2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Gettable
- TDk coming to the saints. Year 8 will be around $1m

- Butters - Twomey doesn’t think he is going

- Windhager, dogs Melbourne west coast now chasing. 4 year deal from us. Hasn’t signed yet. But believe he will - however MONEY will need to “get to the level”

- Wilkie, clubs still asking the question

- Zac Bailey - Essendon throwing massive contract at him

- JSoS, 5 year deal more than $4m - expect End of first round pick for Carlton

- Liam Ryan - Bound for st Kilda, 3 year deal + 1. “We don’t have a second round pick this year”

- Max Heath, All but a lock he gets to Melbourne (Twomey)

- Sam Draper - close to band 1 compo

- Rowan Marshall - think it simmers, right in the frame for Geelong BUT if the offer isn’t good enough we won’t deal

- Leek Aleer - JSOS won’t impact our chase for leek Aleer, won’t take much from a trade point of view - even pre season draft is an option (Twomey and Beveridge)

- Sam Flanders - saints are keen. First pick is in play.
Thanks for the summary Stav. Surely we wouldn’t trade both Marshall and Heath? I could understand Heath looking around if he’s fourth in line but if we lose Marshall you’d want Heath to stay.

To be fair to JSOS it was in the medical and the doc cupped his aggots and asked him to cough so he was under some stress with answering questions about if he made his own bed at the same time.

Was just having this convo with a mate.

  • TDK
  • Dodson
  • Keeler

Would all still be on the list. Keeler rucked in our last game.

It’s an interesting situation. They want to keep Marshall. That can’t be ignored. But if he did go, maybe we look at drafting a forward ruck?

I still think of Keeler as a key forward who can chop out in the ruck. If the club sees him as a ruck who can play forward (or back) that changes things I guess.

Yup. Feels like it would be close to a complete side. Midfield still lacking though. Flanders or Mackenzie would be handy. I'd gladly give up our 1st rounder for either of them, especially Flanders
It’s starting to sound like Flanders is a big target, although I think we’d want something coming back to help with other deals if we’re giving away our first.

The model for rucks really is

Number 1
Solid back up
Developing kid

Thats what wed have. If two of the three go down and youre getting to Bombers level then youre probably cooked anyway, try for a state league in the mid season.

You can only have so much depth.

Needs more strings to his bow if he is going to make it.

Doesn’t play like a traditional key forward either.

If I was him. I’d be living in the gym and working on my ruck craft. Because he should in theory, cause chaos as a ruck

I think wherever he plays he could be a great player, he just needs more muscle. 200cm players with his skills and agility don’t grow on trees.

We’re probably just keeping tabs on him in case Hawthorn are looking for a first round pick to help them get someone else.
I've had a look at the Hawthorn trade board and there's a bloke there who seems to be pretty well respected as an ITK that says they're confident of getting 2 midfielders across and would need our first rounder to do so.

Especially if they modify the rules to make rucks jump at centre bounces!

Just depends whether we want Flanders or McKenzie. We’d probably need to involve our first in a deal for either of them.
Flanders every day of the week and twice on Sunday. McKenzie looks like a vanilla Parish to me. So vanilla he looks like a Polar Bear in a snowstorm.

Mackenzie has a lot more traits than Parish imo

Way better kick, taller, better agility - a lot more of an outside game

Parish is more a pure contested accumulator

If anything, I’d say Flanders is more similar to Parish than Cmack (although neither are that similar to him imo)
