2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Gettable
- TDk coming to the saints. Year 8 will be around $1m

- Butters - Twomey doesn’t think he is going

- Windhager, dogs Melbourne west coast now chasing. 4 year deal from us. Hasn’t signed yet. But believe he will - however MONEY will need to “get to the level”

- Wilkie, clubs still asking the question

- Zac Bailey - Essendon throwing massive contract at him

- JSoS, 5 year deal more than $4m - expect End of first round pick for Carlton

- Liam Ryan - Bound for st Kilda, 3 year deal + 1. “We don’t have a second round pick this year”

- Max Heath, All but a lock he gets to Melbourne (Twomey)

- Sam Draper - close to band 1 compo

- Rowan Marshall - think it simmers, right in the frame for Geelong BUT if the offer isn’t good enough we won’t deal

- Leek Aleer - JSOS won’t impact our chase for leek Aleer, won’t take much from a trade point of view - even pre season draft is an option (Twomey and Beveridge)

- Sam Flanders - saints are keen. First pick is in play.

Happy for Moose.

As I’ve said for sometime. Sam Walsh was the only mid I’d heard of that was gettable “at the level above” and it looks like he is staying.

Don’t buy Merrett for a second. All the others have re-signed.
Let's do some good old stavro common sense deduction from available evidence shall we?
We are after Ryan, Aleer, and Flanders. Two are contracted, Flanders will cost a first, Ryan a second. Aleer is OOC so wont cost much.
As stated we don't have a second. We may get some picks if Rohan and Moose go ( and if Windy decides to go). All the capital will be taken up getting the first three across the line and the rest on required drafting.
Where do we get the capital to satisfy Essendon who has a contracted player and captain?
It's just not feasible.

Not the biggest fan of AI slop, but heres a compiled injury timeline for Jack Silvagni from 2019 onwards with chatgpt, most of the sources used are from carlton and afl official site so it seems mostly correct:

Jack Silvagni Injury Timeline (2019–2025)

2020
  • 27 Jun 2020 — Bruised lung and fractured rib (v Essendon, R5). Hospital overnight. Missed the next two games (R6–R7).
  • Aug 2020 — Knee (ITB release surgery). Required 4–6 weeks recovery, effectively ending his season.
2021
  • 18 Mar 2021 — Dislocated shoulder (v Richmond, R1). Missed Round 2, returned Round 3.
  • 10 Apr 2021 — Right shoulder ligament issue (v Gold Coast, R4). Minor procedure, out for about a month. Returned Round 8.
  • 9 May 2021 — Concussion (R8). Missed Round 9 under 12-day protocols.
2022
  • No medium or long-term injuries reported.
2023
  • 22 Jul 2023 — Knee joint sprain (v West Coast, R19). Re-injured in the VFL the following month. Didn’t play AFL again that year, missing the rest of the season from Round 20 onward.
2024
  • 24–25 Jan 2024 — Ruptured ACL at training. Season-ending injury, 12-month recovery. Missed the entire 2024 season.
2025
  • 27 Apr 2025 — Fractured hand (v Geelong, R7). Had surgery, missed 1–2 games, returned around Round 10.
  • 16 May 2025 — Groin soreness (v Sydney, R10). Missed roughly one game (Round 11).
  • Jul–Aug 2025 — Ongoing groin issues. Given recovery blocks, then officially shut down for the final three games of the season.
Looks like quite a lot of bad luck and unrelated issues. Makes me slightly less concerned we are getting another hanners with chronic soft tissue issues.

Latest on Silvagni... hot off the press today from my source.... He may now be in some doubt... had medical and passed ok.... but apparently showed some odd characteristics and a bit of a smart arse towards a few....

Separate unrelated topic.... i'm hearing Mr Jayco may have very quietly paid out the Club's entire debt...

No updates on Windy or Marshall at this stage.

Seemed like the only soft tissue injury was groin this year. Unfortunately that was his most recent injury.

Not doubting you source, but that is one weird flipping update on JSOS. 😅😅😅

Odd characteristics?

But wouldn't his Dad and close family friends already be aware that he's a strange person? That's a bit confusing.

Ross knows him well already to. Then again Ross shows some odd characteristics at times.

Great summary.

How in the hell could Drapers next contract be close to band 1 compensation?

There isn’t a world where Brisbane could bring in 2 players on that much cash. And the guy isn’t a top 12 ruck in the comp. I smell the afl trying to cook up some dodgy band 1 compo to get ‘big club’ Essendon back to relevancy.

Flanders 1st

Seems likely.

From a purely personal perspective it is bit sad for me as I have scored an invitation to Draft Night this year as probably my only ever chance to attend, and it seems likely that St Kilda will not have a live pick on the night :(

Wonder if we could get everyone in and keep a first rounder this year using future picks.
Problem is that this year's draft is weak, an secondly that the 2027 Draft may not have any FS or Academy Matches allowed which combine could make it a better draft to be in. Though hopefully we have great year push our 1st Ron pick back.

If we trade Pick 7 for Flanders without anything else coming back our way I'd be very surprised. If we are looking to get an additional Future 1st for next year I'd look at Collingwood's, I think they could be a big slider next year.

If we trade Marshall are there any forward/rucks who are decent enough to play the FF/CHF alongside or as a backup to King?
If Marshall is traded then I would imagine that the Club will use:
  • Caminiti or Keeler to play forward along with King.
  • Use the trade capital from Marshall to help land other positions that they are seeking to improve such as our midfield.

If Twomey is right - we are getting Aleer and JSOS.

So Tauru forward - would have to be the move ?
