It's got potential, he looks a bit vanilla but this is a pretty average draft.

Yes it is, but we have to trade for Aleer, Ryan and the "Mystery Mid" (Hopefully this is not Cam).

Can get Fincher at a discount or "free"

And if we rate Jackson Voss as a FS for "free"

And use our first rounder for best available.

Most of that taken away when NAZ signed. NAZ under more pressure to perform if we are just going on $$$

Not really, he's a known quantity and our own who's developed good will and has our affection. We'll make all kinds of excuses for him.

TDK is an interloper who came for cash. If he's quiet in his first game or we lose badly with him rucking, his attitude is a bit questionable etc, he is going to cop it.

If we don't play finals or show marked improvement he's going to be the focus. Other sides will take the piss out of us if he's average.

I feel sorry for him, I don't think he can win unless he walks in and is the best ruck in the comp from day one. He's going to be in the pressure cooker from day one.

Widely reported he was lowballed.

He is receiving offers well above what we’ve offered according to you it’s $200 - $300k a year.

We could both be wildly wrong but you can’t be serious with some of these statements. If as reported Windhager has $800k plus on the table from north and serious interest from several other clubs then by definition our offer is below market value, hence lowballed.

Clubs make decisions all the time that are tough and lead to other players leaving. Despite the denial's paying Nas $2million and TDK god knows what, it appears to already be hurting us in retaining others.

Maybe it’s just me but we can’t have predicted what Nas would cost us so money we thought we had is gone. I think it’s stupid not to lock away your own young guns before you start throwing money at imports.

We’ve talked about TDK, it makes sense especially if Marshall leaves which at one stage at least he wanted to. I’m never going to be happy loosing a Windhager to being in an Aleer. Nothings done until the paper work is lodged he’s a contracted player at a club about to play finals.

So using our coaches logic there can’t at this stage to be much to walk away from. That or once again Ross is too clever by have with some of his statements.
Widely reported means nothing except there is an echo chamber. It was “widely reported” that NAS was leaving, then that nobody knew if he’d stay or
I don’t know where you get this exodus talk.

There there some players who weren’t happy that’s common knowledge. I have no information on wether that’s still the case I guess we’ll see how many remain after the trade period.

As to Nas yes he stayed but are you seriously trying to make out it was nether in doubt.
The unhappy player thing was debunked the very next day.

Potentially a few swaps or something... I reckon he's a gun
I think if the rumours of Steele moving on is true, then it's effectively a 29 y/o Steele out, 21 y/o Mackenzie in. He is a neat midfielder with stoppage craft and good skills, nothing outstanding but has plenty of potential. Think he is better than any of the first round mids available to us in this draft, so might be a good move.

Agree, TDK is going to be under the microscope, but that comes with the big pay packet.....

And as long as he is passable to start with, that will be secondary to the win/loss columns. He will get a lot more latitude if the team is winning......

Looks like the mystery mid is Mackenzie. I was hoping for Flanders, but nothing linking us to him yet. If Steele goes, then it's effectively Mackenzie in for Steele.

With Marshall also potentially moving on (Geelong?), we will have the capital to do these deals (late first round so we can exchange for 2 second round picks). one for Ryan. Future second for Aleer. Sorted!!!

FA
  • TDK
Trade
  • Aleer (future 2nd)
  • Ryan (2nd round)
  • Makenzie (out Steele)

Draft
  • Split our first round pick for 2 picks (Ludowyke a key forward, Philipou junior combo mid)
  • NGA - Fincher (mid/hbf)
  • Father Son - Jackson Voss

Some people just want to be angry.

Who's angry? We need to be disciplined. I'm not angry, just concerned about kicking the can down the road. Whatever we do now has consequences in the future. The only guide we have is what is reported. To completely ignore contracts would be foolhardy too.

Reckon some already have him lined up, like they did to Brad Hill.

Those numbers don't really seem to be those of an elite forward. I've got my rose coloured glasses off re Max King. He's frustrating as hell. Looks all the world like an injury bust. Hope I'm wrong. There should come a point where the club has to bite the bullet and stop hanging their hat on what he 'could be' and face up to what he is.
The injury bust issue is gonna be a risk until it's not but we've little alternatives at the moment. Since its going to be basically a full 18 months since he last took the field we've never seen what this filled out version of Max is actually like. I'll wait to be impressed, but like l said there's little alternative.

In 3 years that might be a win but short term I'm imagining that as a backwards step. Steele can play as a forward if needed. McKenzie looks like a solid vanilla mid.

Perhaps Ross and Steele don't really get on. It's going to be a hard sell to the general Saints fans losing Steel, Marshall and Windhager in one year. All three are absolute fan favourites.

Various people who seem to want to believe the click bait hype about disharmony and a general exodus. Mostly focused around Wilkie which was debunked. Around the same time so many journos had theories in NAS and it was evident they had no idea.

I just don’t understand why people take a clickbait source with such faith when all evidence points to those sorrows being wrong more often than correct. Then getting upset about others pointing this out.

It’s not at you per se.

This year's first round must be shocking then.

Brad Hill was a positive until he didn't perform. I don't think I've ever been a Hill hater. I suggested he would frustrate fans before he came because he was very outside but thought he was worth chasing. I wasn't happy with the capital spent on him but never had a problem with him.

His first couple of seasons were a long way off his wage and the pressure came on him from the general footy public. You get big money in these deals but you wear the weight of it around your neck.

Seems like Carlton's version of Tony is saying JSOS is coming to us.

Ryan now requesting a trade.

My head is beginning to rumble--the top is about to blow!
