Cananiti may do a preseason with the backs. He wasn’t afforded that luxury this year.
I was always under the impression that Marshall would make a fine centre-half back. I suggested it years ago on another forum to a like-warm (kind) reception. On the hand, same result when. Asked about Caminiti down there. One criticism of the idea was that Roma wouldn’t have the speed to stop a big forward on the lead, or the mobility to stop a smaller one spin away

I suppose it is opportunity cost, isn’t it.

Not sure why some here think if we land TDK then Marshall has to go especially if Boyd goes as well which looks likely

We had 4 ruckman on the list this year - Marshall / Boyd / Heath / Dodson

Not sure why people want to go to 3??

If Marshall leaves and if we get an injury to TDK its means we are calling on Heath (still developing) to ruck full time or a 19yo Dodson .... or maybe Keeler ... who isnt a genuine ruck

Been mentioned plenty of times that the sub rule is likely to sacked and a bench of 5 or 6 to be implemented by the AFL ... so there should be room to play both

Also with having 2 genuine rucks to call upon it gives us options .... play both .... play only one from time to time and rest the other (horses for courses) also keeps them fresh and allows their bodies to recuperate .... if an injury does occur to one then we have a top line back up .... in the meantime keep developing Heath & Dodson especially

I had an interesting chat to Dodson as I was lining up for food with him at half time during the game yesterday. He reckons Windhager will stay and agreed with me when I said he seemed like a heart and soul figure for the club.

Probably more interesting was his reaction to TDK. He seemed pretty uncertain/uneasy. Said something along the lines of, "yeah...I can understand why they'd do it, but I'm probably the wrong person to talk to about it to be honest". No doubt feels like it'll be harder to break into the side with TDK at the club. Definitely a watch for the future if we rate him.

Thought he was better than Caminiti and plenty are happy to persist with him as a key back

I thought Caminiti was good. Tauru got exposed a lot early but the back 6 settled. I’d rather be a young defender in their back 6 than ours right now.

I saw him hooking into his food with a lady friend in tow. Wasn’t as physically developed as I thought he would be. Still some physical developing to do.

I see the TDK and Marshall scenario perfect for Dodson. Gives him 1 to 2 years to develop and command the second ruck spot. Will be competing with Keeler though.

If legitimate perhaps we rate him higher than who may get with our first in this years draft = straight swap for our 1st rd draft pick. Although any media he does Cam always looks pretty content at Hawthorn and there are always faceless rumours this time of year.
He is a Hawks supporter as well

Dodson is 19yo and can keep developing and break into the side once Marshall retires or his contract comes to an end

Dodson's turn will come .... he needs to be patient and keep building / strengthening his body

We do have to keep in mind that the Crowbots could come calling very soon given O'Brien is 30 and the rucks they have are middling ..... Kieran Strachan (29) & Lachlan McAndrew (25 & 210cm) & Toby Murray (21 & 201cm)

Thought the same thing. Marshall doesn’t have long left regardless of if he leaves or not. Turns 30 in a few months, and I can’t see him running out at 33

It was still a story that hadn’t been broken, don’t really get the big deal about it. It was news, and Nas was just about the biggest story of the year
It was planted by his manager, hardly “broken’ by Morris and he tried to make out it was some poncey dinner. Having a dig at the club totally misreading what would impress NAS and family.

Cannot believe you are defending a bloke who is clearly so up himself and is actually just a gossip columnist.

A Fincher bid of around 25 would hardly be of a concern.

We likely have the points already with our current third rounder + a 4th rounder tied to Essendon.

There is 8-10 Father son/academy kids likely going in the top 25 that will require multiple picks each to bring ours forward and cover Fincher.

My post had nothing to do with our ability to match any bids. It did however have everything to do with a potential pick from Geelong for Marshall getting eaten up by a Fincher bid.

Be a waste honestly.

Fincher plays that role and can rack them up. If you’re going like for like I’d rather have Fincher be that quarterback role and Lindsay to be an out and out mid.

Or ideally have Fincher and Lindsay as mids and have old mate Tobie to be the attacking HBF.

Hastie also looks like a running rebound defender

I dont believe our list is in a position to leak players each year. The idea of trading Marshall, Windhager or even Steele genuinely bothers me. If we have to move any on because of their contract $$$ then we have got things very wrong IMO.
Well I for one am pretty tired of finishing between 9th and 13th for the past 15 years with the odd outlier finals appearance.
I really don't feel we lose all of the above. We definitely need to resign Windhager. If we got a first for Roh, I am comfortable and I don't think Steele is going anywhere.
There is definitely no SC issues, however there would be relief if one or two did go.

How was I trying to get rid of Windy?

The average salary is 500k. Ryan is apparently coming across on 600k.

If we are fighting over a few hundred k for windy. How do you think we are going to make all these figures work?

Mc Kenzie looks like a nothing player. Windhager is 10 times the player.

Many say this, but I believe that Keeler can carve out his own niche in the team. And he niche where he does not need to ruck.

He can play small or tall, and has some sublime skills.
