2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

I really don't get the concern about it blowing up on us.

Worst case scenario is our recruits are duds and we try to get rid of them or wait out their contracts. We still have a really good core of young kids coming through.
This.

The contracts may have salary cap implications but it is a low risk strategy with a lot of upside.

There will be a lot of revisionism if it doesn’t work but I applaud the club for what they are doing.

No guts no glory. Good on the club for having a crack.

Some names we brought in 2000-2003 ish:

Craig Callahan
Matthew Capuano
Steven Lawerence
Knobel
Brooks
Fiora

Definitely didn't hit all our trades and that didn't stop the kids from coming through and forming their own core.

Hammill and G Train obviously very important acquisitions.

Guerra, Gram, Black, Penny all decent trades that worked out to various levels.

Damn we were really keen on a ruckman weren't we. Should have just kept Spider.

Jsos in surely - surely means Tauru is going forward which would be brilliant. Can't wait for the Brains Trust track watching reports saying he's training with the forwards.

In the forward group I kind of fear for Owens - I have huge wraps on the guy but his field and goal kicking is not great (his goal kicking accuracy is actually good on the stats sheet but I would love to see that with OOF and 'didn't make the journey' included). So yeah I just wonder about his role. Disposal by foot not good enough for wing and we don't seem to want to use him as a big inside mid.
Can he kick a set shot though?
Some pretty nervous attempts from Tauru so far albeit in his first few games.

Could be tight for spots in the forward line too if everyone is fit.

Can all of King, Sharman, Owens, Marshall, Tauru and Ryan (not to mention Keeler and Caminiti) play in the same side?
If Marshall stays, don’t be surprised if we push Sharman to a wing in the mould of Mason Wood

Just on Carlton...Blues players playing for Saints last 50 years.
B. Rowe McConville Muller
HB Korkamelis Aitken Stocker
C Marcou Arceri Carroll
HF Nixon Hamel Sharp
FF Buckley Jezza Brown
R Wow Jones Dow Ken Sheldon

Apart from 3 names I had to research this is not too badder side of discards. Throw in SOS and TDK and it says more about the Blues than the Saints.

Losing Windy over money while paying a fortune for a chronically injured defender when we still have Aleer coming isn’t good business
When did we lose Windy? Sorry, overseas for work this week and next and hadn't heard we'd lost him......

Too slow and not a penetrating kick, although a tough competitor his best value is probably as a forward of some kind.

If Owens doesnt improve his kicking on goals, I can see him struggling to hold his place in the side moving forward as the other kids develop.

Forward line:

Higgins King Sharman
Ryan Caminiti Hall

If Marshall is not traded he plays the 4th tall forward/rucking role. Then RTB also like to rotate the developing mids through HF Phillipou, Wilson, Garcia then we still have Wood, Butler and Hill to fit in. Owens brings that great contest but if he is not contributing on the scoreboard he might be in trouble.

I agree with some others about Aleer - I dont see the point anymore.

I'm not sure he'd be best 22 with who we now have but it's not a contract that you hand out to a depth player which puts us in a bad spot. It also doesn't make much sense for him there are now more desperate for a KPD then us.
Only trouble is Jsos has an average record of getting on the park , maybe its been bad luck which i hope it was.
When he plays he is normally pretty good , when he doesn't play , not so good

I’m guessing you weren’t at the ‘97 Grand Final? After the siren their fans were feral pricks more keen on taunting us than celebrating their win screw them
Yes I was at the '97 GF. Was horrible. Funeral procession walking down Brunton Ave to Richmond station after the game. I was also at the infamous Crows camp with the leadership group. Tex is the only one of that group still playing. Would like to see them win it for him.

I agree we need to target a player who can play full back to replace Howard. It looks like Caminiti will be moved forward next year, so we will have a heap of 2nd-3rd defenders. We desparately need a 200cm key big bodied key defender who can handle the big power forwards. Jordan Butts from Adelaide is not getting a game might be a good pick up.

Perhaps we have some targetted in the draft?

I'm not either. Wouldn't mind to see them winning it of those left in the finals. Am hoping for Adelaide though. Have a soft spot for 'em. Certainly not the Cats, Dawks or franchise mobs.
Same. I'm not from Victoria, so didn't grow up with that ingrained anti-Collingwood position. Actually hated the Swans because they were forced down our throats as "our team" in Canberra.

I'll be leaning towards Freo/Suns, Pies or Crom.
