I think Grundy failed because the two-ruck strategy with Gawn just couldn't work since they are both below average forwards

Row is a decent forward so I think they can work together

Add on the new ruck rules that favour TDK as much as any ruck in the comp

There's more upside to this than the Grundy move imo
And hopefully 5 on the bench meaning we can carry both more easily.

That's something you can only say with hindsight.

No one would've said that at the time.

When Grundy signed his extension with Collingwood, he was the reigning All-Australian ruck. Coming off 2 straight AA appearances after being named in 2018 then first ruck in 2019, relegating Gawn to the bench.

TDK hasn't done anything like that. Not remotely close. Hasn't ever been in consideration for making the 40-man squad, let alone first ruck ahead of Gawn.

The thing with rucks, as Grant Thomas (and many others) have pointed out, is they aren't essential to success.

Gawn and Xerri are the top two rucks and their teams have won 12 games combined.

To be a premiership contender, you don't need a good ruck. Look at Rhys Stanley- Geelong's #1 ruck every year as they perennially contend for flags.

So if you can pay $700k and get a solid ruck through trade or Free agency (or promote one of your youngsters) compared to paying someone $1.7mil. Ask- what are you getting for the extra $1mil.

Overpaying any player is unwise but overpaying a ruck is especially bad business.

I work for South Adelaide on match days and I have never seen a more dominant kid at U16 level. Literally has had to play a few games at U18 level. Would love Port to have him stolen from his grasp lol.
Yeah, but he was only ok at the Champs…kids like Jake Miller are miles ahead as a Key forward

GT had the best playing list in the clubs history and failed. He talks like he’s a footballing god. No thanks.

Lancey Boy doesn't look like he is going anywhere

Look at Bradley Hill. Absolutely chuffed with himself, and such a handsome unit.

He should feel freaking proud, he's done a mountain of good work for this club, and he keeps smiling even though he cops it from both our fans and oppo supporters.

Culture is important, even if it is intangible, and it's what separates this team from what we've had in the era between Riewoldt and now.

Though I assume he will nominate for the draft and so "Can go any Club" ?

Can be a FS, and so if we want him he is ours. Including as possibly a prelisted Rookie if no Club calls his name in the main draft.

Would be a DFA I assume?
Yes.

Not sure.

No idea

😂

You are the most bipolar poster on here. I’m happy for you to be on their side though. Dard needs back up.

I honestly admire anyone that can have unbridled faith in our decision making after the last 15 years.

The current group are doing a lot more right than wrong but there is always room to improve. Still not sold on SOS but he’s ticked off one very important piece.
Oh man, you are so triggered. Look you made a fool of yourself last week and then was conviently off-line when RL was on FC. You bagged SoS and demanded his sacking but he has now met your exacting standards which I am sure he willbe relieved to hear. You have wet yourself for weeks without waiting for an outcome.
Even your criticism of Hill now looks foolish as he was instrumental in NAZ resigning and is the elder of the indigenous lads.
Look, I understand you lash out with insults and victimhood when your straw man proclamations are proven disastrously wrong, but this time takes the cake.
You can enjoy being wrong about NAZ and SoS and the mass exodus you breathlessly said ' was growing legs' It is truly sad.

More would need to go. Like potentially Webster retiring.

Incomings: TDK Aleer Ryan FRP Fincher

Paul Amy practically saying we are taking Campigli and looking at Voss.

+ Tex Wanganeen
What’s Dodzilla’s contract status?

Could Henry play half back? I feel like he could really do with having some easy ball and he's very clean.

Particularly with Ryan it's worth exploring.
I really like this suggestion. Get his hands on the ball and use his speed.

His ability to defend would be the worry but Nas wasn't great at it either when he first moved there so it's something Enright can teach.

Hill has not quite lived up to expectations on field, but like Ryan, with an average team around him.
Fortunately he has been worth his weight in gold for our first nations players and is an absolute asset
I would also argue his football is ok, his running is extraordinary and is a first 23 player. Slightly underwhelming for what we paid, but has worked out brilliantly off field.

He turned it into the best playing list in the clubs history, and didn’t get the chance to see it through. Should never have been sacked.
That’s right, he took them to the the movies when we running hot. He took over as coach in interesting circumstances and his departure was the same.
He was the head coach and also placed himself into the club’s marketing committee etc. 🤣 Nuts!
