesting reading to see the trades suggested, overs from us and unders from you.
Realistically and with no disrespect, given the phase your club is in there's not much bargaining power. I suspect it will be used to send Lance Collard home with perhaps our 3rd round pick going with him. Of course there's an argument for more but l struggle to see SOS parting with it.

Good call
It's nepotism

I heard this is happening.

No need to be concerned as I believe we are also bringing in Tarryn Thomas, on $1.5m pa, to act as his mentor 👍🏻

Eagles fans would pack Ryan's bags for a 3rd round pick and drive him and Evana to the airport

At the end of the day he’s contracted for next year so it stands to reason that we’d want something of equal or greater value coming back noting there’s interest from other clubs too.

Hard to put a value on him. Yes I accept he’s only got four or so good years left but the small forward market in the modern game is such that clubs are willing to pay a bit more to get it over the line and he’s one with significant X factor overhead or crumbing. He’s also shown a bit through the midfield this year.

Would be good to know which players (if any) are open to a fresh start out west.

Maybe old Flyin Ryan will be the steak knives in a Reid mega deal ;)

It's unfathomable to imagine that ryan has one good year left let alone four.
If saints were smart they would wait a year for him to be delisted then pick him up for free as he doesn't have a strong relationship with Mini

With respect, if you believe any of the above you probably need to have a closer look.

Ehh, so does Max Hall, having statistically almost as good a season as Ryan in a very similar role and five years younger (but maybe we want to move Hally into the midfield).

I just found it odd we'd be setting this up given the Henry trade but Punter already corrected me that the draft capital for that trade was a lot lower than I thought so meh.
“Almost as good as Ryan” says it all. We all in raptures of Hall, but Ryan’s stats are better. We need talent, and this will be cheap as his age works in our favour from a trade point of view. I’d say a late third will get it done.
It’s a win win as the Eagles need his wage off the books as they are at the start of a rebuild.

This was always going to happen, regardless of the outcome.

They can go get ****ed.

If we bring in TDK then we trade Marshall. Unless we genuinely think King is cooked, in which case maybe we plonk Marshall at full forward for 60% of TOG.

Marshall is our only genuine big forward. Caminiti is still only a maybe.

There are plenty of teams operating very effective forward lines with more than one big forward marking target.

King combined with Marshall/TDK rotating would be good to try.

Marshall may be traded, but only if another club stumps up something decent for him. If Marshall goes then another tall marking forward would be good to have.

I really like Ryan but his stats are absolutely not better than Max Hall.

As a General Forward Hall is #4th in the competition for Player Rating. If you add in all the Mid-Forwards (Kozzy, Rankine, Martin etc.) he's #12 in the comp.

Hall is an absolute gun and after Nas he's the most likely AA we've got.

No it wasn't his Mrs it was her friends
WAPOL and afl integrity unit confirmed this.
The optics were not a good look but despite the video and some haymakers ryan was trying to deescalate the situation
Regardless, I would be trading high draft capital for a 30 yr old in 2026 inconsistent forward averaging less than a goal a game since 2021

right so he and his friends were attacked and somehow he's in the wrong here. fmd.

in all seriousness he should have been awarded an order of australia, for doing gods work and trying to clean up the streets of the shit hole called Freo.
