not familiar with ryan's current form, but have always loved him, would MUCH prefer him playing forward than jack steele next year just sayin

Would prefer NOT to sign TDK, but reneging on a commitment may be far more damaging in the longer run in terms of being able to attract talent from other clubs

It's not ideal, but I think being locked into a 1.7mil per year contract for 7 years for a good but not great ruck would be more damaging to our future. Especially considering that contract guarantees that Dodson will not be a long term St Kilda player (and won't yield much in a trade because he'll never get to play as starting ruck to build value).

We won't have the cap space to attract talent to the club if we're carrying this massive contract.

TDK has one top 10 B&F finish in his career, which I believe was 7th. He's currently having a poor season so probably won't improve on that this year. He'll also turn 27 next season, so it's not like we're getting a 23 year old Dean Cox or Max Gawn through the door with 10 years of elite footy ahead.

He wasn't attacked fmd

what are you on about:

so a female friend received facial injuries and you're not happy that he stepped in and got physical with members of a much larger group.

do you often just stand back and watch as your female friend gets punched in the face?

We had eight first or second year players play against Essendon on Friday night.

Our team make-up was not much different to them. The match result was not surprising.

All of those first or second year players are either best 22 already or are pretty close.

Kye Fincher is likely to arrive and he looks like another talent to add to the list.

We honestly don't really want to go much younger than we are.

We want to add TDK, Aleer, Max King, Phillipou...possibly even Dougal to the side and off we go.

We have built the base and now it's time to flesh the team out, while still picking up the odd talent along the way.

We don't want to be North Melbourne, who keep going back to the draft, perpetually stay young and achieve nothing.

Plus 3 third years - so 11 in all 3 years and less.
A point made very deliberately by Ross last night and aimed squarely at Cornes.
Whack!

We're not backing out on TDK. That ship has sailed, even if it looks a bit silly now.

by all accounts that 1.7m figure is now outdated and SOS will most likely be negotiating on that number. Makes sense too.

At the start of the year (when this number was floated) the only thing we had to offer was money over Carlton. After the current season they've had, we not only have the attraction of tapping the ball to a genuine top-5 player in the comp, but we are looking much better set for the future than carlton are. Their superstars are aging and their is going to more scrutiny than ever before on their coach from day 1.

If Nas value can increase dramatically, then TDK value can decrease by a bit as well.

Morning big footy family,

My thoughts are, I’ve never been more confident in retaining NAS for the long term.

We have 2 years to be playing finals - it would be mighty hard for him to leave after all the hard work to watch your mates play in finals and potentially win a 🏆.

He will probably be vice captain in the next few years.

He is the superstar of this club. It is his! Would he be that in Adelaide?

6 years living in Melbourne by then.

For Corey Enright to be in the room with Ross as he told of his news, obviously thinks very highly of Enright? We need to keep Enright.

Message is, the ball is in our court.

Onwards and upwards 🙌

IF king can get a run at it - NAS to king 😍😍
100%
ryan wont come unless they're selling him a position in the 22

gonna be hard to fit everyone in
West Coast saying he ain't coming at all

No it wasn't his Mrs it was her friends
WAPOL and afl integrity unit confirmed this.
The optics were not a good look but despite the video and some haymakers ryan was trying to deescalate the situation
Regardless, I would be trading high draft capital for a 30 yr old in 2026 inconsistent forward averaging less than a goal a game since 2021

Then why bring the fight up?

I honestly don't understand.

Enright is probably our next head coach, it just makes sense

At the end of the day he’s contracted for next year so it stands to reason that we’d want something of equal or greater value coming back noting there’s interest from other clubs too.

Hard to put a value on him. Yes I accept he’s only got four or so good years left but the small forward market in the modern game is such that clubs are willing to pay a bit more to get it over the line and he’s one with significant X factor overhead or crumbing. He’s also shown a bit through the midfield this year.

Would be good to know which players (if any) are open to a fresh start out west.
Wouldn’t you be better off getting his money off your books and getting time into a younger player. Not trying to be a smart ass but sos won’t give up anything good for him. Not a massive need so we would just walk away

The only reason I could see for them to keep Flyin Ryan is to act as a senior mentor for their young brigade. You don't want to do a Norf where the whole team are 18 year olds (though first round picks).

This idea of looking silly if we back out or renegotiate TDK's contract makes no sense to me.

Circumstances changed over a 4+ month period. He has done himself no favours by playing ordinary footy.

If anything he is the one that has done a bait and switch. Plays elite footy for a month whilst discussions were happening then reverts to just a good ordinary player.

