Surely we are looking at getting Flanders and/or pick 6 or 10, maybe as a part of a salary purchase, similar to Bowes to Geelong? Not sure whether Flanders is worth 7 by itself, although he would look it in our system.

Look, I'll take that crumby old Flanders off their hands for them, but I'm gonna need Port Adelaide's 1st round pick off them.

If they really want to haggle, I guess they can have a future 3rd round pick as well, because I'm generous like that.

The other thing to consider if Ro asked to be traded to Geelong is Fincher.

Geelong's first pick will probably end up around 25, that's super dangerous territory for a Fincher bid. I expect it to be later, but I'd be nervous nonetheless.

For mine, I only want one thing from Geelong and that's Tom's brother. They won't have the picks to satisfy us imo.

A Fincher bid of around 25 would hardly be of a concern.

We likely have the points already with our current third rounder + a 4th rounder tied to Essendon.

There is 8-10 Father son/academy kids likely going in the top 25 that will require multiple picks each to bring ours forward and cover Fincher.

Paying $800k for a backup ruck (IMO you cant play two unless they change the bench rule) is idiotic.

We dont need another ruckman, we need a forward who can do the job for 5 minutes a quarter. Keeler is much better suited to that.

Also cant see much point keeping him in case King goes down, if were expecting that every year just **** King off. At some point holding 800k on your books for a VFL player becomes a dumb list management exercise.

Marshall ahead of keels as well IMHO

I don’t see how it’s smart asset mamangement to have him playing twos all year and I can’t see a spot for him in a 23 without injury.

Don’t think there’s a lot of value in a guy worth that much as a backup but I’m not losing sleep over it either way.

If… a lot of ifs. If it’s 5 on the bench. If it goes to last touch rule then two rucks will be totally ****ing useless too

Totally agree on the Marshall assessment, let him go to Geelong for a few years and we get a first round pick. Win-win.
Him staying is not going to help us in the ruck or forward, TDK is a much better ruck and Keeler/King are better tall forwards.

Marshall is a terrific club man and a lovable character. But if TDK is to come, best if we parted ways and invest the money/spot in other areas.

As a pure defender, which is just as much as turning defence into attack as it is to just pure stopping. Yeah, I think Aleer is the better defensive prospect.

Take nothing away from Caminiti. I think what he has done has been heroic down there this year.

But if the worst is that we agree they are a much of a muchness. Then that makes us better doesn’t it?

Caminiti goes forward Aleer plugged in down back.

Or both stay back and we never see Dougal again.

Either way the side gets better. My point was ultimately we pat on the back Caminitis improvement down back, we should infact expect development from Aleer (hopefully it starts with his body work 1:1)

We’re paying for best 22 way over what GWS have reportedly offered and he’ll cost a decent pick. A third seems fair if we drag it out maybe that or a swap of seconds gets it done.

Dockers have 3 talls in Treacy, Voss and Amiss. Although Amiss is more Sharman than key forward.

I wish I had faith in Keeler to develop into the best version of his talent because that would really open the door to trade Marshall for the right price.

This is an important point imo.

It's a tricky one. Part of me wants to see Keeler play every game next year.

before FA compo etc we have pick 43 (184 points) and 58 (0 points). which probably start as 46/61 or worse after FA compo

as you say, they will move in by that time, but I'm not sure they will cover it. e.g. they would both have to slide up 15 spots to pick 31 (429 points) & 46 (134 points). that seems far fetched even with all the picks that will be consumed by matching

obviously we can go into deficit, or acquire more picks via players/futures etc. Melb's 3rd (tied to Bris) for Heath would help

in any case I think 25 is a very tricky landing spot for us without a 2nd rounder. hopefully he goes a lot later than that. anything after pick 36 where we basically get him for free would be a godsend

The third rounder comes in 8-10 spots. Maybe a little more as there would be a hell a lot of picks required before we get to Fincher.

The 4th rounder comes in probably 12+ picks.

We likely either have enough or need a late 40s pick to cover a small deficit.

I dont believe our list is in a position to leak players each year. The idea of trading Marshall, Windhager or even Steele genuinely bothers me. If we have to move any on because of their contract $$$ then we have got things very wrong IMO.