Anybody reasonable could see our point of view on this one. 1.2-1.3 is still way overs.

Realistically and with no disrespect, given the phase your club is in there's not much bargaining power. I suspect it will be used to send Lance Collard home with perhaps our 3rd round pick going with him. Of course there's an argument for more but l struggle to see SOS parting with it.
Find it hard to accept that Ross would go after a contracted player after being so outspoken on TV about it being illegal for others to chase our contracted players (Roma, Steele and Wilkie)

Eagles have a dearth of talent and leadership

Worst in the league

Will only get substantially worse when losing their captain to brisbane

That player traded either doesn't have the performance output or leadership or both required.

It's a red flag as why would a club with a dearth of talent and leadership be willing to trade a contracted player unless...

right so he and his friends were attacked and somehow he's in the wrong here. fmd.

in all seriousness he should have been awarded an order of australia, for doing gods work and trying to clean up the streets of the shit hole called Freo.
Freo is much better than laithlain
Especially under the current administration
The only constant is uncle Nigel satterley
Very good to the club

He's only 28 and has shown that he can be a very very good forward.

Will only be an asset to our great club, will have the support and community he needs to maximise his potential.

I reckon (regardless of him being contracted) we'd be looking at trading collard back home for Ryan + another player or pick.

If the Liam Ryan news is correct, it's a great testament to the club for becoming an enticing destination for indigenous talent.

Collin Young might be hated by lots of fans out West but it's a good thing to be a club he is happy for his WA clients to head too.

I think Ryan is probably more likely to move us towards finals more than Aleer and TDK. He is able to score against the flow and from limited chances. Those guys are huge in finals. It's a decent option.

To me he is representative of everything we want the sport to be. Fast, skilled, brave and eye catchingly graceful.

Nasaiah is a sparkling throwback to a time when the game was much more exuberant, in amongst the modern quagmire of defensive, zoning, flooding systems.

Nas is very watchable. His moments in the game are thrilling and when he touches the ball 30 times a game the thrills just keep coming.

His appeal is organic for all ages, you don’t have to be an expert to enjoy watching him play.

Lots of footy loving families who have kids that want to support Nas because he plays the beautiful game, beautifully.
Exactly this CF... whilst I've been worried about Nas leaving, since the bye I've made sure that I took my kids to every game in Vic (including going to Sleepy Hollow, Kardinia Park) just so as we could drink in as much of him live as we possibly could. I've been following the game since I arrived 21 years ago and he's simply the most stunningly talented athlete I've seen.

My 8yo daughter insisted on getting a Nas badge last Friday... maybe to be used for 1 game only... but I thought... who cares... he's inspiring a new generation of kids to play and watch the game.

To add to it, he seems like a quietly confident young man who is a good role model to the youngsters too.

From a legal perspective, he is referring to the tort of inducing a breach of contract (tort law, not contract law). Here is a nice tight summary of it from an employment perspective (https://harmers.com.au/legal-update-23/):

Protections in Tort – Inducing a Breach of Contract
Further, if your employees are being aggressively courted by competitors, you may consider whether you are entitled to the protections afforded by the tort of inducing a breach of contract. The elements of this tort (in an employment context) are that:

  1. there is an employment contract
  2. another business is aware that such a contract exists and that certain acts will result in a breach (e.g. providing confidential information or approaching former clients in breach of a restraint clause)
  3. notwithstanding this knowledge, this other business induces the employee to do the act or omission that will breach the employment contract; and
  4. this results in loss or damage to the original employer.
A notable recent example of this tort in action can be seen in Employsure Ltd v McMurchy; Employsure Ltd v Kumaran [2021] NSWSC 1179. In this case, the NSW Supreme Court enforced Employsure’s 9-month post-employment restraints after two senior employees left to work for a competitor in the HR software market. The Court held that competitor ELMO Software was liable as having induced one employee to breach his contract with Employsure (by encouraging him to recruit the second employee). The Court imposed injunctive relief, preventing both former-Employsure employees from joining the competitor business or using any confidential information.

I mean, what RTB is saying is technically true but it is rarely used especially in a Sport's context. The bottom line is, how many times do clubs talk to contracted players at other teams? In the end, Flyin Ryan would say I approached the Saint's looking to join via my manager and then West Coast can either do a trade or hold him to his contract. It's not like he can just tell the Eagles to get stuffed and walk to us. Sports' law is a different kettle of fish and the player contracts would have built-in mechanisms different to normal employment contracts.
